2 On Sunday May 20 th, the Club hosted its first Tea Dance. This was to launch a move to make Godmanchester a Dementia Aware town. Jonno O Callaghan manned the music machines, and with his marvellous collection of vinyl recordings of 1940 and 50 s dance music, couples swirled to the old time favourites. Members, staff, and supporters of the charities provided some wonderful home-made cakes, and the Cambridge Road Co-op came up with tea, coffee, and more cakes and biscuits. A good time, as they say, was had by all. May 19 th 2018 was when the Royal wedding took place. FA cup football match between Chelsea (1) and Manchester United (0) took place too and an Eden Hazard penalty goal won the match for Chelsea. On Saturday, June 2 nd, we hosted our 4 th Bomber Command Veterans Day party. A record number of enthusiasts were expected, with the chance to meet, at the latest count, 14 of these remarkable men.

For 10 you could have two items signed by as many veterans as are able and a chance to have a brief chat with them. Money raised will be shared between RAF, Godmanchester, and other topical charities.

There were a large number of stalls selling memorabilia, books and prints of Second World War interest. Entry was 3, with children under 16 free. They have an amazing list of incredible experiences. 3 were POW's. One was in the camp the night of The Great Escape, one crawled through the snow with a broken leg, one bombed the Tirpitz and Hitler's Alpine Retreat, one was in Churchill's Secret Army, one was there the night of the Dresden raid, one served in WW2, The Berlin Airlift and the Suez Crisis, one took part in the Death march during the winter of 1944/45, one jumped out with a burning parachute and one was there the night 95 aircraft were lost. What men... THERE WILL BE A WRITE UP WITH PICTURES IN THE JUNE NEWSLETTER THE POPULAR COMRADES CLUB QUIZ NIGHT RETURNS On Thursday June 7 th, and then on every first Thursday of the month. Entrance is 1 a head with a maximum of 6 in a team. Lots of general knowledge and not too many specialist questions, complete with a generous scoring system. The winning team and the second team take all the pot, with the winning team getting the lion s share of it. All are welcome, members and non-members alike, and there will be a licensed bar. Doors open at 7.30, and the first question will be at COME AND MEET YOUR LOCAL PCSO Sunday 15th July 12-2pm in the hall at the Comrades Club. Our local PCSO, Shiralee George, is going to be running a pop-up community police station, for any local residents to drop in and talk to her about any local issues e.g parking, anti-social behaviour etc.
