All About Student Council By: Larissa Spaho In fourth grade we have started elections to try to get a spot on student council. The Student Council is a group of kids who brainstorm ideas to make our elementary school and world a better place. There are 6 leadership positions: President Vice president Secretary Treasurer Historian Spirit coordinator In the fall each classroom will choose 1 representative that represents their classroom at council meetings. There will be 4th graders listened to a presentation about leadership and student council responsibilities Book Recommendations Title: Auggie and Me Author: R.J. Palacio Auggie and Me is the sequel to the book Wonder. It has three stories about the characters in Wonder : The Julian Chapter, Pluto, and Shingoling. People should read it because it is 1 Page

2 very interesting and it talks about friendship. (Maria-Andriana Bartzoca, 2nd grade) Title: The Worst Witch Author: Jill Murphy Mildred starts going to witch school. One day there is a parade and something wrong happens! I think people should read it because it is exiting! (Kana, 3rd grade) Title: Who Let The Gods Out? Author: Maz Evans It s about a poor boy with a mother who has an illness. He has a tough time at school with a teacher who wants to give him detentions everyday. Until a constellation falls down the sky and his whole life changes It s good for people who are into the history of the greek gods and the greeks. (It s a series) (Hunter, 5th grade) Title: The BFG Author: Roald Dahl The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is a great book! It s about a little girl named Sophie, who lives in an orphanage, and one night she sees a great big giant coming down her street, blowing something into childrens bedrooms. The BFG is the only non-man-eating giant, but he still takes Sophie. Why? Where will he take her? Will they be able to stop the other man-eating giants? If you want to find out, you better read The BFG! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did! People should read The BFG because it is a funny story full of 2 Page

3 adventure and determination to stop the man-eating giants from eating more people. It is also a very friendly story (besides the man-eating giants) and it is full of new foods and drinks like snozzcumbers. I think anyone could read it, especially people who like giants and magic and adventure. (Alice, 4th grade) Title: Underpants Captain Author Dav Pilkey Captain Underpants is a hero, but their is a secret in the book. It is that Mr. Krump is a superhero. George Beard and Harold Hutchins save Captain Underpants every 14 adventures. You should read it because it s the best book ever! (Diego, 2nd grade) A Special Place By: Alejandra Ribe Why is Jerica special? Because when it rains it s not an annoyance, it s an opportunity to look for snails. Because instead of playing on the swings, we climb a rock to go down a regular slide. Because the dark nights aren t scary, they are the best to see the stars. Because you can slide through the cold waters of a river. Because once a year it goes back to the Middle Ages and you can stroll with knights, princesses, horses, eagles, owls, and storytellers. Because when I go out on the street I know I m going to find a friend to play with. Because it is a place where they paint the feathers of the pigeons 3 Page

4 and when they fly they look like a rainbow. Because when any party is celebrated the music band goes in the streets and children follow it. Because there are parties where they give hot chocolate and muffins to everyone. Why didn t the nose go to school?
