PREP NEWSLETTER Issue February 2019 JP Campout 2019 A fantastic evening was had by all last Friday at the annual JP Camp Out. The children from grades one to three had a wonderful time dancing and playing well into the evening on the school sports fields. The tug of war was especially successful, with one eager board member even getting involved! Congratulations especially to those mums out there who were camping without the dads. I even think they got their tents up first! See you all next year.

The Grade 1s had fun dressing up last week to celebrate the sounds they had learnt in class: s, a, t, p, i and n. They had to guess which sound each person had dressed up to represent, which was very exciting. They also created human graphs to show which letter most children had chosen to dress up for.
Grade 00s created beautiful Valentine Art!
A School where we belong In the spirit of creating a genuine sense of "belonging" in the Prep School, our pupils are placed into crossgrade "buddy" groupings - known as "families" - with our Grade 7s taking the lead in each group. This time, the groups met to create beaded wind chimes together. Each group's wind chime will be hung on our marvellous "Baobab" Tree in the Senior Primary Quad. Thus every child in the Prep will be represented on our tree which is rather special... (Watch this space for pictures of the results! ) With "love" and Valentine s Day in the air this week, it is our hope that through these, and many other opportunities, every Prep child will feel valued as a precious member of our wider Prep School "Family", and that they all "Belong" at Bridge House. We will also be spreading a little "love" by donating the proceeds of our " civvies " day to the Red Cross Children's Hospital fund, as we do every year. Mrs Jenny Wright

according to the Grade 7s, perspective is: - The many ways in which one thing can be seen - An opinion - Never wrong or right but rather determined by your circumstances - A personal point of view A producer or writer has the ability to manipulate the perspective of their audience by the perspective they choose to tell a story from. Perspective in film is manipulated through camera angles and the positioning of characters/props alike. The grade 7s were challenged to manipulate perspective through the lens of their cameras. &ved=0ahukewj80mofjyzbahunimakhtonde4q_auicigb&biw=1600&bih=794#imgrc=ztjpbn hhyz4-cm:

rep Cricket Clinic From the Deputy Head s Desk It s 20h30 and I write this by the glow of the ipad screen. We have all taken to juggling the charging of our devices, adapting the style of lesson presentation, and debating something as simple as whether to take that shower by candlelight in the evening or morning! Yes, ESKOM ( or the lack thereof?) is currently ( oops!) ruling our lives. Yet life goes on, as do the cricket matches, swimming training, music lessons, clubs and general teaching and learning, because we are all CAN DO people! Just this Valentine s Day morning we even went beyond ourselves in our family/buddy groups to focus on ways to cheer up children in the Red Cross Children s Hospital. With our 24th Founders Day celebrations fast approaching, large numbers of our children and parents are preparing for the Bridge House Mile, and it is exciting to note that walking challenges and entertainment have been added to the plans for the day at Boschendal. In the Prep School, we are about to launch our 24 initiative - watch this space, as plans are announced for a whole week of activities! On that note, remember that entry to the Mile(or the shorter swims) closes at the end of next week. Part of my portfolio is to manage the Grade 7 Learning for Life Leadership Challenge. It is so exciting to witness first hand the thought that so many of our pupils have already put into their planning for this challenge. They are required to complete a physical challenge, learn a new skill, undertake school service across the year, offer of their time to community service, and demonstrate their organisational ability by taking on the planning and executing of an organisational project. Over and above these challenges, they must commit to booking and engaging in an interview, keep detailed records across the year, and manage these commitments in tandem with their academic and sport/ extracurricular involvement. This is truly preparation for the real world. The mid-term break beckons: use it well, to catch up on those conversations, or take a walk in nature, or disappear into a good book. See you next week for Term 1: part 2! Kind regards Sandie Parker
Last week our cricketers enjoyed another successful Saturday morning clinic. CRICKET - Groot Draak Games Club U12 T20 Torunament On Friday 8 Febrary 2019 our U12 Boys played in their first T20 match against Groendal. All the boys were very eager, ready for this annual tournament. We won the toss and chose to take the bat. The Bridge House boys scored a massive total of 150 for the loss of 5. Ben Dipnall 25* and Carter Kent 12*. Other mentions are Harry Morgan and Matthew Cordoza, also scoring in the high twenties. Scoring a 150 in 20 overs is very defendable, yet the boys bowled as if we were in trouble! Matthew Cordoza took 3 and both Sam Purchase and Harry Morgan took 2. We beat Groendal by 64 runs. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and it was a wonderful day of cricket.
Monday, 11 Fbruary U13 vs Stellenbosch HUB Our U13 boys came up against a very strong Stellenbosch U13 HUB Cricket team on Monday. Bridge House won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 111 runs in their 20 overs. Sebastien Griffths (36 runs) and Chad Ayford ( 39 runs) were our two top batsmen. Congartulations to Nicholas Reid for receiving his Bridge House U13A BAGGIE cap from his captain Reuben Sendzul. Welcome to the U13A team. Our bowling attack was once again very aggressive and in the first 5 overs we took 5 wickets with William Barclay-Loggie( ), Daniel de Jongh ( ) and Jean Weber ( ). Bridge House won by 20 runs.
U11 vs Stellenbosch HUB On Monday, 11 February 2019 the Bridge House u11a team played against Stellenbosch HUB at Bridge House. After winning the toss, Bridge House elected to bowl first. The blustering wind made for challenging circumstances for batsman and bowler alike. With some untidy bowling, Bridge House had to rely on their superb fielding effort to curb the run rate. Stellenbosch HUB set Bridge House a total of 101 runs for victory, having scored only 45 off the bat. The team got off to a positive start as they put away the bad ball while getting their eye in. Harry Morgan took the attack to the opposition with a number of well-timed strokes and a six over cow s corner. Harry enjoyed support from each of the top order batsmen to reach 47* on the day. Bridge House reached the target in good time to allow for a comfortable win. I encourage the boys to remain hard working, especially on bowling discipline and more aggressive scoring while batting. Despite three good wins, the team will remain humble as we aim to grow from each match. Amadoda, Bridge House! Manne, Bridge House! Tuesday 12 Febraury - U12 T20 vs Wes Eind Primary In the second game for Bridge House in the T20 league, Bridge House won the toss and elected to bat. We scored an even higher total than the previouse game: 174! Top Scorers were Ben Dipnall, Kean Hill and Justin Mills. When it was time to take the ball, the boys performed even better. I asked them not go for wickets but keep the run rate down and try and keep the extras to a minimum. The wicket takers were Kai, Ian, Harry and Sam. We managed to bowl out all the overs but they could only score 68. Wednesday, 13 February - U13B vs Af Louw Primary Bridge House under 13B won the toss and elected to bowl. We saw out the 20 overs and AF Louw only managed to score 84. Top wicket takers were Lampard with 3, Marc with 2 and top bowling was from Araav who kept the runs low and managed to take one wicket. In the second innings the batsmen did an excellent job. Top batsmen were Nick Hammond 19 and Justin Mills 14. Other mentions are Lampard 11* and Carter 5*. We managed to fight back till the last over and chased down the total. For some of the boys it was a first on a turf wicket and the boys showed great sportmanship. The Grade 7s showed great leadership. It was a beautiful game of cricket. U11B vs AF Louw Primary The 11B batted first and did very well whilst the energy was still high. After 20 overs we had made a cool 99 with contributions from Caleb 19, Takunda 9, Oscar 11, with the loss of 5 wickets. We could have easily defended that score; however, we lost concentration and energy and gave the match away the in 19th over. The visitors made a 100 for 5 with Caleb taking 3 wickets and Takunda and Hayden 1 each. We need to order lots of Powerade drinks next time.
