1 DANCE THE DIVIDE 2018 August 6-10 brought to you by the Creative Arts Center & Cohesion Dance Project...bringing professional dance artists to Helena since 1987 GUEST FACULTY Ballet Technique & Pointe Stephanie Powell is a California native and a tenured Professor of Dance at Long Beach City College. She has taught courses in academia for over 15 years and specializes in Dance History, Classical Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Turns, Zumba, Dance Conditioning, Stretch and Relaxation, Pilates and Yoga. Powell is a certified instructor of the New York City Ballet Workout, Zumba, Qignition and BASI Pilates. She is the principal interpreter of the choreographic works of the legendary Donald McKayle, and stages his work around the world. Powell earned her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance with distinction from UC Irvine as a Chancellor s Fellow and she has danced professionally with the Oakland Ballet, San Francisco Opera, Donald Byrd the Group, Contemporary West Dance Theatre, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Powell has performed in Lion King and has appeared on television in the Grammy s, on Tyra Bank's FabLife, the Jay Leno Show and for artists such as Janet Jackson and Beyonce. Professor Powell continues to dance as a performing artist throughout the US, Australia, Europe and Asia. Jazz Bradford Chin, born and raised in San Francisco, is an emerging Los Angeles-based choreographer, educator, and performer. The Founder and Artistic Director of Bradford Chin & Dancers, he has been a guest choreographer at Keshet Dance & Center for the Arts and has presented work at CSU Long Beach, the American Dance Festival, Highways Performance Space, the Torrance Art Museum, the Southern California Dance & Choreography Festival, dancexchange, ArtX Long Beach, and George Washington High School. Chin is also the Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of start, an annual Downtown Long Beach showcase of works by emerging artists in dance and music. He is a founding member of The Band and has danced with Laurel Jenkins, C. Eule Dance, Contempo Ballet, Coast City Ballet, and DAGDAG Dance, and he has performed works by choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Beth Gill, William Forsythe, Rebecca Bryant, Andrew Vaca, Kim T. Davis, and John Beasant III. He is currently on faculty at Pacific Dance and The Dance Factory. Modern Nicole Bradley Browning is a dance artist and educator and she heads the Dance Program at the University of Montana. She has performed and taught throughout the US and in Taiwan. She is interested in making dances reflective of the human experience, relationships and intimate contact between people and place, and finds great inspiration in building collaborative engagements between dance and other disciplines. Nicole specializes in contemporary modern dance, improvisation and composition. At the University of Montana, she also offers a course in World Dance studies. Following the completion of her MFA at Arizona State University, Nicole held faculty positions at Bucknell University (PA) and Dance Place (DC). She has also taught for the National Dance Association of the Republic of China, Taiwan as well as for the Global Dance Summit hosted at Taipei National University of the Arts. Her co-authored article, Taiwan s Female Choreographers: A Generation in Transition was published in the 2012 book, Identity and Diversity: Celebrating Dance in Taiwan. Nicole has served as a member of the board of the American College Dance Festival Association and has been a recipient of grants from Dance USA and the NEA

2 Faith Morrison was born in the tundra of Alaska and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. She completed her MFA in Dance at the University of Oregon in 2015, and received her BA in Dance and Mathematics from the University of Montana in Faith received Graduate Teaching Fellowships from in the Dance Department at the University of Oregon where she taught Modern, Ballet, Jazz, and Contact Improvisation. She has been a guest artist in the Dance Department at Oberlin College, The University of Idaho, and Pacific Lutheran University. Her choreographic work Within Limit, commissioned through a guest artist residency at the University of Idaho, was highlighted at the 2018 ACDA Southern Division Conference last spring. While living in Montana, Faith danced with Headwaters Dance Company and Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre Company. For the past two years she has been a company member and instructor with Polaris Dance Theatre in Portland, OR. Improvisation/Composition Julynn Wilderson holds a BA in Anthropology and Dance from Bard College at Simon's Rock and currently teaches and works for Cohesion Dance Project. Her early and pre-professional training incorporated a diversity of movement disciplines including Feldenkrais method, Bartenieff Fundamentals, modern, RAD ballet, and creative movement. Further training through Simon s Rock and Columbia College Chicago introduced her to contact improvisation, butoh, and interdisciplinary media. She has collaborated as a choreographer, dancer, and media consultant on work presented at theaters, galleries, and studios. In her free time, she loves to spend time outdoors, see new places, play music, and make art. Amber Moon Peterson started her dance career with Keshet Dance Company in her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Keshet's Pre-Professional program in 2007, with her focus primarily in Modern and Ballet and was a repertory dancer there until She went on to study dance at the University of New Mexico. She then lived in the Long Beach and Los Angeles area from where she studied under Stephanie Powell and danced with Datugan Dance Theater in She performed in dance festivals across Southern California including Mixmatch Dance Festival, San Diego Dance Festival, and the Kennith Walker Dance Project. Since 2013 she has been involved with Cohesion Dance Project acting as Rehearsal Director for Nutcracker on the Rocks. She is delighted to now call Helena home, and works with Cohesion Dance Project creating and teaching dance, as well as working as a licensed Massage Therapist. She is passionate about dance as an art form, and the arts in general and enjoys educating dancers as well as continuing her own growth and learning as an active dancer. Tap Lexi Hughes holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theater from the University of Hawai i at Mānoa graduating Summa Cum Laude. Upon graduation she received the Carl Wolz Award for Excellence in Choreography. During this time, she was also an exchange student at the London Contemporary Dance School studying Ballet, Cunningham, Release, and GAGA (Naharin movement language) techniques. There she was featured in the dance film Shadower premiering at London South Bank University, London Contemporary Dance School, and Screentest: The UK s National Student Film Festival. Lexi began her teaching career in high school and has continued to work with students of all ages and skillsets ever since. Most recently, Lexi has been an instructor and choreographer at AMA Academy of Performing Arts in the Chicago area. One of her favorite styles to teach is tap, passing down the knowledge from her instructors Linda Fuller, Marcia Swenson, and Jennifer Intravartolo. Aside from dance, Lexi s heart resides in working with animals. In her spare time she can be found practicing hot yoga. Ballet I & Jazz I Nina Murphy is heading into her third year as a dance performance major at the University of Wyoming in the fall. She spent 8 years dancing at the Creative Arts Center and was a member of Premiere Dance Company for 5 years. She has spent the last two summers as a counselor at the Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival, working with members of the Limon Dance Company and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. She had the great fortune of spending her spring semester in London on a study abroad program. Last year, Nina had the opportunity of teaching at Dance The Divide and is excited to be teaching again this year. Musical Theater TBD
