Mallo Firé is a spectacular rock spire nearly 300 meters tall of fragile and reddish conglomerate rock where some of the hardest routes in Spain and Europe have been opened. BOREAL was born as a specialized climbing and mountaineering footwear manufacturer in The director and founder, Jesús García López, produced the first rock shoes made in Spain, including for the first time in the world, a flat and very sticky outsole. This was the first style he developed; it was called El Capitan. In the mid to late 1970 s, BOREAL pursued a research and development programme with the aim of improving the performance of rock shoes. A key goal was to develop a new climbing rubber with not only the highest levels of friction but also the durability, hardness and abrasion resistance necessary to ensure unmatched performance. In 1981, The Gallego brothers used the Fire to open the first non-american route to El Capitan, called Mediterraneo. In the days after their ascent, they showed the other climbers at Camp 4 the Firé and the incredible sticky rubber that BOREAL had made. From this moment on, the world s best climbers began to climb with BOREAL products. In the 1980 s, BOREAL continued to develop revolutionary styles leading to the confirmation of grade 8 and later the opening of grade 9 in the early 90 s. 48 Shoe fit A rock climbing shoe should fit "comfortably tight" throughout and never cause pain at any one particular point (especially in the toe box). Shoes fitted in this manner will stretch and produce a personalized fit after a while. Boots that produce painful "pressure points" usually won't stretch out after the initial breaking in period. THE LAST The most important factor affecting the shoe's fit is the shape of the last, the model "foot" around which the shoe is constructed. Boreal incorporates certain anatomical shapes in its lasts to achieve various effects depending upon what each shoe is designed for (technical edging, sport climbing, competition, long routes, etc.). The two most important characteristics of the last are the amount of "Flex" it has and the shape of its "Sole". Flex Patterns FLEXED The traditional flexed last shape duplicates the correct anatomical position of the foot while climbing. This last shape is the most comfortable of all last shapes for general climbing purposes as it puts the foot into its natural climbing position without exerting excessive pressures on the foot. Sizes Slip-lasting The slip-lasting method of construction involves sewing the leather uppers to the leather insole to create a kind of "sock". Slip-lasting is prefered for cambered lasts because stiff midsoles are not necessary to obtain edging performance and would destroy sensitivity with these types of shoes.
