1 Crestview High School Band The Big Red Machine Here s your chance to be part of the Big Red Machine Color Guard!! The nationally recognized, award winning Crestview High School Color Guard announces auditions for the school year! Auditions are May 18-22, 2015, from 3:00-5:30pm in the auditorium at Crestview High School. The Crestview High School band holds open auditions for membership in the color guard each spring. Typically, nearly 100 upcoming middle school students and current high school students volunteer for these auditions. They are assembled on the first day of the audition clinic for an explanation of the selection process. They are taught fundamental skills in flag manipulation, movement and dance. At the conclusion of the clinic, they are evaluated by the band directors using expert analysis of their ability to successfully perform those fundamentals. The students are compared to a standard of expectation of achievement using professional knowledge while employing the philosophy of looking for potential, not perfection. As with most other auditions, not all who audition will be selected. If you are not selected, we may still have a place for you in the Big Red Machine. Everyone who wants to be in the band and meets the requirements for grades, attendance and discipline and agrees to abide by our rules and requirements will be accepted, but not necessarily as a performer.

2 Big Red Machine Color Guard General Information: Members of the color guard must maintain a 2.0 GPA All debt from previous membership in any sport or activity must be paid in full before becoming a member of the color guard. Time requirements will include the following and more: o The Big Red Machine rehearses several times during the summer months at various times. (A schedule will be provided to all members at the orientation meeting on June 2 nd, 2015.) o Regular rehearsals during the fall are Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00-8:30pm. o Several Saturdays in the Fall are also required for Festivals, Contests and rehearsals. o Attendance and participation at ALL rehearsals and performances are required to receive a passing grade and to maintain membership. o All members must be enrolled in a class for the entire school year. Cost for membership will include the following: o Band Fee $ o Uniform Construction / Rental $ Uniforms will be returned at the end of the season. A $75 non-refundable deposit is due by June 2 nd. o Equipment / Instructor Fee $ o Warm-up suit $ o Shoes $40.00 o Travel Uniform Shorts variable o Travel Uniform Shoes variable All prospective members discipline, attendance and academic records will be evaluated as part of the audition process. A history of excessive absences (5 or more per 9 weeks) and any disciplinary referral that results in suspension from school may adversely affect chances of being selected. A summer rehearsal schedule can be found at the end of this packet. Band Camp is July 27 - August 7, o Attendance at band camp is MANDATORY!!!
