2 Page 2 PTA NEWS VOLUNTEERING There are hundreds of ways to volunteer at McMeans, and PTA heads up organizing all of those volunteer needs. There may be a specific task or talent you are interested in, or you may want to know about all opportunities as they arise and decide at the time. Either way, please consider filling out our VOLUNTEER FORM to be on the contact lists for any needs to come! MEMBERSHIP Thank you to Officer Beard (our KISD security officer on campus!) for being our FIRST Community member of PTA! Our chapter has one of the lowest dues in Katy Council of PTAs, so please consider joining. Doing so does not sign you up for volunteering. Rather, it allows you to be a part of our organization's program and fundraising decisions as well as an additional count in our representation to our State legislature. Form, Benefits, etc. can be found here! DIRECTORY This year, PTA will be providing an online directory with parent and student information obtained from information YOU enter. To be included in the Directory, please click on this link to add your family, then join PTA to be granted access. Deadline to submit information and be included in the directory is September 30, The directory will not be printed. A code to access the online directly will be provided to paid PTA members after the directory information is collected. This is NOT A DIRECTORY OF ALL STUDENTS. 3 Page 3 PTA FUNDRAISING PTA membership approves several fundraising events for the school year so that we can continue to sponsor many programs and services for our students and staff. This year's first opportunity to support these efforts is... the McMeans PTA Parking Spot Auction! As in past years, we are auctioning one FRONT ROW reserved parking space in the SIDE LOT (Gym & Cafeteria entrance) to the highest bidder! The spot will be available to the winner 24/7 starting September 1st, through the duration of the school year. It is perfect for teachers, volunteers, athletics parents, etc.! The auction is hosted online by 32auctions.com and goes live at 7pm CST on 8/20/18, and will run through 8pm CST on 8/31/18. This is an opportunity you won't want to miss!! PTA will host the first Spirit Night of the year from 11am - 8:30pm at Fajita Pete's (1590 South Mason Road, Katy, TX 77450). 4 Page 4 McMeans Junior High Pep Squad What is Pep Squad? Pep Squad is a great way to show your team spirit and attend the McMeans Football Games. Pep Squad members wear their uniforms, sit together and a have a special cheer for pep rallies. Each participant will be required to purchase a Pep Squad t-shirt, bow and pom-poms to be worn to each activity. Navy and gold are our colors. Parent volunteers during the football games are appreciated. s will be sent asking for sign-ups. Girls may not leave the seats for their safety. Our cheer time will be one hour. In the event of rain, it is often very close to game time before we know if games are to be cancelled. **You must be on the Pep Squad and attend 6 events to try out for Cheerleader.** We will have the following activities throughout the semester: One parent meeting and a parent/guardian must be present: August 28, 4:30-5:30 PM in the MMJH cafeteria Football cheer/pep rally practice 5 Football games (each game will last one hour) Cheer clinic/practice 1 Basketball Game All activities will be ed out and posted on the website.
