1 Barren County Middle School Dance Team Tryouts Who: Any 6 th grade or 7 th grade girls interested in trying Out for the Barren Co. Middle School Dance Team. What: Tryouts for the year. When: CLINIC: Thursday, May 2 3:30-6:30. (Learning the technique & tryout routine). CLINIC DAY & TRYOUT DAY: Friday, May 3 3:30-4:30 (clinic) & 4:30-8:00 (tryouts) Where: Barren Co. High School Gym (Thursday) Barren Co. High School dance room (Friday) All candidates need to attend an informative meeting with their parent/guardian at Barren Co High School Gym immediately following the first dance clinic on Thursday, May 2 nd at 6:30pm. The meeting is to discuss the BCMS dance team program, rules and guidelines, financial issues, sports physical forms, fundraisers and tryout process. All candidates dancing must have a current sports physical form before trying out for the team. If you have a current physical please bring a copy to the clinic or informational meeting. 2 TRYOUT INFORMATION CLINIC DAY: Thursday, May 2 ND 3:30pm-6:30pm *Clinic Day will be at the Barren Co High School Gym. *Wear comfortable clothes and dance shoes or tennis shoes. *Have all forms filled out and bring physical on this day. *Immediately following the clinic there will be a parent 6:30pm. CLINIC & TRYOUT DAY: Friday, May 3 RD 3:30PM-8:00pm *Clinic will be at the Barren Co High School Gym. *Tryout will be in the BCHS Dance Room (in the gym). *Wear black shorts or yoga pants and tank (any color) *Dance shoes or tennis shoes *Make sure hair is pulled up *The clinic will be from 3:30-4:30 and the tryout will start at 4:30-?. 3 BARREN CO. MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE TEAM Technique All About Dance (weekly practice) *Starting June-April, dancer is responsible to pay a monthly fee: $40.00 (Due at the first practice of the month. There is a $5.00 Late fee.) *JUNE & JULY PRACTICE S (1 day a week)=wednesday s $35.00 a month (@ All About Dance studio) *AUGUST-APRIL PRACTICE S (2 days a week)=wednesday s 4:45-6:00 (@ BCHS). Friday s 4:00-5:00 (@ All About Dance Studio) $40.00 a month. All About Dance (learning competition routines etc.) *Date: June (MANDATORY) *Time: 9:00am-2:00pm *prices:$ (due the June 10 TH ) Personal Expenses (prices could change) *Monthly Payment: $40.00 first practice of month, $5.00 late fee) *Camp: $ (Due June 10 TH) *Dance Shoes: $30.00 (Black jazz shoes coaches order)(due June 5 th ) *Dance Shoes: $30.00 (Tan jazz shoes coaches order) (Due June 5 th ) (Due: before camp) *Dance Team Apparel: $200.00: 2 t-shirts, skort, jazz pants, warm up jacket w/ dancers name, pant, and dance bag. (Due July 17 th ) (For school ballgames, competitions. Etc. Dancer s keep the Team Apparel) *School Uniform Rental Fee: $20.00 (Due JULY 17 th ) Fundraiser s: Little Caesars, Rada Knives, Lolly Pops, etc. Fundraiser pays for: *Competitions *Replacement costumes *Technique classes (Fundraiser money will go to the dancer not the team; parent chooses where the money will go. If you do not fundraise you will pay for these things out of your own pocket.) Dance Team Activities *Competitions (starting Oct-?) *Ballgames (basketball season only) *Pep rally

4 BCMS DANCE TEAM RULES & GUIDELINES TRYOUTS: 1. Each dancer candidate must turn in the BCMS Dance Team tryout Permission Form with the parent s signature before trying out for the team. Each candidate and parent, also must sign and turn in the BCMS Dance Team Rules and Guidelines, stating that they are familiar and aware of the rules governing this dance team. 2. All participants in dancing must have a current physical form and provide insurance information before trying out for the squad. Preferably on the first clinic date. 3. The coach will determine the minimum and maximum number of team members during tryouts. Every girl/guy must realize that being a dancer is a privilege and requires a lot of time, effort, energy, cooperation and is expected to give at least 100% at all times!!! BEHAVIOR: 4. Dancers are expected to be respectful to the coaches, other team members, all faculty members, and visitors. They should treat each individual with respect inside and outside of practice. If at any time an individual shows disrespect toward a fellow dancer by inappropriate talk or action the coach may send them home early from practice or game or in an extreme case may dismiss them from the team. 5. Dancers are expected to display good behavior during school hours. 6. If at any point a dancer threatens to quit the team to the coach they will be asked to turn in their uniform and be dismissed as a BCMS dancer immediately. 7. As a representative of the school and community, Dance team members must show exemplary behavior at ALL times. A BCMS Dancer must be a role model and have good sportsmanship for his/her peers. 8. Any misunderstands among team members must be brought to the coach s attention ASAP!!! Individuals do not take matters into their own hands. If there is ongoing drama, parents will be called in for a meeting with the girls and coach to mediate the situation. 9. Public displays of affection are not considered appropriate behavior. If romances cannot be handled privately it is suggested that you don t become a dancer candidate. Warnings following the first offense, after second offense there will be a conference with the coach and parents, the third offense could end in suspension from the team. 10. Wearing uniforms in public should only be done in an appropriate manner. When wearing a uniform in public you are representing BCMS and all that it stands for as a school. If a dancer is reported wearing their uniform in an appropriate manner, all dancers will be banned from wearing their uniform outside of ballgames etc.

5 CLASSROOM 11. Academic performance is of top priority, it will always come first!!! The BCMS Policy Statement will go over the grades required etc. As far as bad behavior in class getting detentions and missing practice due to the detentions, the dancer will sit out at the next ballgame in uniform. Dancer s grades will be checked periodically, to make sure these dance team girls keep up the highest academic performance!!! PRACTICES/ACTIVITIES 12. Once practices are made they are set in stone unless told otherwise. If a practice is canceled you will be called but this is very rare!!! As far as competitions and summer camps go once those dates are made and paid for they are set in stone. Competition companies normally do not give refunds. 13. No dancer is excused from attending a ballgame or competition or practice session unless the coach grants permission. If an accepted excuse is not given, the dancer will sit out the next ballgame in uniform following the absence. A job is not acceptable. Church, family reasons and certain doctors appointments are understandable. When practices are made it is very important to be there ready to dance and work hard!!! The dancer will be given only 3 unexcused absences. An absence is considered unexcused if you miss practice for a unacceptable reason, a coach needs to know at least 7 days prior to the absence. After 3 unexcused practices you will have a conference with the coaches to discuss your participation on the team. Coaches can determine whether you remain on the team, compete in upcoming competitions or dance at ballgames. 14. Participation in other activities is encouraged; however, dancers at BCMS require a lot of dedication!!! The coaches will work to the best of their ability with the individuals involved in other activities. If there is a conflict that occurs this should be brought to the coach s attention immediately. Ultimately, BCMS dance related activities come first. This is a team sport, if you miss practice or special events not only are you hurting yourself but you are hurting the team. 15. Dancers need to make sure when it is practice day to bring a snack to eat before practice. Dancers need to always have proper dance apparel (clothing that conforms to the body, dance shoes, hair pulled up ready to go!). No jewelry, no gum or candy! ABSOLUTLY NO use of tobacco, drugs and/or alcohol at any time. This could result in the dancer being expelled from the team. 16. If the dancer doesn t go to school then dancer cannot attend practice that day. For example: Illness, snow day, suspension, etc.

6 FUNDRAISERS/MEETINGS 17. Fundraisers will be held throughout the season, and each individual will be expected to participate. We do fundraising to help with any expenses possible. If you do not fundraise you will pay for all expenses out of your own pocket. When there is a fundraiser, the fundraiser money will go to the dancer not the team. The team will normally do big fundraisers, such as Little Caesars pizza kits, ETC... The proceeds of each fundraiser will go to the individual dancers. If we hold a school event then the team will share the money equally. 18. If a dancer chooses not to participate in a team fundraiser, the dancer will be responsible for making payment to the squad totaling the average sales/profit amount, this will be done with your fundraiser money or from your own pocket (it is only fair). 19. Meetings are mandatory!!! Meetings are very important we will discuss all dance team related subjects. We will discuss competitions, fundraising, ballgames, costumes everything and anything will be discussed. Sometimes we will vote on certain matters for the dance team and if you are not present to the meeting your voice will not be heard and the majority wins!
