PRESIDENT S REPORT Richard Petrie President, Karori Cricket Club Inc. Times have changed. We better get used to change because there is more in the wind. Our esteemed Senior Club Chairman David Templeton who was the heart of the committee is stepping down after three years of service. David was the driving force in changing the clubs culture into the One Club philosophy. David re-established relationships with Karori Football and directed all projects the committee ran around fundraising, social events, high performance and club management. Thanks to David for your leadership and focus it was great to work with you. You ll be missed. Other changes were Dave Castle running the new Cricket Development Officer role. Dave is a hugely enthusiastic student of cricket and running a club and the club was a better place because of his skill and personality. We had two new overseas players in Jordan Taylor (UK) and Alecz Day (Australia). Both players had very good seasons and gave the changing rooms a more professional edge. The Firebirds were absent for most of the season. Towards the end of the year the Prems had an influx of four Auckland under 19 rep players now studying at Victoria. The top team will be a tough to make in , which means the team that takes the field will once again be feared. Alan Isaac Champions were the Matt Atkin led reserve. Scott McCallum led his P&G team to a second successive title with the imposing Kelvin Giles averaging over 100 and bullying all those who dared bow anything but the perfect length. Let s not be satisfied with where we are now let s make the best ever. See you next season Richard Petrie
KJCC Committee Report Membership and Performance The committee has much pleasure in reporting on another successful year on a number of fronts for the Karori Junior Cricket Club (KJCC). This year the Club fielded 18 teams in the Wellington competition. In addition we had a pleasing turnout of 20 children enrolled in the Have-A-Go programme for beginners. Total membership this season was 193, down from 245 in the previous season. This was largely due to a poor conversion of Have-a-Go players to year 2 entry level teams, and a drop off of year 4 players moving to first year hard-ball cricket. There was also some player drift in the older grades, a national trend as other sporting codes and activities continue to compete with player commitment to cricket. With 20 newcomers in the Have-a-Go programme this season, numbers are still healthy for the future of the club. In the coming season we are planning a stronger recruitment programme into the schools to boost Have-a-Go numbers, and trade on the retained interest in cricket following the World Cup and the England tour. Girl s cricket remains a challenge in the club and we were unable to field a girls only team, with players once again allocated to mixed teams. It remains our intention to grow female player numbers in the club and attract sufficient numbers to field an all-girls team of similar ages in a Saturday competition. The girl s academy with Cricket Wellington was an excellent initiative this season and our players attending enjoyed it immensely. We hope these types of initiatives continue as we continue to work on attracting female players to the club. We were unable to field a team in this year s Stu Cater Memorial Trophy match due to the timing of this tournament and conflicting with a major football tournament that removed a significant number of players from our eligible teams. This tournament was also organised by the Onslow Club with short notice, and added to our availability issue. Many teams took part in various regional age group tournaments with some good results being achieved and we thank coaches and parents for giving their time to assist. Administration The Club of course relies heavily on the committee to perform the necessary club and member functions and we have been very fortunate over the years to have the commitment and support of local parents. We have an excellent culture of working together for the betterment of the junior club and long may that continue. KJCC Management Committee; Yoel Samson (Treasurer), Mike Colson (Secretary), Jonathan Schubert, Steve Rodgers, Mike McArdle, Mandar Kulkarni, Craig Hercus, Scott McCallum, Matt Sheppard. As Chairman I d like to extend my sincere thanks to our hard-working committee, who have combined well together to ensure the smooth running of the club and that membership satisfaction is maintained at a very high standard. There are also many non-committee people who contribute a great deal to the smooth running of the Club. This includes coaches, conveners and parents who we are always indebted to for their time and effort. Secretary Mike Colson has resigned from the committee with his son Tom heading off to Wellington College. On behalf of the committee I d like to thank Mike very much for his hard work and support during his time with the Club and on the committee. Mike s been a
committed coach through the grades and in his last full season coached the Prems. With Mike s departure we ll be electing a new secretary at the up-coming AGM. Another committee member signaling his retirement is Treasurer Yoel Samson. Yoel is Treasurer for both the Junior and Senior Karori Cricket Clubs and has done an outstanding job with our finances for a number of years. Yoel will still be involved with the Senior Club as Treasurer, with the plan of a first half season hand-over to a new Junior Club Treasurer to be elected at the AGM. Coaching Every year we are indebted to the many coaches who give up their time for practices and on match days. The effort that is put in by coaches, some of whom have little playing experience in the game themselves, is much appreciated. The game of cricket is not easily taught and the skills that the children of our club are exhibiting are a credit to those who put the time in to coaching our teams. Our special thanks to all of those people. This was the second season of our Club Development Officer (CDO) joint venture with Cricket Wellington. Dave Castle was appointed to this role with the objective to provide coaching to both the junior and senior club, and assist in the administration of the Club in the development of players and cricket in general. Dave performed well in his first season and relations between the two committees have been excellent under the One Club structure. The Club has re-appointed Dave Castle as CDO for next season and we look forward to working with Dave once again in the development of Karori Junior Cricket. Sponsorship and Grants Grants and Sponsorship funding is a vital part of the Club s financial position. We would like to thank the following charities for their generous support and we look forward to our continued association next season. NZ Community Trust provided community funding from gaming proceeds for cricket gear. Four Winds Foundation provided community funding from gaming proceeds for cricket gear. The Lion Foundation provided community funding from gaming proceeds for apparel.
Infinity Foundation provided community funding from gaming proceeds for apparel purchases. This year we did not extend team sponsorship as a fund raising option. The committee felt the return on effort vs cost was marginal. The Club funded a Club shirt for the all teams in conjunction with the One Club plan with the purpose of having a clear Karori Club brand on display for all club teams. We were also appreciative of the financial support we received again this year from New World Karori and Karori Unichem Pharmacy. Revenue from grants was a key focus this year and we were successful in increasing our grants this season. This ensured that we continued to improve our equipment, and enabled us to invest in new club shirts and caps for all teams. The Committee thanks Matt Sheppard for his outstanding work on our grant funding. We were also appreciative of the financial support we received again this year from Cooke Family via the Phil Cooke Memorial Trophy award for Junior Club Player of the Year. Financial We are pleased to report that the Club has finished the season in solid financial position as a result of a focus on our grant sources and being prudent with our expenses. Of note we continued to invest in the future including a further upgrade the net facilities at Campbell St. Treasurer Yoel Samson s financial report follows.

Cricket World Cup The Cricket World Cup will long be remembered as a fantastic event, marked by the performance of the Black Caps on home soil. The season highlight for our year 3 and 4 players was the opportunity to be Anthem kids for the Black Caps quarter final against the West Indies at Westpac Stadium. Thirty of our junior players escorted their heroes onto the stadium for the national anthems with extensive media coverage. Looking ahead There are many challenges and opportunities ahead. As mentioned, membership and retention of players is an important and on-going issue as youngsters come up against the distractions of other modern day interests. There is increased competition from other summer codes which makes it important that KJCC strives to not only provide good facilities and opportunities for young cricketers but also ensure the game is the summer sport of choice. The Club continues to invest in resources as mentioned above. To continue this we are reliant on a healthy membership and continued support from charities, sponsors, businesses, families and friends of KJCC. As always we welcome any input and help that members may be able to provide in ensuring we have a strong club going forward. Finally thanks to all member families and friends of KJCC - we look forward to your continued association and support in the seasons ahead. Rhys Nimmo - KJCC Chairman
