Tr yout Infor mation Tryout Practice June 21st, Shady Lane Gym Tryout Practice June 22nd, Shady Lane Gym Final Tryouts June 23rd from 9:00am - 12:0 0 Shady Lane Gym What to Expect: You will learn two routines, one made up of pom choreography and one made up of jazz choreography. Candidates will try out in groups of two and will be evaluated by a panel of judges which does not include the middle school dance coaches. You will be scored on the routines as well as the following skills: toe touch, left/right/side leaps, right/left splits, double/triple turns, kickline sequence and will have the option to show judges a bonus skill. We ask that you please do not pick up your dancer early, results will be announced individually after tryouts commence, and all alternative video tryout participants will be called that evening as well. If your dancer is unable to attend the tryout practices and final tryout date we ask that you attend the alternative video tryout on June 14th. The video will be reviewed by the judges panel during tryouts. (please contact the coaches for a alternative video tryout sheet for more information) What to Br ing: Participation cards (must have by first tryout practice to be eligible to participate), Consent Form, Tryout Questionnaire, a water bottle, and dance shoes/tennis shoes What to Wear to Tr youts: A pair of black, fitted dance pants or capris are preferred. Shorts are allowed but may not be too long or too short and must wear tights under their shorts. A plain black t- shirt or tank top that follows NMS dress code that is either tucked in or fitted. Hair should be pulled back out of face,

2 preferably in a bun. Tennis shoes or dance shoes are acceptable. No jewelry is allowed and it is recommended that dancers wear a bit of makeup and lipstick to give them a performance ready look. Eligibility: Tryouts are open to any student that will be attending North Middle School in the school year. No student is allowed to have a failing grade in more than one class. Judging Cr iter ia: The following criteria will be evaluated at the final tryout: 1. Sharpness/ correct placement of movements/ clean movements 2. Kickline- good posture, flexibility, pointed toes 3. Dance technique- proper placement of feet and arms for all skills 4. Overall presentation and memory- knowledge of routine and good stage presence including confidence and enthusiasm. Also, proper dress will be evaluated. 5. Showmanship- eye contact with judges and big, natural smile. 6. Attitude throughout the tryout process are you staying positive, being respectful to other dancers and coaches. Nor th Middle School Season at a Glance: We will begin our season with a mandatory parent/dancer meeting on June 25th, 2018 from 6:30-7:30pm location to be determined. We request that at least one parent/guardian is present with their dancer for this meeting as we will discuss the season and financial obligations in detail. Please bring a pen, notebook and your checkbook. Our first team practice will be held on June 25, 2017 from 5:00pm - 6:30pm, location to be determined, and the season will run through the end of January Practice days will be on Monday/Wednesday from 5:00pm- 7:30pm During the school year with Thursday technique practices during the summer months.we will also have Friday practice on competition weeks along with one Saturday/Sunday morning practice a month. We will perform at home boys & girls basketball games, which are primarily scheduled on Thursdays from 3:00-5:30pm. However there are occasional Monday/Wednesday game. We compete in 5 Saturday dance competitions: Trojan Wauwatosa West - November 10th, 2018 Watertown Spirit Watertown High School - December 8, 2018 Oshkosh West Wildcat Oshkosh High School - January 5th, 2019 Falls MFHS - January 12, 2018 JAM State DC Everest High School - January 19, 2018 Financial Obligations: There are several costs associated with being a member of the North Middle School Dance team. Because we are self- funded we will require an upfront payment for each dancer as well as team fundraising goals or options to payout your fundraising amount. The upfront cost will be approximately $ per dancer. These funds are used for costumes, poms, competitions, busing and various other expenses. We will provide further detail on the exact upfront cost payment once we have established our

3 team. There will be an additional out of pocket cost for team apparel (warm up jacket, t- shirt & tank top), jazz shoes, and tan tights. No member will be turned away due to financial constraints. Individual payment plans can be set up with the Coaches. $130 Athletic Fee Due no later than June 21st (medical card MUST be turned in at tryouts) $125- $175 (approx.) Warm- up Jackets & required team apparel (t- shirt, tank top, tights, jazz shoes) These are out- of- pocket expense that are ordered online or in store by you - we will provide details on what to purchase $250 - $375 (approx.) Costumes, poms, competition fees, busing & various other expenses $175 + B. Inspired Summer Dance Country Springs Resort and Hotel B. Inspired Dance Studio will be hosting a summer overnight dance camp at the Country Springs Resort and Hotel on August 8th & 9th. This camp is not mandatory but we do highly encourage NMS dancers to attend if possible. They will learn choreography in styles of Jazz, Pom, Hip- Hop, and Kick. As well as skills & technique and lunch will be included. Please note that additional expenses may arise during the season such as team bonding events, competition fees (solos/small groups etc.), makeup/hair products etc. Please direct any questions or concerns you may have prior to tryouts to Miss Megan and Miss Elise at dance.nms@gmail.com.
