2 TEAM NOMINATING INSTRUCTIONS Team Nominations for Induction into the Bowie State University Sports Hall of Fame (BSU Sports Hall of Fame) can be submitted by current and/or former Bowie State students, administrators, faculty, coaches, friends and family members. All Team Nominations for Induction consideration must be on the Official Team Nomination Application Form (also known as the Team Nomination Form) included as part of the Application Form Package. If additional forms are needed, please make copies of the form. Complete the Team Nomination Application Form in its entirety. Consideration will only be given to Team Nominations with a properly completed Team Nomination Form, NO EXCEPTIONS. Also, complete the Team Nomination Form by printing or typing in the necessary information. The BSU Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee can provide you with hard copy or an electronic soft copy. If additional space is needed to complete a section on the Team Nomination Form, please type or print the information on a separate page, noting the appropriate area and/or question(s). Limit each Team Nomination to one category per Official Team Nomination Application Form. You may submit a separate Team Nomination Form for each Team Nomination. The Selection Committee will make its recommendation based on the information provided on the Nomination Form. Resumes, biographical sketches, and other materials can be submitted as supporting documentation, but will not be considered as an Official" Nomination Application Form. All Nominations Forms must be signed and dated by the person or persons making the Nomination. Nomination Forms must be received by the Bowie State University Sports Hall of Fame's Selection Committee by November 30th. The Nomination Forms may be Postal Mailed to: BSU Sports Hall of Fame P.O. Box 789 Bowie, Maryland The BSU Sports Hall of Fame reserves the right to reclassify any and all Applications for Nominations for the Sports Hall of Fame into its appropriate categories for consideration. 3 NOMINATION CRITERIA Criteria for TEAM Nomination into the BSU Sports Hall of Fame Occasionally, entire sports teams will be inducted into the Bowie State University Sports Hall of Fame. This induction will include all members of the team, including the coaches, trainers, team managers, cheerleaders and others associated with the team. 1. The team being inducted should have won a Championship (Conference, National or Regional) and/or won at least seventy-five (75) percent of their games and/or entered into a Conference, National or Regional Championship playoff system. 2. Prior to a Team's specific Conference participation, a Legacy team may be inducted into the BSU Sports Hall of Fame, if the team won seventy-five (75) percent of their games for that season. 3. There is a five (5) year waiting period, after said team's participation, for that team to enter the BSU Sports Hall of Fame. Unsuccessful team nominations will be placed on the ballot for a period of two (2) additional years, after their original nomination date. If they are not inducted into the BSU Sports Hall of Fame during this period, their team will be taken off the ballot. Once removed, a team nomination must wait a period of two (2) years before they can be re-nominated. 3
4 TEAM RECOGNITION NOMINATION CRITERIA Criteria for CHEERLEADING TEAMS Nomination for Recognition by of Sports Hall of Fame Bowie State's Cheerleader Teams are eligible to be recognized by the Bowie State University Sports Hall of Fame for their dedication and sprit. They are eligible for the nomination of the Dedicated Service Award. This award is also referred to as the James "Barney" Waters Dedicated Service Award as of July The Cheer Team being recognized by the BSU Sports Hall of Fame may have participated at a Cheerleader's competition and/or in Local, Regional, or National Cheerleaders competitions. 2. The Cheer Team that cheered during a Championship season for a major Bowie State sanctioned varsity level Team Sport will automatically be inducted into the BSU Sports Hall of Fame as part of that Championship Team and/or the Team which entered into a Conference, Regional, or National Championship playoff system. 3. Prior to a Bowie State Cheerleader Team's specific Conference participation, a Legacy Cheerleading Team may be eligible to receive the James "Barney" Waters Dedicated Service Award presented by the BSU Sports Hall of Fame, if the team for which they were cheering, won seventy-five (75) percent of their games. 4. There is a five (5) year waiting period, after said team's participation, for that team to enter the BSU Sports Hall of Fame. Unsuccessful Cheerleader team nominations will be placed on the ballot for a period of two (2) additional years, after their original nomination date. If they are not recognized by the BSU Sports Hall of Fame during this period, their team will be taken off the ballot. 6 SELECTION CATEGORIES This page outlines the categories for a team's selections into the Bowie State University Sports Hall of Fame. The BSU Sports Hall of Fame recognizes two (2) types of Inductions into its Sports Hall of Fame. These categories are: Legacy and Legend. All Teams that are recognized by or Inducted into the BSU Sports Hall of Fame are considered to be Honorary Members of the Sports Hall of Fame. DEFINITIONS Legacy Teams are defined as teams who participated in Bowie State's officially recognized and sanctioned varsity level sports programs before Bowie State's entry into the CIAA or other named Conference. Legend Teams are defined as teams who participated in Bowie State's officially recognized and sanctioned varsity level sports programs after Bowie State's entry into the CIAA or other named Conference. This Team category allows for statistical data to verify the on-field accomplishments of that Team. 6
