To: From: Qualified school coaches and athletic directors Pam Headridge, Tournament Manager Congratulations on your season! As you prepare for the state championship, please read carefully the information provided in this packet. We are looking forward to an outstanding event! 1.0 COMCAST ARENA at EVERETT 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett, WA COMCAST ARENA GENERAL REGULATIONS: For your comfort and safety, the following items are not allowed into the facility: Cans Bottles Glass Weapons Fireworks Coolers Food Beverages Helium Balloons Beach Balls Alcohol Backpacks Projectiles Illegal Substances Spikes Oversized Bags Laser Pointers Chains Animals (except ADA) Artificial Noisemakers Appropriate dress is required for all events held at Comcast Arena at Everett. Shirts and shoes are required at all times. Since Comcast Arena at Everett is a hockey facility, the temperature will be lower than in most gymnasiums, so please dress appropriately. Due to the expanded Clean Indoor Air Act (I-901) Comcast Arena at Everett is a smoke free facility. NO OUTSIDE FOOD MAY BE BROUGHT INTO COMCAST ARENA at EVERETT Participants may bring in a beverage for their own consumption through the pass gate only. All beverages must be contained in a plastic or unbreakable container, must be in the participants bags, and must remain at the team bench or locker room area. 3
4 1.2 Directions to Comcast Arena, Everett From the North Take I-5 South to Exit number US-2/Everett Avenue. Take the Everett Avenue ramp towards the City Center. Turn right onto Everett Avenue. Turn left onto Broadway Avenue. Turn right onto Wall Street (just past the center) to drop off participants. From the South Take I-5 North to exit number 192 Broadway exit. Continue going straight on Broadway and stay in the left hand lane. Turn left on Wall Street (just before the center) to drop off participants. From the East Merge onto US-2 West. Turn slight left to take the I-5 S ramp toward Seattle/ Everett/Hewitt Avenue. Take the ramp toward Hewitt Avenue/City Center. Turn slight right onto California Street. Turn left onto Broadway. Turn right onto Wall Street (just past the center) to drop off participants. 2.0 PARKING 2.1 Buses will stop and unload on Wall Street, then park for free at the Everett Train Station parking lot (on Pacific Avenue). 2.2 Spectator parking is on a first-come, first-served basis in the parking lots, parking garage, and street parking around the Comcast Arena at Everett. 3.0 FACILITY/PARTICIPANT ENTRANCE: Participants and coaches will enter the Comcast Arena on Wall Street (look for the sign "Participant Pass Gate"). 4.0 RE-ENTRY: Cheerleaders in uniform will be allowed re-entry at any time. Coaches will be issued wrist bands during the coaches meeting; the wrist bands must wear be worn appropriately for reentry into the facility. 5.0 LOCKER ROOMS 5.1 Four (4) locker rooms are available. 5.2 Please do not leave valuables in the locker rooms. Teams are responsible for any valuables brought into the facility. 6.0 ATHLETIC TRAINER: A certified athletic trainer will be on site at all times. Any school athletic trainer(s) must register with the meet athletic trainer. Please bring supplies for taping, etc. 7.0 COMPETITION FLOOR: Nine (9) cheer mats will be used for the competition floor. 8.0 WARM-UP/PRACTICE AREAS 8.1 Nine (9) cheer mats will be available for warm-up prior to the scheduled competition. 8.2 Teams will be scheduled for a minimum of ten (10) minutes on the warm-up floor. 8.3 Additional mat strips will be available for stretching in the hallway. 9.0 INTENT TO PARTICIPATE: All teams that achieve a minimum score of 195 during a regular season competition will qualify to compete in the state championships. If less than 50 teams qualify by minimum score, the next highest scoring teams will qualify in order for a total of 50 4
5 teams to participate. All qualified teams will be scheduled to compete in the state championships unless the WIAA office is notified otherwise TEAM REGISTRATION AND ROSTERS: The team registration form and team rosters must be entered on-line through the WIAA Web site at alki.wiaa.com/publications by January 18, COMPETITION RULES: NFHS Spirit rules will be strictly enforced in all categories PERFORMANCE RULES 12.1 Each team will compete in the category in which that team qualified A team may appeal to compete in a smaller category provided documentation is provided that the situation was beyond the control of the participants or team. The appeal form is available from WIAA and must be received at the WIAA office by noon on January 18, A team could increase the number of participants provided the team remained within the same category COACHES MEETING: Coaches meetings will be held at 2:30pm and also at 5:30pm EXHIBITION PERFORMANCES: Special teams will provide exhibition performances following the final regular team performance PARADE OF TEAMS: Each team may designate up to four participants to represent the team in the closing ceremonies. All team representatives will march around the competition floor following the final exhibition performance in the order of performance in each category. The main lights will be turned down and spotlights will be shined on each team as their representatives are introduced and march around the competition floor. Teams and spectators are encouraged to wear or carry glow-inthe-dark fluorescent paraphernalia TENTATIVE SCHEDULE: The practice and performance schedule will be based upon the number of teams that qualify in each category Teams will be drawn onto the schedule within each category The schedule will be posted on the WIAA Web site on January 18, Teams must be ready to enter the floor 10 minutes before their practice/performance time slot. 2:00pm 2:30pm 3:15pm 5:30pm 8:00pm 8:20pm 8:30pm Music check Coaches meeting green room First cheer performance Coaches makeup meeting green room Exhibition performances Parade of teams Awards presentation 17.0 SPECTATOR and PARTICIPANT SEATING: Spectators will enter through the north doors at the Hewitt Avenue main entrance Participants and spectators may not block or reserve seats The teams will face to the north to perform, with the north side of Comcast Arena designated for spectators The south side of Comcast Arena will be designated for participating teams The west side of Comcast Arena and the east concourse are open. 5
6 18.0 PICTURES: Team and action photos will be taken throughout the competition. Those photos will be available for viewing on the Northwest Sports Photography Web site at PROGRAMS: One program will be provided to each participating team. Programs will be on sale at the event FLOWERS: A flower vender will on site at the Comcast Arena at Everett. Additional information may be sent directly to the coaches for placing orders SOUVENIR MERCHANDISE: A variety of souvenir items will be available for sale throughout the event. An order form is also posted on the WIAA Web site for placing orders; go to click on athletics & activities; click on activities; click on cheer; click on merchandise order form SUITES AVAILABLE AT COMCAST ARENA: Comcast Arena has a limited number of suites available for reservation during the state cheerleading championships. The suites are available on a first come-first basis for cheerleaders, parents, or booster clubs. A suite would provide a private space for pre-event preparation. A list of concession offerings is included in this packet TICKET PRICES: $9 adults / $7 students / $7 seniors 25.0 LODGING: Go to the WIAA Web site at click on activities; click on cheer; click on the 2010 Motel and Restaurant Guide provided by the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau. 6
7 TO: FROM: RE: All Participating Teams and Coaches Integrated Rehab Clinic, Everett 2010 State Cheerleading Medical Services and Athletic Training Facilities On behalf of Integrated Rehab and the Sports Medicine Team, we would like to welcome you and your team to the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Cheerleading Championships. We will be glad to assist you in meeting your team s needs. The following facilities and services will be available to you: 1. Access to a taping and first aid area. You will need to provide your own tape and other supplies. 2. Ice. 3. Athletic Training Staff to assist your team and team trainer. 4. Emergency medical services are available at local hospitals in the vicinity. 5. Additional specialty health care services are available in the community. You are welcome to use the taping area or ask us to tape for you. If you have special needs please check with us in an appropriate time frame so that we may properly assist you. Please have your ATC and/or medical provider introduce him or herself to our medical team by visiting the Integrated Rehab area (next to the announcer in the south penalty box.) 7
