We had record breaking rainfall and our comings and going were challenged. Hurricane Florence in September took a toll on our fellow shaggers in the Carolinas. Roads were closed with flooding and we were all urged to stay in place. SOS had to be cancelled. Oh my! The storm caused a lot of rain in our area and some flooding, but we were fortunate. The Fun Monday ticket drawings were delayed but should be soon. They will let us know. Lori had been ill for some time and her husband Dennis took good care of her during her illness. We all will miss Lori and her smile. She was a special lady! Also, something special is that our friend Wes Kirchner RE- TIRED! Please see page 3 where we pay tribute to him. Ok, as I write this, we are looking forward to our Halloween party on 10/24 with costumes and games. On Halloween night we will go to Shannons to hear the band! Then shortly after Halloween, we will have our 13th Annual Cannon Ball Blast. This will be a fun party at lakeside of the Lake of the Woods. We are excited about this special venue. Hope we get good reviews. Our regular dance nights have been at the Moose Lodge. They have been good to us and things are working out for us. Our club is in good shape with an initiative to increase our membership. For alternate Wednesdays, we are going to promote a dance night out first at Shannons to their scheduled band. This should be fun. Our Christmas party at the Moose will be on 12/12. Please plan to come. Our elections will be coming up in Nov., so please think about serving as a club officer on a committee. There is so many opportunities. We will have 2019 SOS cards available soon. Look forward to going to SOS Mid-Winter in January since we missed the Fall SOS. A bunch of us went to see the Rondels and the Embers. What fun with friends! Please read the articles in this newsletter about this and the Junior workshop we attended. -So, stay tuned, embrace your strengths and when you can, dance! Let the good times roll!

3 One of our original BBC members and a local Mullen s Garage legend and owner Wes Kirchner has RE- TIRED! Wes had a prosperous career in serving the Fredericksburg community. Everyone knows Mullen s Garage where they can get quality work with fair and friendly service. Yes, our friend has retired and we are proud of his long reputation that he so earned...when he wasn t even watching! Now Wes can dance whenever he wants. :) Woohoo! Thank you Wes and God s speed!

4 Next Generation Jr Shagger s Dance Work shop What a day we had! Our daughter and granddaughter went with us to a Junior Shag Dance workshop in Hopewell, Va. We arrived as planned on time...along with the different age groups of juniors. Our granddaughter, Lexi was very shy at first when we arrived. After several juniors close to her age were practicing and with some coaxing, she began to warm up to the fun environment! Our own BBC DJ, Craig Jennings was the DJ for the day. After a workshop with Pro dancers Sam and Lisa West, they had a contest of the different age groups. Well, Lexi decided to get in the contest. Without further details...lexi and her partner won 2nd place in the contest! What an exciting moment. Lexi got a 12 high trophy, and a secret envelope. The next morning over breakfast she opened it and found a $50 bill!....yes, we have another shagger coming up!

5 Club Members out on the Town Rondels and Embers Beach Music Festival On September 22, a bunch of BBC members went to the Colonial Beach Festival to hear the Rondels and Embers. It was a beautiful day as we all sat in our lawn chairs sipping and snacking on fun foods. The music was just what we all needed. The bands got everyone up on their feet moving to the groove. Wes and Shirley Kirchner taught a shag dance lesson to enthusiastic dancers. Later they had a dance contest and a few couples got up on the sandy dance floor to show off their talents. The winner got a gift card for dinner for two at a local seafood restaurant. Colonial Beach is a very clean and charming town and being there with great bands and good friends, was just what we all needed. Crabs Picking and Eating Several of us got together to have crabs, a past time that will make you slow down and enjoy the moment. You can not be in a hurry when picking crabs. It is an art to picking them just right and eating them as quickly as you pick them. Whether you think of it or not, we are surrounded by waterways that give us crabs. The Chesapeake Bay, the Potomac River, and all the water in between give us a bounty of crabs. Now, some of us are very skilled at picking crabs, but some of us are not. So to look smart looking it up on the Internet could save face. Well after trying out the tips, it was decided that it is best to just muddle along and act like you know what you are doing. Because its not the actual eating that is special, it is the slow process and the time you share with friends. That is what it is all about. Now, if you can not get crabs by the bushel, the fine restaurants in our area will surely have your favorite crab selection on the menu. You may not have to pick the crabs, either way..just relax and enjoy! Your fellow BBC members surely did!
