The 22nd-ranked Nebraska Wrestling team will open up the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, Nov. 27, when it hosts Bucknell and South Dakota State in double-header action. The Huskers welcome the Bison and Jackrabbits after opening their season at the Buckeye Duals in Columbus, Ohio, where they split a pair of matches between two nationally ranked opponents to start the season 1-1. Nebraska will face off against the Bison beginning at Noon, before taking on the Jackrabbits at 2 p.m. Free live video will be available on Huskers.com for both Husker matches, while live stats will be available for all three matches on the day at The Huskers opened the season by dropping a tough match to the No. 20 Pittsburgh Panthers, 22-10, before bouncing back to upset the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes, 24-11, for their first win of the season. Mike Koehnlein (141), Jordan Burroughs (165) and Josh Ihnen (184) all won both of their matches on the day, while Burroughs was most impresseive racking up two technical falls and winning both matches by a combined score of With the two wins last Saturday, Burroughs now needs only one more victory to become the school s 19th all-time wrestler to eclipse the 100 win mark in his career. Fans who attended the Nebraska vs. Colorado football game on Friday, Nov. 26, will also receive free admission to the dual on Saturday by showing their ticket stub to the ticket holder at the door. Saturday will also be Military Appreciation Day at the NU Coliseum. All active and retired military members will receive free admission to the duals by showing their military ID. Nebraska will also be honoring Livingston Lukow, a 197-pound wrestler for the Huskers, who is currently an active member in the US Marines and missed last season while serving his country in Afghanistan. (402) Website...Huskers.com Scouting the Bucknell Bison Bucknell s match against Nebraska will mark the first dual of the season for the Bison. Bucknell, a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association, is led by Kevin LeValley who is currently ranked at No. 5 at the 149-pound weight division according to InterMat. LeValley is coming off the school s first ever win at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Nov. 11. The senior defeated Edinboro s Torsten Gillespie who is the 12th-rated wrestler at the 149-pound weight class. The Bison last competed at the Navy Classic on Nov. 20, where they finished in second place and had 10 wrestlers place. Bucknell is coached Dan Wirnsberger, who is in his fourth season. Husker History vs. Bucknell Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools. Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits The Jackrabbits will travel to Lincoln having already wrestled in three matches this season where they recorded a 1-2 record. The Jacks opened the season with two consecutive losses to UW-Parkside and Northwestern, but bounced back in their last dual against UW-Whitewater, winning by the score of SDSU has already traveled to the state of Nebraska this year after participating in the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha. The Jackrabbits placed three wrestlers at the tournament, including two in the elite bracket. South Dakota State is part of the Western Wrestling Conference and is coached by Jason Liles, who is coaching in his 17th season for the Jacks. Husker History vs. South Dakota State The Jackrabbits and Huskers have a rich tradition together having faced 30 times in the two school s histories. The Huskers hold a slight edge over the Jackrabbits in the win column going over the Jacks. Last season, the Huskers defeated the SDSU, 46-6, on Dec , in Brookings, S.D. Host: Rider Nebraska Wrestling Fans Burroughs Looks to Capture 100th Career Win Senior Jordan Burroughs will look to become only the 19th wrestler is school historty to win 100 matches in his career after collecting career wins No. 98 and 99 last Saturday. Burroughs, who returned this season after going down with a knee injury last season, owns a career record of while ranking in the top 10 in school history in career winning percentage. Burroughs will become the third Husker wrestler in two seasons to surpass the 100 win mark after Craig Brester and Stephen Dwyer accomplished the feat last season. Last Time Out: Burroughs Leads Huskers to Split at Buckeye Duals Senior Jordan Burroughs had two technical falls and was one of three Huskers to win both matches on the day as the 16th-ranked Nebraska wrestling team opened the dual season Sunday, Nov. 21, by splitting contests with No. 11 Ohio State (24-11) and No. 20 Pittsburgh (10-22) at the Buckeye Duals in Columbus, Ohio. Wrestling in a Nebraska uniform for the first time since Dec. 19, 2009, Burroughs was back in full force following his season-ending knee injury. The Sicklerville, N.J. native led the Huskers to a comeback win over No. 11 Ohio State with his technical fall victory over Jared Kusar. Prior to Burroughs win, the Huskers had trailed 11-6 through five matches, gaining its two wins at 141 and 149 pounds from senior Mike Koehnlein (7-6 decision over Collin Palmer) and sophomore Ross Grande (7-6 decision over Sean Nemec). Burroughs win tied the dual at and began a string of five straight NU victories to close a victory. Following Burroughs technical fall, redshirt freshman Caleb Kolb (174) earned his first varsity win with a 13-5 major decision over Robel Campbell to put NU ahead in the team race. Sophomore Josh Ihnen (184) turned in the third straight Husker win with an 11-4 decision over Peter Capone, while senior Andy Johnson (184) upset No. 14 Cody Magrum (7-4 decision) and junior Tucker Lane (Hwt) downed Jonathan Hiles (4-1 decision) to put the Buckeyes away. Earlier in the day, Nebraska was defeated by No. 22 Pittsburgh, After falling behind 13-3, Burroughs dominated Adam Counterman with a technical fall victory (7:00, 25-0) to make it 13-7, but the Huskers only picked up one more win the rest of the way, a 7-5 decision from Ihnen over Max Thomusseit. Nebraska s other victory came from Koehnlein, as he downed Mike Tully by a 2-1 decision. Huskers Announce Talented Signing Class Head Coach Mark Manning and the Husker wrestling program have announced the signings of four high school seniors who plan to enroll and compete at Nebraska beginning with the season. Three of the four signees are ranked in the InterMat Top 25, while the other is a two-time Nebraska Class C state champion. 4 Head Coach Mark Manning With 100 years of history, Nebraska wrestling is one of the most storied programs in the collegiate wrestling ranks. Head Coach Mark Manning has taken the Huskers to new heights in his tenure and has established himself as one of the top wrestling coaches in the nation. The NU record book is a testament to Manning s accomplishments in Lincoln. In his 10 years at the helm, he has coached 33 of Nebraska s 88 All-Americans. He has led the Huskers to five top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships, compared to just eight for the 14 NU coaches before him. He is the winningest coach in Husker history with a dual-winning percentage of.704 and a record of at NU. He won back-to-back Big 12 Coachof-the-Year awards (2008 and 2009) after guiding Nebraska to a share of the conference crown in 2009 and a runner-up finish in NU went on to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships both seasons with nine Huskers earning All-America honors and Jordan Burroughs capturing the 157-pound national title with a perfect 35-0 record. In addition to their success on the mat, Husker wrestlers under Manning have earned 35 academic All-Big 12 selections (3 1/2 awards per year), including current student-athletes Tucker Lane and Josh Ihnen. The pair, in addition to 2010 seniors Craig Brester and Stephen Dwyer, were all named to the 2010 NWCA All-Academic Team, as Nebraska turned in the third highest team grade-point average (3.2824). Manning s beliefs and values in developing studentathletes is evident right outside his office, where former Husker All-Americans Bryan Snyder, Jason Powell, Craig Brester and Brandon Browne are members of the NU coaching staff. During their time under Manning, Snyder and Brester were each named the Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year. (Hastings St. Cecilia) - 157/165 Austin Wilson will enter his senior season at Hastings St. Cecilia looking to break the all-time career victories record in Nebraska state high school history. Wilson owns a career record and would need 39 victories to break the record of 172. As a sophomore, Wilson finished the season with a perfect 47-0 record while only giving up one takedown and one reversal all season en route to the Class C state title at 130 pounds. In his junior season, the Hastings native was just as impressive, going 48-0 and only being scored on one time. Wilson s 48 victories as a junior broke an All-Class record for wins a season. Wilson is nationally-ranked as the No. 15 wrestler in his weight division according to WIN magazine. Wilson is set to wrestle at either the 157 or 165 pounds. Jake Sueflohn, Hartland, Wis., (Arrowhead) - 141/149 Jake Sueflohn has established himself as one of the best high school wrestlers in the country after winning the 2010 Wisconsin Division I state championship at 135 pounds. Sueflohn, a Harland, Wis. Native, is ranked as the No. 4 wrestler in the nation at the 140-pound weight division and is the No. 23 ranked recruit overall according to InterMat. As a freshman, Sueflohn finished third at the state championships at 119, while recording a 50-4 record. His sophomore season saw him finish in the runner-up spot at the 125-pound weight division going Sueflohn owns a career record. Sueflhon is slated to wrestle at either 141 or 149 pounds. Donny Longendyke, White Bear Lake, Minn. (White Bear Lake) - HWT Donny Longendyke will enter his senior season as one of the most dominate heavyweights in the country after going 47-0 as a junior, while recording 39 pins en route to the Minnesota Class AAA state championship. In his sophomore season, Longendyke recorded a 39-2 mark and a second place finish at the state championships. Longendyke was the No. 2 rated heavyweight recruit in the country according to InterMat, and the No. 25 overall prospect in the country. This summer, Longendyke was most impressive at the USA Wrestling National Championships in Fargo, N.D., where he placed in all five events he entered and earned a spot in the finals twice. Longendyke will wrestle at the Heavyweight spot for the Huskers. James Green, Willingboro, N.J. (Willingboro) James Green will join the Husker wrestling program after accumulating over 100 victories in his first three seasons at Willingboro (N.J.) High. As a junior, Green finished his junior season with a 35-2 record and a second place finish at the state championships. Green is considered one of the top recruits in the country and is ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect by InterMat. The Willingboro, N.J. native is the 2nd-ranked wrestler at the 145-pound weight division by WIN magazine and checks in as the 4th-ranked wrestler in Intermat s individual rankings. Matt Dwyer-1 Huskers Gear Up for Regular Season with Wrestle-Offs The Nebraska wrestling team kicked off the season at the annual Red-White Wrestle-Offs on Friday, Nov. 5, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers welcomed over 200 wrestling coaches from the region, as the Wrestle-Offs were held in conjunction with the 2010 Fall Coaches Clinic. The Wrestle-Offs marked the return of senior Jordan Burroughs, who missed the majority of last season with a knee injury. The Sicklerville, N.J. native was dominant in his return going 2-0, while recording a fall (2:56) in his first match against Jerad Gubbels. In his second match, Burroughs defeated freshman Robert Kokesh by a 10-4 decision to finish his night. Burroughs, now a 165-pounder, is the school s only undefeated national champion after finishing the season with a 35-0 record. Mike Koehnlein, a 141-pound senior, also won both of his matches on the night defeating Blake Meeks, 4-0, after he opened the night with a 11-2 major decision victory over freshman Chad Stroh. Koehnlein is one of the Huskers four returning national qualifiers after making the NCAA Tournament a season ago. True freshman Cody Magrew was impressive in his Nebraska debut, taking down redshirt freshman Mike Klinginsmith twice on the night. In their second match of the night, the 157-pound Magrew was able to escape with a 5-3 overtime win to collect his second win. Four-Time All-American Snyder Returns as Assistant Coach The Nebraska wrestling team announced this offseason the return and addition of one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history, as Bryan Snyder was named an assistant coach for the Huskers Over the summer, The only four-time All-American and four-time conference champion in school history, Snyder comes back to the Husker wrestling program in its 100th anniversary season. The Easton, Pa., native spent last year as the head assistant coach at Arizona State and helped guide five Sun Devils to the 2010 NCAA Championships in Omaha. Snyder began his coaching experience as an assistant at Harvard in , while returning to the Husker wrestling program as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons ( and ), as NU went in duals and finished fifth at the 2004 NCAA Championships. As a wrestler, Snyder ranks No. 1 on Nebraska s all-time winning percentage chart (.925), compiling a record from He claimed All-America accolades and a Big 12 championship all four years, while finishing as the NCAA runner-up at 157 pounds in 2001 and He amassed over 30 wins per season three times, including his 43-3 record as a sophomore that stands as the second-best single-season mark in school history. A four-time NWCA All-Academic selection, Snyder was named the 2002 Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year and graduated with a double major in Sociology and Communication Studies. Brester, Brown Joing NU Coaching Staff Two recent NU All-Americans will add further experience and knowledge to the Husker wrestling coaching staff as Nebraska announced the additions of volunteer assistant Brandon Browne and administrative assistant Craig Brester. Along with coach Bryan Snyder, the three new hires combined to win 87 percent of their matches and earn eight All-America honors during their Husker careers. Browne will be in his second year with the Huskers after serving as the team s club coach last year. A native of Plattsmouth, Neb., Browne won back-to-back Big 12 championships at 174 pounds in 2008 and Brester will be the most recent face on the NU staff and serve the role of administrative assistant. The Howells, Neb., native finished his career this past March with his second-straight NCAA runner-up finish at 197 pounds.
