1 SideWalk 30,60, 100 Rope Horizontal Lifeline Systems General Information PD The HORIZONTAL SAFETY LINES have been tested to the standards described in ANSI Z , CSA Z and certified by third party certification. The HSL is for two operative max use only, a full body harness complying to ANSI Z , and CSA Z and shock absorbing lanyard complying to ANSI Z /OSHA and CSA Z pr a retractable lifeline, complying to ANSI Z359.1 and CSA Z , must be used when operating with the Horizontal Safety Line. Lanyard connections onto the Horizontal Safety Line, usually carabiners, must be smooth, and free of any burrs, or sharp edges. It is important that anchor points are sufficient to withstand load requirements indicated in table on page 3. Important Safety Points about Doc.# TS- WARNING! You must read and fully understand all instructions, or have them explained to you, before attempting to use this equipment. Equipment must not be installed, operated, or inspected by anyone who does not understand this instruction. Failure to observe these instructions could result in serious injury or death. Careless or improper use of this equipment can cause injury or death. Training and instruction review should be repeated at regular intervals. If you have any questions regarding these instructions, please call SafeWaze. Contact information is for Customer Service. 1. Thoroughly inspect all components before and after fitting. 2. Do not use additional bars or levers to induce a higher tension in line. 3. Ensure that harness/lanyard attachments, carabiners, etc, are free from sharp edges, or burrs. 4. Ensure that anchor points are designed as indicated on page Ensure that when using attachment straps, the sleeve is suitably positioned to prevent any abrasion or cutting. Inspection and Examination Keep these instructions, with the Horizontal Lifeline System to aid in future inspection and examination. The equipment must be visually examined by a competent person when delivered to site/works, and thereafter at regular intervals, particular attention should be paid to the following: METALWARE: Inspect for signs of damage/distortion, and that all moving parts and springs are fully operational, and rope for wear and abrasion. Tensioning the Lifeline When installing, connect as drawing, follow 0246-HD instructions (Page5) to properly tension the cable. Expanded detail is on Page 2. Using Rope loop on one end, put carabiners per drawing, and then pull cable hand tight through the tensioner on the other end. Pull cable snug, do not over tighten. See drawings for rope threading through tensioner. Follow instruction on the drawing Page 2 for proper assembly of the lifeline. Use Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3 on Pages 3 and 4 to determine the appropriate clearances for one and two workers, and the proper application of this lifeline. Torque settings: ft lbs torque, or Tension load: lbs force, or 3/8 exposed yellow on SWPC-17 tensioner, optional item. Page 1 of 5

2 SideWalk 30, 60, 100 Rope Horizontal Lifeline System Tensioning, Rope Data and Connection Diagram Doc.# TS- Tensioning the Rope After connecting rope system as shown in drawing: pull rope through the Tensioner 0246-HD until snug and hand taut. Using one of three methods, you can set the tension as follows by turning the tension nut with rod, or torque wrench in clockwise direction until proper tension is achieved: -Using torque wrench, turn Torque Nut until 60 ft/lbs of torque is reached on wrench indictor, OR, -Using a tension indicator you supply, set the tension on the rope system to between lbs of force, OR, -Using the SWPC-17, optional unit as tension indicator, pull the rope tight until 3/8 of yellow is showing on the tension rod of the SWPC 17, indicating correct tension. Technical Data ROPE SIZE ROPE TYPE For clearances, see appropriate table One or Two workers Charts For Tensioning rope, see instructions adjacent to this chart- Three options are available. 5/8 Dia. Reassemble by aligning pins, and tightening wing nut. Tension rope by turning large tensioning nut on side until correct tension is reached. Tensioning nut To use SWPC -17 optional tension indicator, insert between the tensioner unit and crossarm strap D-ring. NOTE: Additional is required to install SWPC-17. Calculating the free fall: The free fall is calculated by using the equation. (6 ft (lanyard). + 5 ft.( D-ring height) 7 ft (above the walking working surface) = 4 ft. free fall)!warning! If the system has been subjected to a fall arrest, it should be removed from service immediately. Remove from service and mark "DO NOT USE". The free fall distance must be determined and added to the value from the table The free fall distance can be determined by using the formula: FF = L + D H FF = Free Fall L = the length of the lanyard. D = the height of the worker s D-ring from the walking-working surface. This can normally be assumed to be 5 ft. H = Height of the HLL from the walking-working surface. Please note that the height of the HLL is not necessarily the height of the anchorage. Consider the sag of the cable. (H) (F) (D) Walking/Working Sur face Fall Clearance Space Page 3 of 5

5 Doc.# TS-TWHR-XXX Installation & adjustment of the 0246-HD Tensioner 1.1 Verify that the anchorages meet the requirements per OSHA 1926 or as described in these instructions. 1.2 Verify that the clearance below the walking working surface is adequate. (See previous Table 1 & 2.) 1.3 If the above parameters are acceptable and consistent with the application, proceed with the installation. 1.4 Visually inspect the before every use by user. 1.5 If needed, attach appropriate anchorage connectors to the anchorages according the instruction provided with the anchorage connector. Make sure that the anchorage connectors are installed at the same elevation and there is no more than 5 degrees of slope in the line. 1.6 Connect the end of the SWHR- XXX with the spliced eye to one anchorage using the carabiner and 0247 setup as shown below. 1.7 Connect the 0246-HD eye of the to the other anchorage using the carabiner provided. 1.8 Open 0246-HD to allow pulling the back spliced end of lifeline through the 0246-HD by hand until the slack has been removed and is hand taut. Close unit. Page 5 of 5 Eye Rope from other end of lifeline Unit open to show path of rope Rope is to be pulled through unit in this direction after being secured to anchorage on far end. Pull hand tight, close unit cover, and then tension per instructions. 1.9 Make sure release lever is in the closed position. Tension Nut-turn to put more tension on rope Set Max tension 350 lbs Use a wrench or a cylindrical bar to turn nut. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN Use a torque wrench to rotate the 0247-HD nut clockwise to a maximum force of 60ft-lb. The recommended tension force on the line is lb. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN Utilize the backsplice or use a knot tied in end of rope to prevent rope from coming back through the tensioner. Note: The buyer is responsible for ensuring proper strength and reliability of anchorage points and for proper installation. Eye To release the rope tension pull down on on tension release lever.
