3 Introduction This document provides instructions on how to operate the electronic scoreboard, advanced scoring options and displaying sponsor logos. 4 Scoring a Match There are two advanced scoring programs available Solid Cricket 1 and Total Cricket Scorer. Solid Cricket provides an intermediate interface for scoring a match. Scoring can be done ball-by-ball and can also be entered directly. This provides the option of scoring ball-by-ball or simply updating the score at the end of each over. It also allows changes/corrections to be made quickly if the scorecard in Solid Cricket does not match the scorecard of the official scorers. See the section titled Scoring with Solid Cricket for instructions on how to score and operate the scoreboard with Solid Cricket. Total Cricket Scorer provides a sophisticated interface for scoring a match. Total Cricket Scorer (TCS) also provides mycricket integration and can post progress scores to Twitter. TCS is an alternative to live scoring in the mycricket app with the advantage that it removes the need to score twice once for mycricket and once to operate the scoreboard. Using TCS to update mycricket requires an internet connection. Note that TCS can also be used just as a means to operate the scoreboard. Some users who are familiar with TCS may prefer it over Solid Cricket. See the section titled Scoring with Total Cricket Scorer for instructions on how to score and operate the scoreboard with Total Cricket Scorer. 1 Note that the Solid Cricket program is also referred to as Solid Standard Cricket in the Solid Manual. 4

5 Scoring with Solid Cricket Double click the mouse on the Solid Cricket icon to start scoring. Solid Cricket Solid Cricket will open a window similar to the following. 5

6 The following sections describe how to score with Solid Cricket The following descriptions correspond to the numbering on the screenshot above. 1. Click Clear scores to start a new match. 2. Click on a team name in the batting and bowling sections to select the team and players. The following dialog will open:- Select a team by using the dropdown list or clicking on the button and selecting a database. Note that after selecting a team the field will be show as blank, rather than the team you have selected. Select a Grade using the dropdown to filter the players. This is only useful if you know that all players will appear under the grade selected. If unsure then just leave blank. If there are new players to add or a player s grade should be modified then click the Edit players button. See the section Edit Players for instructions on how to add players. Otherwise click the Save button. 6

7 3. The arrow buttons are used to move a player to the correct position in the batting or bowling order. First click on a player then click on the up or down arrow. 4. Click on the down arrow of a player to select a new player for that position in the batting or bowling order. Note that only players filtered by the grade selected will be available. 5. The ticked boxes on the right are used to select the current batters and bowlers. The radio button on the left signifies the batter facing or the bowler bowling. This radio button can also be clicked to change which batter is facing or which bowler is bowling. 6. These buttons are used to save and restore a match. At the end of the day s play the match should be saved so that it can easily be restored for the next day s play. 7. The Starting Values can be set to the values required when an innings is being resumed and a saved match is not available to be restored. The Total Target must be entered so that it can be displayed on the scoreboard when the batting team is chasing the opposition s total. Overs to Bowl can also be entered to allow Solid Cricket to calculate the run rate required by the batting team. 8. The Active display dropdown is used to select the scoreboard layout. 9. Clicking on the small light bulb icon will display a sliding control to the left which allows the brightness of the scoreboard to be adjusted. For daytime conditions the brightness should be set to full by moving the slider to the far right. Only during the evening should it be necessary to reduce the brightness. 10. These buttons are used to record the result of each ball bowled. When the runs scored are not 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 then this requires the batters and bowlers values to be increased manually. For example, if the batter runs a single and then there are four overthrows, click on 1 Run to record that a ball has been bowled and then update the batters runs and bowlers runs by four. 7

8 Clicking this icon in the appropriate button allows additional runs to be scored from an illegal delivery. Also if runs have been scored on a run out. To reverse a score hold down the Ctrl key when clicking the mouse button. The Over +1 and Maiden buttons are only of any real use when not scoring ball-by-ball. 11. To reverse a score hold down the Ctrl key when clicking the mouse button. 12. Click New innings to swap the batting and bowling sides. This also sets the Target value to be the previous innings total plus Click Special messages to open the following window. The Special messages window is used to enter messages to be scrolled across the scoreboard. To enter a message simply type into one of the 8 message fields or click on the dropdown to use a previously entered message. Then click Save special messages. A scoreboard layout which includes a message line (eg: 4_Message) must be selected as the Display screen for the message to be shown on the scoreboard. 14. Clicking the Stop Hotkeys button will stop any animation that is being displayed on the scoreboard. For example, animations might be configured for when a batter scores a duck, a four or a six. 8

9 Edit Players Clicking on Edit players after clicking on a team name will open the following window. Clicking Add new player will open the following window. 9

10 Enter the player s first name and surname. The batting and bowling order can also be entered or left as zero. These fields help sort the players in the correct order when loaded but do not need to be entered here. Once a player is selected in the batting or bowling order their position will be remembered for the next time their team is selected. Scoring with Total Cricket Scorer Double click the mouse on the Total Cricket Scorer (TCS) icon and the Solid Cricket Interface icon to start scoring. Solid Cricket Interface Total Cricket Scorer Both programs run and display windows similar to the following. Consult the TCS documentation for how to create a match and score in TCS. 10

11 Controlling the Scoreboard with the Solid Cricket Interface The Solid Cricket Interface 2 program reads scoring details from TCS and displays them on the scoreboard. All scoring is done in TCS with just a few operations required in Solid Cricket Interface to control what is displayed on the scoreboard The following describes the main features used to control the scoreboard. These are numbered on the screenshot above. 1. The Display screen dropdown is used to select the layout. 2. Target runs must be entered and the Save target button clicked to show the target score for the batting side. This needs to be entered as TCS does not provide a target value. For the 1 st innings of a match this value can be set to blank. Alternatively a scoreboard layout can be used which does not display a target value (eg: 1_Summary_NoTarget). 3. Clicking on the small light bulb icon will display a sliding control to the left which allows the brightness of the scoreboard to be adjusted. For daytime conditions the brightness should be set to full by moving the slider to the far right. Only during the evening should it be necessary to reduce the brightness. 4. 13 mycricket Scoreboard Integration mycricket have promised to provide scoreboard integration sometime in the future, though have not committed to a date. When this integration is available it will no longer be required to score a match twice, once in the mycricket app and also on the laptop in order to operate the scoreboard. Solid Scoreboards will provide software for the laptop which will enable it to receive ball-by-ball updates as they are entered into mycricket by the scorer. Alternatively matches can be scored using Total Cricket Scorer (TCS). TCS can provide live updates to mycricket as well as providing data for the scoreboard. Using TCS does not require a match to be scored twice. See section Scoring with Total Cricket Scorer for further information. 13

14 Displaying Sponsor Logos Sponsors logos can be shown using a program called Solid Game Day Script. Double click the mouse on the Solid Game Day Script icon. Game Day Script The program will run and display the following window in the top right corner of the screen. Note that it is best to turn off the display of the scoring program before running the slideshow by changing the display layout to <No scoreboard layout selected>. If this is not done then any interaction with the scoring window such as clicking on it will display the current scorecard on the scoreboard and the sponsor s logos won t be displayed. Clicking the Sponsors button will run a slideshow of the sponsor s logos on the scoreboard. When the slideshow is running the window will display a Stop ads button. Clicking the Stop Ads button will stop the slideshow immediately. A new display layout should now be selected in the scoring program. 14
