2 Newsletter 9 of March 2015 Dear Parents, Mrs Vat, principal of Northlands Girls High School and our electoral officer, has asked me to pass on the message that she was singularly impressed with our staff, our parent body and the smooth execution of the SGB elections. I would like to thank all our parents for their loyal support and for the parents who made up the quorum so that our voting could go ahead as planned. DNPS is indeed a wonderful school. The School Governing Body is now fully constituted as follows Chairperson Mr Nimesh Maharaj Vice-Chairperson Mr Reg Thomas Treasurer Mrs Joyce Perumal Secretary Mrs Nellie Pather Sport Mr Kevin Naicker Building Maintenance and IT Mr Dewy Dewlok Parent Liaison, Discipline, Social and Cultural Matters Mr Lushan Enoch Staff Representative Mr Theegan Govender Principal Mrs Frances Nel Aftercare There are many children who are attending Homework Club classes without enrolling at Aftercare. This is unfair practice especially as our parents are paying for their child s session. Homework Club is a closed session only for those children who are legitimate members of Aftercare. Children who enter the Homework Club classes who are not members of Aftercare will be asked to leave. Aftercare has a day camper rate that parents are welcome to take advantage of. Leaving children in the care of the Security Guard is not an option. Taking care of, and being responsible for the behaviour of children is not part of the Security Guard s job description and not included in our contract. There is a sport offered every afternoon, parents who are unable to enrol their children at Aftercare, but want their child supervised should take advantage of the sport sessions that run from Monday to Thursday between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. Super Swimming Lesson Our Grade R parents came to see their children show off all they have learned in swimming lessons this term. We are very proud of all these little people have achieved and thank our parents for their support. Well done boys and girls. Grade 1 parents have their turn on Thursday. Don t forget Mums and Dads, there is always the invitation for you to participate with your child in the pool when they participate in one of their activities.

Grades 4 to 7 31 st 10:30 March 12:30 Championship Gala (Trials are Lotto Pool being conducted and the strongest team will be selected) Once the Championship Gala has been concluded, children may go home. School will close for all pupils at 12:45. Grade 2 to Grade 7 pupils must ensure that they have their costumes at school ready to swim on the days stipulated by the Coaches. Practice days are written in the Homework Books. Selection for the different galas will be swum off and children who do not attend the practices may not be considered for specific teams.

Donations of clothing and toys are also very welcome. Forms in by 27 th March 2015 Conquesta entry forms must be completed and returned to school by 31 March 2015 Feeble jokes There was a prison break and I saw a midget climb up the fence. As he jumped down he sneered at me and I thought, well that s a little condescending. A magician was walking down the street and turned into a grocery store. 5 10/03 U10 vs Glenashley Prep Score: DNPS 55/4 after 20 overs Glenashley 56/0 after 12 overs Result: Glenashley won by 10 wickets Batting first, our U10 boys struggled at the crease. Our boys couldn t get their shots away and failed to score many runs. Although we didn t lose many wickets the lack of runs were a big issue. Defending a small total is always difficult and our bowlers failed to make an impact on the Glenashley batsmen. The bowlers line and length was not good enough and many extras were conceded. Our U10 boys need just a bit more focus and concentration in order to apply what they have been learning at their coaching sessions. Mistakes are costing the team and an overall improvement is required. Best Batsman: Best Bowler: Samir Dookie 7 runs Keval Jaynarayan 3 overs/4 runs/0 wickets 10/03 U11 vs Glenashley Score: Glenashley 51/4 after 20 overs DNPS 52/0 after 7.2 overs Result: DNPS won by 10 wickets Bowling first, our U11 boys showed good skill in the field. Our bowlers struggled to find the right line and length and many extras were conceded. Our bowlers were fortunate and better performances are required for the rest of the season. Our batsmen made easy work in chasing the low total. The opening batsmen looked comfortable and scored runs quickly. The batsmen have definitely hit form at the right time. Our U11 s continue to impress in their matches. Improvements can be made in the fielding and especially the bowling and the boys will be working hard to improve these areas. 6 12/03 U13 vs Glenashley Score: Glenashley 151/5 after 20 overs DNPS 45/4 after 20 overs Result: Glenashley won by 109 runs This was another disappointing performance from our U13 boys. Poor bowling and terrible fielding led to Glenashley scoring a big total. Our batsmen were never comfortable at the crease and found runs hard to come by. Our U13 boys lack focus and commitment on the field. Our boys are making basic mistakes when fielding simple chances; they re dropping catches, and showing little to no effort on the field. A huge improvement is needed in the attitude of our boys. Best Batsman: Aman Ramlugan 15 runs Best Bowler: Kamil Rooplal 4 overs/37 runs/2 wickets 13/02 Grade 3 Hardball vs Umhlali Prep B Score: Umhlali Prep 58/9 after 20 overs DNPS 59/2 after 8 overs Result: DNPS won by 8 wickets The Grade 3 bowlers started off well and managed to make regular breakthroughs as well as restrict the Umhlali scoring rate. A lot of extras were conceded however and further work needs to be done with the bowlers. Our batsmen rarely looked troubled and reached the target score with lots of wickets and overs to spare. Every boy had a chance to experience what it is like batting in the middle, and they all enjoyed the opportunity given to them. Our Grade 3 boys have had a fantastic season, winning all their matches. They have played well and have improved every week. Well done to the boys and we hope they go from strength to strength as the rest of the sports year continues.
