Lieutenant Aarons leads the SWAT Team and several patrols for GCPD and conducted an inservice for faculty, staff, and administration on intruder on-campus safety and active shooter situations. We appreciate the Goose Creek Police Department, Berkeley County Sherriff s Office and SLED for working with us to educate us on these emergency situations and protocols. It s YEARBOOK Time Again! 3 Upper School News Charger Explores Her Heritage Northwood Academy sophomore, Norah Strickland, spent part of her summer attending the Safeguarding Our Natural and Tribal Heritage Youth Program sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and hosted by the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Twenty American Indian high school students were selected from all over the east coast to attend an intensive, two-week residential program. The program gave Norah the opportunity to learn more about STEM as well as agriculture, environmental sciences, and her American Indian heritage. Norah is a member of the Lumbee American Indian tribe and was the only student from South Carolina selected to attend. ATTENTION SENIORS: Senior formal and casual photos are due to the yearbook staff by Monday, September 10 in order to be included in the yearbook and the senior video. Astrapé Club Starting September 11, 10th and 11th graders interested in working on the yearbook can join our new Astrapé Club. The club will meet twice a week from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. in the computer lab. This is a great opportunity to learn more about journalism, photography, and yearbook design. Come make your mark and leave a legacy as a member of the Astrapé Club. Drop by the media center to sign-up with Mrs. Owens. College Financial Aid Night MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 6:00 p.m. Upper School Cafeteria A college financial aid representative will help parents walk through the process and answer questions. For the senior class of 2019, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens October 1, 2018 for the academic year. Senior and Junior parents are welcome to attend.

4 Charger Sports Fall Sports Kick Off Congratulations to our Northwood SWIM TEAM on another successful Northwood Invitational on Saturday, August 18 at Carnes pool. Northwood hosted 175 swimmers participate from all over the Lowcountry. Out of 11 teams, our Chargers placed 5th overall. Thanks to all of the coaches, parents and volunteers that made this event so special. The swim team is coached by Northwood alumna and faculty member Leana Locklear. This past month, our CROSS COUNTRY team participated in a team-building camp on James Island, as well as the Race for the Ark 5k. These student-athletes are ready for an awesome season. The cross country team is coached by Kim Infinger and assisted by Sandra Herrman. Our VOLLEYBALL teams are prepping and training for a fantastic season. So far, our JV and Varsity teams have shown great endurance in matches against several teams such as Military Magnet, Cane Bay, and Lowcountry Wildcats. The varsity team is coached by Danielle Newman. The Northwood FOOTBALL program has kicked off with an enthusiastic start. Everyone is excited about the turnout for our home games and to see that Northwood Charger spirit. The varsity football team is coached by Ryan Leaver. The Charger CHEERLEADING squads attended a UCA cheer camp this summer in Myrtle Beach and received the Tradition award. This award shows leadership on and off the field. Congratulations, cheerleaders! The varsity squad is coached by Tabitha Thomason. If you ordered any items from the CHARGER SHOP, please follow up with us to make sure you have received the correct items. We are so excited for the response! Keep on the lookout for new items coming each month. Across Both Campuses We Want Your Boxtops! Collecting Box Tops is an easy way to both support and earn money for our school. Senior officers will be clipping those tops! So PLEASE bring in your Box Tops. They may be dropped off at the Upper or Lower School.
