May NCAA West Preliminaries All Day TBA June 5-8 NCAA Outdoor Championships All Day Eugene, Ore. 49ER TRACK & FIELD SET TO COMPETE IN RUN FOR THE DREAM INVITATIONAL ON SUNDAY Long Beach State will travel north to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Run for the Dream Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 17. RUN FOR THE DREAM The Run for the Dream Indoor Track & Field Invitational will be held at Save Mart Center in Fresno. LBSU has 17 athletes (11 women, 6 men) entered in 11 different events. The 49ers will begin the meet with the women s shot put at 3:30 p.m., while their last event of the day is the men s mile, which is slated to begin at 6:54 p.m. LAST TIME OUT Long Beach State sent most of its athletes to the Air Force Team Challenge at Cadet Field House in USAF Academy, Colo., last Saturday. The 49ers had a number of strong performances, led by freshman Willie Alexander s school-record in the long jump. Alexander won that event and also placed fourth in the triple jump. Senior Michael Vaughan ended up being the top fi nisher in the triple jump with a lifetime-best 48-10, which moved him up to No. 5 on the LBSU all-time charts. Emily Cooper was also a double-winner in the (7.54) and (24.72) as she now ranks third and fourth, respectively, in school history. The 49ers also had a handful of distance runners competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., last weekend. Senior Rosa Del Toro highlighted the group with a school-record 16:23.15 to fi nish seventh in the 5000m. Senior Michelle Thompson also posted a lifetimebest 17:11.86, while senior Jake Dawson added a personal-record 14:37.37 in the men s 5000m. Thompson s and Dawson s marks both rank third on the LBSU all-time charts. In other performances, Meghan Foley registered a personal-best 4:56.35 in the mile and Chris Enriquez followed with a mark of 8:30.87 in his fi rst-ever 3000-meter race. ALEXANDER MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT Freshman Willie Alexander wasted no time in establishing himself at Long Beach State as he registered an indoor school-record to win the long jump in his collegiate debut at the Air Force Team Challenge. Alexander also placed fourth in the triple jump where his mark ranks seventh in program history ( ). DEL TORO S LAST STAND Senior Rosa Del Toro, who is in the midst of her fi nal indoor season, is already the most decorated athlete in program history with six school records to her name. She owns the top indoor times in the mile (4:50.75), 3000m (9:22.08), and 5000m (16:23.15), and ran an LBSU outdoor-best 4:24.97 in the 1500m last year. She also notched school records in the 5K (17:09.8) and 6K (20:27) during the 2011 cross country season. RECORD BREAKERS In addition to the school records established by Rosa Del Toro (3000m, 5000m) and Willie Alexander (), Long Beach State has had 16 other athletes post 20 marks that rank among the all-time top-10 in indoor program history. UP NEXT The 49ers will gear up for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend. The two-day meet, which features members from the Big West, Pac-12 and West Coast Conferences, will be held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash., Feb
