CANTERBURY JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB Team Manager Guidelines 1. Duty Roster n Team Manager Roles and Responsibilities Prepare a Parent Duty Roster. You will find some parents are happy to be take some roles for the whole season, ie. Trainer, Runner, Goal Umpire. If you are able to source such people, this will obviously make creating a roster much easier. Fixtures are usually advised as follows: Rounds 1 to 4 (These are grading matches for Under 10 to Under 14) Rounds 4 to 7 Rounds 8 to Allow for an even allocation of duties. There are different requirements for U8/9 that affect the rostering of duties. Rostered duties For Home Games Runner (not required for U8/9) 1 person to help set-up of ground if you are first game (U8/9 usually) Trainer Water Carrier Canteen Attendants (2 parents) Boundary Umpire (not required for U8/9) Goal Umpire Timekeeper Ground Manager Interchange/Umpire s Escort Steward (not required for U8/9) Scoreboard Attendant (not required for U8/9) Voting Oranges U8/9 Only: Field Umpire (Hint: try to get a permanent parent volunteer if you can) Full Scores to be entered onto the YJFL website by 5pm on a Sunday (U8/9 record a draw)
For Away Games Runner (not required for U8/9) Trainer Water Carrier Boundary Umpire (not required for U8/9) Goal Umpire Timekeeper Voting Oranges Umpire Escort (not required for U8/9)
2. Rostered Duties Description of Jobs Goal Umpire Must wear white coat and keep score. Runner Must wear approved apparel (ie. yellow bib). Must only remain on the field long enough to deliver 2 messages and then return to coaching area. Runners are not permitted to coach while on the field. Trainer Must wear approved apparel (ie. green bib). Must not coach/give messages to players. Can remain on ground only long enough to treat an injured player or provide drink. Water Carrier Each team is permitted to have 2 water carriers Must wear approved apparel (ie: White bib). Must stand on opposite side of ground to Coaches and must not coach or barrack, or deliver messages. Must only run on ground to provide drinks during a substantial break (ie- when a goal is kicked or a stoppage for injury). Time Keeper Length of Quarters: Under 8 10 minutes Under 9 12 minutes Under 10 to minutes Under minutes Times between Quarters: Under 8/9 5 minute break after each quarter Under 10 to 14 - ¼ time - 4 minutes, ½ time - 12 minutes, ¾ time - 7 minutes. Time On is not generally used, however, the field umpire can instruct the Time Keepers to add time. This includes when the match is held up to remove an injured player from the field or for any other abnormal time lost. Boundary Umpire White shirt and whistle required. Ground Manager Point of contact for visiting team supporters for directions to rooms/bathrooms etc. Keeps an eye on the crowd advises Committee member present/team Manager if feels any supporters becoming aggressive etc.
Umpire Escort/Interchange Steward Dual role. Must be an adult. Ensure the escort is wearing the orange bib as provided. Escort umpire to the centre of the ground at the beginning of the match and at the beginning of the ¾ quarter. He/she is also required to escort the umpire from the ground at ½ time and end of game siren. Provide umpire with a drink at half time. (Collect one from canteen at beginning of game). As interchange steward, record the jumper number of players as they start a quarter on the bench and when they leave and enter the ground for both teams. This ensures 18 players only are on the ground at any one time. Under 8/9/10: Player interchange can only be made at quarter, half and three-quarter times, except in the case of injury. Voting It is a Club Policy that Team Voting (at every level) conforms to these requirements. Voting is based on system. There are to be three voting parties per game. Two are to be from the Coaching staff, (ie. coach, assistant coach, trainer). Each week a rostered parent is required to vote. Best and Fairest votes are for the Best players for each game. Umpire Contact During a Game Only the Team Manager may approach or liaise with Field Umpires during a match.
3. Club Equipment: The Club goes to huge expense each season in replacing lost, stolen and/or mistreated items. Please take responsibility for the equipment issued to your team. Training Balls Ensure somebody is behind the goal posts at training, particularly at the western end at Canterbury Sports Ground. Ensure you have the same number of balls when you start training when you finish. Do not take all of your training balls to every session. It is expected that a couple may get lost, but the issued number is to see you through the whole season. A rubdown with a damp cloth will keep yellow balls clean and visible during the winter months. Ensure all footballs are marked with CJFC and your particular team. Please go over the marking periodically during the season. Match Balls Match balls cost from $16.00 each (synthetic) through to $65.00 each (leather). As per League requirement each team is issued with two match balls. Match balls are only required for home games. Experience dictates that when players are in the rooms, pre and during games, any football is a good football. Players, young ones in particular, do not differentiate between match balls and warm-up balls. This also applies to siblings of players. If they see a football in a bag, they will want to play with it! Suggestions: Ø Ø Other Equipment Jumpers Leave match balls in the car when attending an AWAY game. Secure your team manager bag and do not leave it unattended when playing a HOME game. Please ensure all equipment is named with CJFC and the team/age-group. The Committee have tried to do this to all equipment, however, it is inevitable that some items may not have been named. Team Managers are issued with enough jumpers to cater for the players in their team. With U8/9, spares are issued to cater for the evening-up of players. These Jumpers must not be given to siblings. It is very important to take note of all jumpers and which players they are allocated to at the beginning of the Season. This will make it easier to collect them at the end of the Season, plus you will need these details to enter your Team Sheets each week. Team Jumpers must be returned to the Club in a CLEAN AND GOOD condition at the end of the Season.
4. Match Paperwork Requirements Team Sheet Team Sheet Creation Online Select your Players by going to YJFL website, you will need to have their jumper numbers handy & your roster to ensure you can enter all the correct information. Note your team selection will be remembered for the following round matches. You must also edit the list each week if players are injured, sick, move from one team to another, etc. If you need to amend the team sheet after the game it must be done online by 5pm Monday to ensure players game counts are correct on the YJFL website. You may make manual changes (with a pen) on Sunday prior to the game starting if players/officials change, as long as you then update these on-line on Monday. Print out two copies of the team sheet One copy is to be signed by the players and both copies passed to the Umpire(s) before half time (U8/9 do not need to hand copy to Umpire but need to keep for the Season in order to check game counts if necessary). The second copy is the Club s copy and includes a note of any changes made. Please keep these in your folder. If you are the home team you need to enter scores onto the YJFL website by 5pm Sunday. This can be done through enter scores on the YJFL website (not applicable for U8/9). Goal kickers also needs to be entered for your own team each week. After the game collect Goal Umpire / Timekeeper Cards and keep with team sheet. (not U8/9). These are given to the field umpire at the end of the game. Interchange / Record of Players Sent Off the Field (used for home games only, not U8/9). These MUST be passed to the Umpire who sends to the YJFL along with the original Team Sheet. B&F Voting Sheets collect from the Coach, Assistant Coach and rostered parent put into an envelope and keep till the end of season. Ensure Encouragement Awards are given out after each match by the Coach. Please note these are a great way to reward players during the Season, usually they are awarded to one player, occasionally two for the week. Anymore than this per week is probably excessive. Keep a record of these awards so that you ensure every player receives one during the Season.
5. Match Day Procedures Collect your bag of snakes from the canteen at Canterbury Sports Ground Be at the match at least a half hour before the game starts. Opposition team manager must sign team sheet before players. Ensure all team members sign the team sheet. PLAYERS MUST SIGN THEIR OWN NAMES. Approximately 15 minutes before start time, the Field Umpire (including the appointed U8/9 umpire) will accompany the home side captain into the visitor s room for the purpose of tossing the coin for the choice of ends. Player s boots will be checked by the field umpire prior to the match. Ensure rostered parents are given all equipment and understand the role they are filling. Introduce yourself and the Umpire s Escort to the Umpire. Ensure the Escort is wearing the required orange bib. (Not applicable to U8/9). Give the umpire a match ball. (home games only) The trainer and runner take first aid kit and drink bottles to the bench area. Team Managers are not allowed on the bench (coaches area) during the match. Only four people (Coach, Assistant Coach, Runner and Trainer) are allowed in this area. Water Carriers must remain on the opposite side of the ground and are not to run Coaches messages onto the Ground. The League has very strict rules regarding the space around coaches areas. At Canterbury Sports Ground, the Coach s bench is to be located on the southern side. At Gordon Barnard Reserve, the Coach s bench is to be located on the eastern side. At half time, take signed Team Sheet to the umpire (not U8/9). Issue lollies to players. Encourage fluid intake by players at each break. Check for injuries. At final siren, collect signed paperwork from Goal Umpire, Timekeeper and Interchange Steward (not U8/9) Give Scorecards and Interchange Sheet to the Umpire, sign the team sheet and retrieve your copy. If playing at Canterbury Sports Ground, or Gordon Barnard Reserve you are the home team and therefore must enter the scores onto the YJFL website by 5pm. Collect the votes and place in a sealed envelope. Make sure all equipment is returned from rostered parents. The coach should issue an Encouragement Award to a player.
6. Team Expenses Pie/Pizza Nights All Teams are allocated one Club Funded event per season. This may include a Jumper Presentation Night, Pie/Pizza Night (pies, donuts and a drink), etc. The maximum amount the Club will provide towards this function is $ per team. Club funded events are for players and team officials. Teams are to fund the event and then submit receipts for reimbursement. No Canteen stock may be used for these functions. Please advise the Secretary of your requested date so that availability of the rooms is guaranteed. Team Expenses No purchases for individual teams may be purchased unless agreed to prior by the Committee. The Club provides half-time lollies for each team. These are bought in bulk and are available from the Canteen on Sunday mornings. Team members are to provide their own drinks and drink containers.
