It is 13 miles from central London and 8miles from Jct 30 of the M25/A13. Public Transport: Bus: No direct bus route to location. Train: We will offer a pick and drop off service from and to the following stations: Over Ground: Rainham (Fenchurch Street Line C2C), Underground: Hornchurch (District Line) Underground: Upminster (District Line) Private Transport: If you re coming from the East (Essex/M25) get onto the A13 and proceed past the Ferry Lane exit and we are the next one down the long slip road. If your coming from the West (London/A406) go past the Goresbrook exit and we are the next exit. Page 1 of 5

2 At the roundabout from the East take the first Left, from the West go right and drift into the left hand lane the straight ahead. Follow the road to the 90dge bend, follow the bend onto the estate and Barlow Way in the 2nd proper road on the left, take this turn. At the T junction turn left follow the road to the end and the go into the block of units on the right. Look for our banner! There are Car Parking facilities on site. ADMINISTRATION A 50 deposited will be required to secure your place, via Bank Transfer. Full payment of the outstanding amount is required to be settled 7 days prior to the start of the course. Nightly access to a laptop is recommended as we supply the ICOP and TACS on a memory stick. Although we will provide all necessary equipment we recommend that you wear suitable clothing such as tracksuit bottoms and T/Sweatshirts. The training facility is indoors so layered clothing is advisable. You will also require proof of identity such as Passport, photographic driving licence and/or National Insurance Number. We recommend that you bring food and plenty to drink with you. There is a sandwich van which calls at the unit, however, you may be busy. Basic Tea and Coffee facilities are available. TRAINING What is Industrial Rope Access? The Rope access system is a safe method of working at height where ropes and associated equipment are used to gain access to and from the work place, and to be supported there. The advantage of using rope access methods lies in the safety and speed with which workers can get to or from difficult locations and then carry out their work, often with minimal impact on other operations and the nearby area. Another major benefit is that the combination of the total man-hours and the level of risk for a particular task (man-at-risk hours) is often reduced when compared with other means of access and their associated risks and costs. What is IRATA? The Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA International) includes within its membership operating companies who employ the technicians who have learned their skills from the training companies of the Association. The teaching of the IRATA syllabus enables rope access technicians to progress through three Levels of proficiency, with certification issued at each level. The IRATA technician carries a card that is recognized around the world. Page 2 of 5

3 Rope access technicians are grouped into three technical grades, depending upon their experience and level of assessment as set out in the IRATA International publication Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS). The three technical grades are: Level 1 This is a rope access technician who is able to perform a specified range of rope access tasks under the supervision of a Level 3. Level 2 This is an experienced rope access technician who has Level 1 skills plus more complex rigging, rescue and rope access skills, under the supervision of a Level 3. Level 3 This is a rope access technician who is capable of complete responsibility for rope access safety in work projects; is able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required of Levels 1 and 2; is conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation; has an extensive knowledge of advanced rigging and rescue techniques; holds an appropriate and current first aid certificate and has knowledge of the IRATA training, assessment and certification scheme. TRAINING SYLLABUS Level 1 Rope Access Technician A Level 1 Rope Access Technician shall be capable of performing a limited range of rope access tasks required by his or her employers, under the supervision of an IRATA level 3 rope access technician. He/she is: Responsible for inspections of all his/her own personal rope access equipment; Able to assist in rigging and non-standard operations, under the guidance of a higher grade; Able to undertake a rescue involving descent by him/herself and have a knowledge of hauling systems. NOTE A Level 1 rope access technician is not allowed to supervise others. Level 2 Rope Access Technician A Level 2 Rope Access Technician shall be capable of rigging working ropes, undertaking rescues and performing rope access tasks (under the supervision of an IRATA Level 3 Rope Access Technician). He/she should have some knowledge of legislation, safety requirements and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access. Page 3 of 5

4 Level 3 Rope Access Technician A Level 3 Rope Access Technician shall: Be capable of site supervision for rope access work projects; Be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation; Be able to demonstrate all the skills and knowledge required of Levels 1 and 2; Have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques; Hold an appropriate current first aid certificate, to show that suitable emergency first aid training has been undertaken; Have knowledge of the IRATA certification scheme; Have knowledge of the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme; Be familiar with the contents of the IRATA ICOP. EQUIPMENT All required equipment is supplied. We have a comprehensive range of equipment allowing candidates to explore and employ various applications and alterative devices. All equipment is certificated, inspected and maintained to an extremely high standard and in accordance with IRATA Guidelines.
