The club slows down, the foums pickup because people ae indoos and events ae held in some weathe nothing shot of teible! Howeve the seasons ae almost flicking ove to some decent weathe and a whole swag of sunshine (well, hopefully) Taking cold chilly weathe into consideation, we ve had some vey successful events. The ecent OMG I ve got my ca back GOR un was excellent even though it ained shotly afte lunch, and also some othe events which membes attended as you ll see late on. Also since the last newslette we have made some subtle additions to the club. Thee is now functionality fo online membeship foms, and also we ae looking into being able to take cedit cad and othe types of payments fo enewal/ events and othe things to make life easie again fo all of you out thee and in tun make life easie fo committee membes. Also we have go-kats sessions stating up, but moe on that fom AP late in the piece. Of late also we ve been having some sensational Guest Speakes at the geneal meetings. Some eps fom Shell came out to talk about V-Powe Racing, I honestly thought amid the fai baage of questions they eceived fom the oom (you e a had man to please Ant), it was a geat discussion by all. Eveshine & Wateless ca wash was also inteesting with wate estictions and so on. Incidentally we have a $90 pack as doo pize fom a much appeciated donation, so I uge membes to come along to Geneal Meetings, 3d Tues of evey month. Some of you may have also noticed my abense fom the club meetings and this has been due to my wok commitments. I m tavelling between WA, QLD, NZ quite often and this doesn t look like letting up any time soon. It s with geat excitment that Chis and Min announce the bith of Pitcew #1, Ryde Aon Thompson, bon on the 2nd of July We all wish them the best of luck and health. Chis is umoued to be investigating the legality of using a 5 yea old as navigato fo Taga Tasmania 2013, appaently they ae supe light weight! Eveshine - Wateless Ca Cae Eveshine was ou guest speake at last months meeting. They povided a vey inteesting in sight into washing cas without wate. In this day and age wate is becoming moe scace and who knows what the futue might hold. Come on... Championship Round - Mowell 11/10/08 It neve stops amazing me that despite getting up at 5:30am evey day duing the week to get to wok, getting up at that time on a Satuday is just ciminal! Then I emembe that I m about to tack my ca and that, combined with my moning coffee, makes me feel a lot bette. I ended up leaving my house (Bentleigh) aound the 6:20am mak in ode to be thee befoe 8am. With vey few people on the oad, I made good pogess, and ended up aiving at 7:45am using the diections Bec posted up in the thead. The only complaint being that diving along the pincess hwy at that time of the moning you ae diving diectly towads the sun coming up which povided a few blinding moments. Due to limited intenet access at the moment (thanks Telsta) I hadn t seen the video footage on youtube, and had only seen the new hillclimb fom a couple of pics aound the place. The ca pa k /pits aea is located ight on the top of a hill and, once I was out of the ca, I had a geat view ove most of the hillclimb. What a sight! Not only did it look tight and technical but the elevation change was a welcome sight as it is missing fom most Victoian cicuits. By the time I had unpacked the ca most of the SAU boys & gils had aived Ryan (Belsil80), Jaod (R32Big boy), Bec, Achie, Ben (thebuzz), Chis Stacey and, of couse, the Datto boys amongst othes. Once signed in and scutineeed we wee given the chance to do a sighting lap of the hillclimb. Main easons fo this was that most of us had neve been thee and also the mino point that this hillclimb has claimed a fai shae of cas.but moe on this late. Jaod jumped in the passenge seat fo the sighting lap and off we went. Compaing this to the old Mowell hillclimb is like compaing the RB26 to the SR20 two vey diffeent things (soy couldn t esist). 3 Issue #9 :: Ap 06 is a mix of elevation change, on and off cambe cones, cests and blind cones making fo a vey fun dive. The suface is smooth with good kebs (albeit a little slippey) although thee wee a few pats whee ain un-off had left a bit of dit acoss the tack. Back to the claimed cas. thee is one cone that has been named Oh Shit - and fo good eason as most of the big accidents happened hee (including one R34 GTR vspec that ended up on its oof on the sighting lap no less!). You come aound a left hand - 2nd gea cone, which exits and staightens up ove a cest. Right on the cest, the tack kinks ight and then its down into what can only be descibed as a olle coaste dip which leads into an uphill tight ight hand cone. Basically fom what I imagine has happened to these cas is that the dive has been pushing ove the cest, they ve seen the dip/upcoming cone, and ealized that they ae caying too much speed. The dive has then hit the bakes while the ca is still going though the kink which has then sent the ca into a spin this is faily evident by the skid/tye maks in the gass on the left hand side of the tack leading into a tye baie. To wan dives of this upcoming section the oganizes of this event placed a sign just befoe the cest which simply ead $$ no explanation needed! Afte the usual dive biefing which included a eminde about Oh Shit cone it was time to stat timed laps. Neve one to be shy of making an entance, Matt (GTTR34) picked now to tun up afte sleeping in. As cas wee being eleased one at a time, the ode was decided by ca numbe. As my numbe was 33, I watched a few cas go though the couse. Anothe benefit of the elevation change is that spectatos get a geat view of the hillclimb fom next to the capak. In some locations you can almost see the whole un. It was easy to see who had been hee befoe and who hadn t, as those who hadn t hesitated using the loud pedal a lot moe. On such a tight and technical couse the well soted Evo s and WRX s wee going to be had to beat and at the end of the day it was an Evo (I think 8) that took the honous with a My fist un was a 1:04.38 but got faste and faste with each un and ended with a best of which was good enough fo 10th place. It was also good enough fo me to claim fastest GTR time at Mowell, a claim that I ll hold onto until Chis (Scotsman) o one of the othe well modded GTR s gets a chance to do the new hillclimb. I also had a geat battle with Ryan (Belsil80) in the aftenoon as you can see by the esults sheet- my 4th un was a 1:00.07 which Ryan poceeded to match on his 5th un, I then beat that on my 5th un with a which I figued was going to be enough but Ryan pulled one out of the bag on his 6th un to post Vic-spec VicSpec :: :: SAU SAU Victoia Club Club Newslette :: Issue :: Issue #9 Apil :: 1506Sep 2008 page 3

4 Issue #9 :: Ap 06 a so much fo me elaxing the est of the avo! The ol GTR vs Sil80 agument was at stake hee, so I wasn t going to go down without a fight. To quote Clakson, I took my bave pills, added a few moe evs on the stat line and went fo it. Despite putting two wheels on the dit duing a little off tack excusion I managed a which Ryan couldn t match and the ol agument was settled. Inteestingly, I went out on my last un thinking I m not going to go as had as I did on the lap, didn t have any moments, and ended up with a which just poves that you best can be achieved when you aen t actually going fo it smooth, clean diving is the key. A big thanks to the oganizes and voluntees on the day which helped the day un smoothly and without incident. Futhe to that, congats to all who dove on the day, as noone dove outside of thei limits. I hea umous that SAU is thinking of hiing Mowell fo an event and I d highly ecommend that they do. Anthony (Ant97GTR) Event Reviews Massive Midnight Cuise Fiday, 13th of June 2008 As it tuned out this yea we an the Midnight Cuise on Fiday the 13th (BLACK FRIDAY) And tue to its name the day stated of black with ain clouds and heavy ain fo most of the day. But I had my finges cossed that by night the ain would have passed and I did. The night stated off at Pakenham Autoban ca pak. The meet time was set fo 8.30 with A 9.15 depat. A few people wee feaked out they had to dive all the way to Pakenham to the meet point saying it was like a cuise in its self just getting thee. But it had to stat somewhee.. On the way Pakenham I said to my dive fo the night Leon (achoo) that I didn t think we would get a stong tun out due to the weathe that day. But when I got to the Autoban ca pak thee wee aleady 10 cas thee and they just flowed in afte that. So afte I had maked off evey one we had 29 cas 34 membes had tuned up 4 new guys joined up and with mates and gilfiends coming along fo a ide we had aound 50 people Fantastic. Well 9.15 came and we wee on ou way. We headed up fom Pakenham in to the hills going up in to Pakenham Uppe and Mt Bunett then in to Cockatoo heading up Woi Yallock d till we got to the Wabuton Hwy. Tuning left we pulled ove to e goup befoe the tunoff in to Gembook Launching Place d. Gembook Launching place d is ace vey twisty and in some places naow but still a vey good oad to dive. We followed this oad all the way down to Gembook wee we had ou fist stop. We spent aound 15 min in Gembook chatting. And this is wee we found out about a booze bus set up in Emeald witch was no dama as know one was dinking. We left Gembook heading up Belgave Gembook d in to Emeald wee we past the un manned booze bus with no damas in Emeald we tuned left and went up Monbolk d up some nice twisties up past the Silvan Resevoi at the end of Monbolk d we tuned left on to Swansea d then left on to Mt Dandenong Touist d wee fo those who have been up into the Mt Dandenongs this is a geat oad to dive as well. Once we got to the end of the Mt Dandenong Touist d we wee in Fentee Gully and at the end of the Cuise. I would like to thank all those who came and fo making it a geat night. 5 Issue #9 :: Ap 06 East Meets West meet 20th June, WITH WELL OVER 40 CARS AT THE MAIN MEET POINT AT ALBERT PARK... A Chilly Fiday night in June set the scene fo the fist eve East meets West meet... With both the east and west holding successful meet and geets on a few occasions, the decision to bing the 2 togethe was made. It was anticipated fom the stat that the night would eceive a big tunout, and those attending cetainly ween t disappointed. With well ove 40 cas at the main meet point at Albet Pak, and geat tunouts at both of the pe-meets, thee was a geat atmosphee fom the stat. Afte the espective east/west pe meets, both goups cuised in to the cental meet point at Albet Pak, whee those attending had a chance to catch up with fiends, meet some new faces, and of couse check out the geat vaiety of cas attending. Plenty of the usual Skylines wee on show, including some high poweed examples. Othe cas on the night included a slightly ae Skyline in the V35, silvias an Impeza, a Mecedes and othes. The emainde of the night was spent eating pizza and watching the numeous taffic light dag aces between beat up old Hiluxes and an aay of othe below aveage cas, which povided plenty of amusement. With ove 40 cas attending the main meet at Albet Pak, and aound 20 new SAU Vic membes taking advantage of the discount membeship offe on the night, it was a complete success fo the club. Unfotunately Ash miscalculated the diections and a few people ended up getting lost, howeve most of those that wee heading in fo food eventually found thei way. 6 Issue #9 :: Ap 06 GOR Cuise 23d August, :30am saw a good 20+ cas sitting at the BP Sevo, the usual meet point fo a GOR un. Thee wee a lot of new faces, but then So it was geat to chat to the new comes whee I could, and of couse the old faces that I had not seen fo quite a while. As we set off, a couple of ou new membes unfotunately had to dop fom the cuise due to ca issues, I eally hope you guys wok it out and ae at the next cuise Upon getting close to Apollo Bay, it was appaent that we wee in fo a mino change in the weathe, and by mino I mean howling winds and ain that was moe inteested in going sideways than falling vetically. its been a good 3 yeas now since I ve eally attended any cuises, let alone un them. (Sandown to Suf) so ya don t miss the action! The usual tip down to Apollo Bay was nothing shot of excellent. The weathe was pefect, the dive was smooth and elatively uninhibited by taffic also which is always a woy going down that way.... TAIL LIGHTS APPEARED IN AND OUT OF FOG PATCHES ACROSS THE MOUNTAIN RIDGE.... But neve to fea the pub put on a geat feast and an hou o so late it was time fo heading back via the Otway Ranges. Now usually this is a sunny/dy dive back. Howeve due to the typical-melboune weathe change it was wet and also vey foggy. These conditions gave a vey eeie feel to the whole aea as ound tail lights appeaed in and out of fog patches acoss the mountain idge. So ove all a eally geat un with some contast in weathe that you would only see hee in Vic.
