1 From the Helm Wow, where did the season go! Well it's been a great year with so many good things happening. We had a great Boat Parade, New Year's Eve Party, OUT- STANDING CLAMBAKE, KCB Days, Little Palm Island and our very enjoyable end of season appreciation Dinner Dance. THANK YOU SO MUCH to all that made it all HAPPEN!!! Our April 7 meeting will be starting at City Hall 4:45pm where we will be dedicating our Memorial Bench that will have the names of the 7 members that have passed in the last year. At 5pm we will have Sue Redding giving a seminar on flares. There will be a 12-minute DVD on distress flare training from Orion. Bring your old flares as Sue will collect them and will bring a metal trash can required for their disposal. She will also bring inert flares and a flare gun to demonstrate how to use them. There will also be a display of distress signals. Relay for Life collection from the last meeting brought in a whopping $1,092! OUTSTAND- ING. This terrible disease affects all our families and friends. Congrats to Gail Cortelyou! Executive Board voted her as Member of the Year. Thank you for all your hard work with the newsletter and all the professional pictures you take for the Club. Maybe she can add a picture of her and the Plaque in the Newsletter. 2 We are starting to brainstorm for next year s Clam Bake t-shirts. If you have any copyright-free photos of your boat, sailfish/ marlin jumping, closeups of fish, and photos of Sombrero light or 7 mile bridge we might use them. Commodore Tom Alferes then stated that the purpose of the Club is to promote fishing, boating and good fellowship among all members. The minutes of the February 3rd meeting were accepted on a motion by Ralph Girkins which was seconded by Rene Warn and passed by the members. Tom recognized the Club s past commodores and welcomed all new members. The Clambake was a great success. Thanks to everyone who volunteered for making it a wonderful day and a great fund raiser for the Club. The Silent Auction raised $2,747, the Wheel Barrow of Cheer raised $1,750 and the 50/50 raffle made a profit of $1,220. Thanks to Ralph Girkins for overseeing the Silent Auction this year as well as all of the members who donated items. We sold $250 worth of tee shirts that day. We will be collecting donations for the Relay for Life tonight that will benefit the American Cancer Society. Please be generous. Spokesperson provided the group with some statistics on the incidence of cancer. A special thanks to Centennial Bank who continues to be a great sponsor of numerous Club activities throughout the season. Melissa Grady addressed the Club and asked for volunteers for the Seafood Festival. Tonight s dinner is provided by the Worley s. Thanks to them and all those who help with the set up and serving. I would also like to thank Joey and Karen Raspe for bartending; Kitty and Ron Sutton for handling the sale of the 50/50 tickets; Barbara and Dennis Driscoll for handling the check in process; and all the people who help make our meeting a fun event. Thanks also to the Shaffer brothers and Bill Fahs. You can purchase tickets to the end of season dinner dance at the side table. Please see Florence or Joe for your tickets. The cost is $45. Tom Tucker held his concealed weapons class and donated $1,000 of the proceeds to the Club. Thank you Tom. Vice Commodore Bob Warn reminded everyone that the Little Palm Island Brunch will take place on March 11th. There will be a 10:30 and an 11:30 launch out to the island. Framed commemorative plaques with the Club s signature flag were presented by Tom to Bob Warn and Chick Lees in appreciation of their years of service to the Club. Treasurer Chick Lees read the February Treasurer s Report. The Treasurer s report was duly accepted on a motion by Rene Warn which was seconded by Joe Schmidt and passed by the members. Membership Chairpersons Ron and Tania Teke informed everyone that they are keeping track of those members who volunteer. Remember that every member has an obligation to volunteer for some event. Director at Large Chet Polk reminded everyone that we need more volunteers at KCB Day to sell tickets for the Wheel Barrow of Cheer. Help is also needed for the Barracuda Races. Tournament Director John Fruhmorgen presented the prize money to the winning anglers. Pat Stewart is currently in the lead for Angler of the Year. In light of the departure of Chick Lees and Bob Warn, two positions on the Executive Board became vacant. The candidates who stepped forward to assume these positions and responsibilities are Rick Buy for Treasurer and Joe Schmidt as Vice Commodore. By a show of hands at the meeting both candidates were duly elected to their respective positions. The meeting then adjourned.
