10 Battery Recycling, A Must Read Attention parents and kids, Do y all have any dead batteries laying around the house, in a drawer, or still in the device? If you do, PLEASE DO NOT throw them away because we (two seniors at DSHS) need them for our AP Environmental Science project; our motive, to make a difference in saving the environment. What batteries can be recycled? Pretty much any type of battery can be recycled such as, common cell (AAA thru D), 9 volt, button, car/vehicle, phone, camera, laptop, watch, rechargeable, and power tool batteries. Why Recycle? Batteries contain heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and nickel, which contaminate landfills and water areas when improperly disposed of. If incinerated, metals may be released into the air and can also concentrate in the ash as a result of the combustion process. Helps produce new batteries for a cheaper cost, with less negatives on the environment. When? Please turn the batteries in by Friday, December 8th and at the latest Monday morning, December 11th to the front office at your school.
