This program is offered to help all instructors/facilitators to hone their skills, learn new ways, pick up cool ideas and possibly teach old dogs some new tricks. This Conference will also give everyone time to share ideas and develop a better unity within across the region. And of course the food will be fantastic. Unfortunately, we will not be renewing Director cards. Directors must now attend a National Camp School (NSC) to renew their cards or apply for Continuing Education Credit Renewal. 3 2017 COPE/Climbing Fall Conference Sport climbing We will introduce lead climbing using bolted routes. This is a natural progression from the Gym to the Rock and will give everyone a good feel for their ability on rock. Some trad climbing may be introduced. Setting up Top Ropes on Sport Routes Once you have topped out on a Sport Route, many times others what to climb. The process of changing from lead climbing to a top rope is simple but can be confusing. We will demonstrate this and allow others to practice. Light/Fast/Different Based on AMAG, NOLS and other programs we have discovered that the BSA way while very safe may not be the fastest or simplest. We will demonstrate several different way to set up top ropes and rappels that will reduce the amount of equipment required while still keeping things safe. There is Right-Wrong and Different. Ascending We will teach ascending on a single rope, changing over to rappelling and then back again. This technique is often used in caving, however there are applications within the BSA program. Each person will have the opportunity to ascend and change over to descending in a controlled setting. Incident Resolution We will review BSA incident resolution procedure and then move on to alternative way to rescue a rappeller or climber. This will include 4:1 pullies, Georgia Haul Counter balance, and tandem rappelling. Each group will have opportunities to practice the different systems. Universal Access We will demonstrate Universal Access techniques for a tower and High Course and show how they can be applied. Each group will have opportunities to practice. Marketing Given the changing youth culture, outdoor high adventure actives sometime are hard to sell. We will discuss as a group ways to improve our turn-outs, adjust fees and strategies to maintain a healthy program. Advanced facilitation We will provide opportunities to learn and practice techniques facilitating and processing initiative games and low course activities, as well as applications for team development on the high course. This session will be led by staff that facilitate year round programs and have over 20 years dealing with youth. Dealing with Disabilities ADHD can be a distraction during an event. Learn and practice techniques facilitating youth and adults with both physical and developmental disabilities. New games We will introduce a wide variety of initiative and low COPE games that will make your programs new. Bring with you any cool game that you would like to show off. Zip rescues Zip rescues are few and far between (we hope). We will demonstrate several methods for rescuing a person trapped mid-line. ou will have the opportunity to practice these skills.
