3 WELCOME The Secondary Schools T20 State Challenge is designed to help Education Queensland and Queensland Cricket promote and develop the game of cricket throughout the State. This competition provides male & female Secondary School students the chance to participate in a formal State Wide Cricket Competition while gaining a great experience within their divisions: Intermediate Male Senior Male Intermediate Female The competition offers a shorter format to help more schools participate and limit the amount of travel during knock out stages. We also believe that schools that reach the Conference & State Finals will leave with a memorable experience for their students. 3

8 STAGE BRIEF In previous competitions, there have been problems completing games by the due date. It is crucial that we stick to the dates allocated. Please plan your games to allow for bad weather, exams, other sporting commitments, administrative requirements, etc. If a game can t be played by that date, you must contact your Regional Convenor and it will be up to them as to whether an extension can be granted or if both teams are to forfeit. Once one school or match falls behind, others are then impacted upon. It is also expected that once you commit to this competition you do not forfeit the conference or state final. Each district will have a convenor who takes nominations and organises the Stage 1 district draw. STAGE 1 DISTRICT ROUND ROBINS The State Secondary Schools Competition is now strictly T20 cricket or a modified shorter length if approved by Convenor. The most important aspect is the students enjoy themselves, and the format offers the greatest number of schools the opportunity to participate. Stage 1 offers the Northern Conference regions more time to decide their winners due to factors such as logistics, weather, etc. Schools are encouraged to enter teams in all three divisions Male Senior, Female Intermediate (Grades 10-12), and Male Intermediate (Grades 7-9) to increase depth and provide a pathway for students. The male Independent Schools will playoff in a one day derby between GPS, AIC & TAS, all to be completed at the end of Term 1. The winner of the QGSSSA Competition will be invited to the Southern Conference. *Be aware that following Stages will all be under the T20 format and rules - Cricket Australia Stage 2 T20 Rules for Intermediate Female, and Cricket Australia Stage 3 T20 Rules for Intermediate Male & Senior Male. STAGE 2 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE ZONE DERBY DAYS NORTHERN CONFERENCE schools automatically advance to Stage 3, providing more time to complete Stage 1. The winning SOUTHERN CONFERENCE schools will participate in a derby day match against neighbouring Districts in the Central, North & South Zones to determine who advances to stage 3 Southern Conference Finals. STAGE 3 CONFERENCE FINALS The North & South Conference Finals will each be played at a central venue (if available) containing four grounds. Annual scheduling would be the October pupil free day (Oct 22nd, 2018). Teams may wish to travel on the Sunday if required. STAGE 4 STATE FINAL Once the winning Senior (male) and Intermediate (male & female) schools have been determined from the Northern & Southern Conference Finals they will advance to the State Final. 8

17 SPIRIT OF THE GAME The captains and teachers are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the game as well as within the Laws. According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges of fair and unfair play. The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the responsibility of the captain/ teacher to take action where required. Warming up Leaving the field It is poor behaviour for the whole team to walk over a turf pitch and wicket block prior to the toss. Players should not hit up against pickets; quite simply they break. The toss Batters should leave the field before the fielding team. The fielding team should all be ready to cross the line together not whoever is closest to the gate leaves first. The captain should appoint those that do well, normally the best bowler/bowlers, to cross the line first. Prior to tossing the captains should be dressed in their playing strip and team cap. Both captains should introduce themselves to the umpires/ teachers. The home captain should provide the coin and toss, away captain calls. Coin toss must be done in the middle, not on the sideline. Provide their scorers with a team list. Entering the field Umpires should enter the field first. No player should be warming up on the field as the umpires enter. The captain of the fielding team should enter with their team behind. Batters should be ready to enter the field together after the fielding team Drinks (if required) Players only should take drinks on the field, not coaches, managers or parents. Players must be fully dressed in School playing strip. The batting team should always make sure volunteers/ umpires are provided with drinks. There is no problem with players receiving drinks or bottles from the boundary line as long as play is not delayed. 17
