Welcome to the upcoming Season! If you are considering becoming part of our Pyramid family, we would enjoy the opportunity to meet you and give you a tour of our new gym facility. We want you to see and feel the energy & passion inside the gym that we see and feel everyday. We re forming teams for nearly every age and ability level, from little or no experience to an Apex level Elite athlete. We are looking to form teams from Level 1 to 5. Every Athlete is placed on the team, regardless of experience. Our Coaches and Staff provide the best, most disciplined training in the area. We will teach our students to excel in all areas of cheerleading. We will encourage positive attitudes and respectful behavior. Our goal is to develop the best squads possible, while instilling qualities and values that will last a lifetime. Parents Pre-Season Introduction & Information Meeting April 27th at 5:30pm and April 29th at 1:00pm. Everyone is invited! We will be going through a Season Overview, introducing the Coaching & Training Staff, and answering all your questions. 1
Tryout & Team Placement Information In order to put each team in the best position to be successful at competitions this coming season, Pyramid will be implementing a 2-part tryout. Part 1 of our tryouts will consist of evaluating each athlete s individual skills (Jumps, Running Tumbling & Standing Tumbling) Levels 1-5. Part 2 of our tryouts will consist of evaluating each athlete s stunting ability (Levels 3-5 only). The tryout process will be short, comfortable, relaxed and fun. We are evaluating what skills athletes already possess, it s not a competition. Part 1: Individual Skills (April Evaluations) By Appointment Only. Mon April 16th thru Fri 20th & Mon April 23th thru Fri 27th, 2pm to 4pm each day, and Sunday April 29th, 2:00 to 5:00pm. Evaluations are 1-on-1 and will last approximately 30 min. Part 2: Group Stunt Formations (May Evaluations) Saturday May 12 th from 12pm to 3pm (levels 3-5). After Part 1 of tryouts (individual skills) in April, each athlete will be evaluated in several stunt groups workouts. Athletes trying out for a flyer position will be evaluated on their flexibility, body position, baskets, dismounts, overall tightness and technique. We will evaluate flyers both on a block and in the air. All bases and back spots will be evaluated on their strength, stunting technique and their ability to make corrections during the stunts. We want to meet you and we want your athlete to be completely comfortable. When you leave, you will leave as part of the New Pyramid Athletics Family! Please Note: - There is no Fee to tryout for a team during our scheduled evaluations. - Any athlete missing either Part 1 or 2 tryouts can schedule a private tryout for $75. - Tryouts will be closed. This means no family members or friends can observe. - Team Placements will be posted Tuesday, May 15th after 8:30pm. We will be fielding teams in as many divisions as possible. 10 Miscellaneous Information All routines/choreography including music, cheers, dances, stunts, transitions, and tumbling should be highly protected and shall not be shown or discussed with others outside of the Pyramid family. Pyramid Athletics choreography should never be copied or taught to anyone without consent from Stefan San Nicholas. This also includes any and all portions of music selections and editing. NO VIDEOS of routines or choreography should be uploaded to any online site such as YOUTUBE, Instagram or Facebook! Owners and director must approve all designs bearing the Pyramid brand name and/or logo. Anything created without our approval will not be acceptable and cannot be worn or sold independently. Our logos have full copyright protection (final versions will be revealed at the Introduction & Information meeting at the end of April). We believe in perfection before progression. We will not allow students to learn advanced tumbling skills before perfecting their basics. If parents and students are not patient, or lack a clear understanding & acceptance of our teaching methods, they should not be cheering at Pyramid Athletics. Proper Technique is everything! Only perfected skills will be choreographed in a Pyramid Athletics routine! Parents are not allowed to spot their children on the gym property. Absolutely NO unsupervised tumbling! An instructor must be present at all times. Private lessons must be prepaid at the front desk. You must schedule those directly with an instructor. The optional weekly Tumbling or Flight Class will be required for anyone who does not meet the necessary skill requirements. This class is not included in the monthly tuition. Tumbling and athletes selected as flyers must maintain flexibility and flying skill requirements. Selected flyers unable to meet the level requirements must learn to base or be moved to an alternate position. In addition, mandatory tumbling will be required for athletes who do not maintain the level skill requirements. Open Gym is a great way to augment your formal skills practice! Anyone with mental tumbling blocks may be sent home. Further action will be taken at the coach s discretion. Tuition does not pay for the right to perform. Individuals must meet the level skill requirements in order to compete. Mandatory tumbling will be assigned as needed. Students can be moved to an alternate position if they do not maintain the skill requirements. Pyramid Athletics reserves the right to change a team s division or level at any time during the year. Any parent/guardian going against the judgement/advice of our uniform rep during sizing of apparel/uniforms will NOT be allowed to exchange poorly fitted garments once received. Replacements are typically available, but at full cost! 10
Miscellaneous Information (continued) Additionally, athletes will be required to purchase new garments that do not fit due to weight fluctuation. Exchanges will not be available for any garment or uniform that has been worn. ABSENCE POLICY Students are allowed up to 4 absences for family vacations from May to September 3rd. These absences may be in conjunction with any of the previously listed summer breaks. Please plan accordingly. Additional absences will jeopardize an athlete s placement on their respective team. Absences are NOT allowed the weekend and week prior to a National competition. An Absence Request Form must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the absence. DO NOT request forms. Those forms are for absences including school cheerleaders, gymnastics, choir, band, and all others sports. Your school activities are planned well in advance. Please submit your request in advance. Absences must be approved. School competitive cheer conflicts will not be allowed/ excused during any Pyramid Athletics All-Star events. SICK/INJURY POLICY You must attend practice when you are sick. Athletes are not required to participate; however, you must be present. Extended sickness you must provide a doctor s note with detailed information regarding the illness, treatment and length of recovery. In the event that a student is injured at home or during other extracurricular activities, we ask that you please notify us as soon as possible. We will make changes with choreography/routines based on the person s injury and length of recovery. Once the individual has fully recovered, he or she may or may NOT be choreographed back into the routine. The coaches have complete discretion in replacing such individuals for the rest of the season. All injured athletes mush continue to pay their monthly tuition. Anyone selected as a crossover substituting for any athlete for any reason will automatically receive the original athlete registration for competitions. 11
Miscellaneous Information (continued) CODE OF CONDUCT A member must at all times be a strong representative of Pyramid Athletic/GymBeat and a positive reflection of her/his teammates. Abusive behavior, lying, and or any other form of negative behavior is grounds for removal. We have a Zero tolerance policy for alcohol or drug use. The same goes for theft. We will not tolerate negative comments about other teams and their programs. Many of you communicate with other cheerleaders at various organizations through , Facebook, Instagram, GroupME, Twitter and message boards. Please remember that anything you ever say or post is a direct reflection on this organization. NOTE: If you are caught sending rude or inappropriate messages on SOCIAL MEDIA, you will be subject to immediate removal! In addition, you CANNOT use the Pyramid/GymBeat name or any variation of our name in your address. Teammates are expected to treat one another with mutual respect. We do not tolerate pettiness, gossiping or cliques; which attempt to exclude or alienate certain members. Back-talk, rolling of eyes and any other show of disrespect for instructors or teammates is unacceptable. A problem between a student and staff member will first be addressed between student and coach/ director. If not solved, a parent will be notified of the problem or infraction of the rules and will be expected to assist the instructor in solving the problem. We will handle any disciplinary problems privately and professionally. TEAM PRACTICE RULES All practices are CLOSED to athletes from other gyms. We also reserve the right to close all practices to family and friends! There is NO JEWELRY worn at practices or competitions, which includes all earrings, belly button rings, and necklaces. Athlete CELL PHONES should be not used during practice times. NO GUM at practice or competitions. There is NO excessively long fingernails or sculpts. There is to be NO videotaping of practices. Practice clothes most be worn at practice (black or Pyramid clothing). Lost, misplaced or damaged clothing will be replaced at YOUR expense. We are not responsible for any loss. Most communication is set forth in monthly notes, s, group massaging and Facebook group. Each team will have a designate head coach and a team representative responsible for relaying information to the parents and Pyramid staff. Any questions or team-related problems should first be addressed to the head coach (Stefan) and director (Claudia), before or after practice (in private), prior to contacting the owner. 12
Miscellaneous Information (continued) Parents are not allowed to be out on the gym floor during any practice. TRAVEL - FLIGHTS All flights and travel should be booked ONE day before the beginning of any competition, with departure schedule for the day following the end of the event. History has shown us that cutting arrival & departure times too close results in missed flights, or worse being late to a competition. HOLIDAY BREAKS Pyramid is a 12 months program. We will begin meeting and practicing in May 2018 and continue through the end of April Athletes are expected to attend all competitions as a team. We realize many children and young adults are involved in a variety of activities; however, we cannot make exceptions for schedule conflicts. Most teams practice 3 to 4 hours during the week and approximately 2 hours on the weekend during the summer. It will maybe some extra practices on weekends close to competition season. We expect 100% commitment and attendance. We will be able to keep extra practices to a minimum if our regular practices are productive and well-attended. The fallowing dates are available for holidays and vacations throughout the season. May (Memorial Day Weekend) July 2-8 (Fourth of July) August 2-12 (summer break) September 1-3 (Labor Day Weekend) October 31 (Halloween) November (Thanksgiving Weekend) December 22 - January 1 (Winter Break) March 9-15 (Spring Break) April 25 - May 7 (Worlds and Summit 2019) We will also need to block-out 3-day Choreography Camps during the summer for both Stunt and Team choreography. Those days will be confirmed once the teams have been selected. Participation is required!!! 13
