2 Welcome Scotch vs Hale

3 Basketball Scotch College vs Hale Result: 1sts Hale defeated Scotch Comment: The Scotch team started this game versus Hale in the wrong frame of mind. The tentative and nervous approach was seized upon by the aggressive and confident Hale team. The first quarter saw Hale pile on the points and take a very dominant lead into the first break. To Scotch's credit the second quarter saw them respond and they managed to claw their way back into the game. The third quarter, turned into an arm wrestle, but the Hale team managed to hold onto a 10-point lead going into the third quarter break. The final quarter of the game had the Scotch team fight back hard, but a costly first quarter finally came back to haunt the boys as Hale ran away with a 12 point victory. The Scotch team did not play team basketball, but a stand out game from Daniel Abimibola as he stood strong and defiant during the entire game.

4 Cricket Scotch College vs Hale 1sts Result: Aquinas 10/240 & 7/232 defeated Scotch 6/221 & 10/158 Comment: Scotch won the toss and bowled to begin the annual 3 day game vs Aquinas. Wickets were difficult to come by throughout the day however after 90 overs Scotch was restricted to 240. After losing an early wicket over night Scotch batted well on the second day largely led by Declan Hardisty and Hamish Mckenzie who made 74 and 40 respectively. Scotch declared just before tea on 221, 19 runs behind. Aquinas batted positively on the 3 rd morning, despite being 2/15 early. Steady runs meant Aquinas batted Scotch out of the game. Scotch attempted to bat for the draw butt failed losing by just over 100 runs. Some positive signs being shown by the boys, we now look forward to the Sydney Cricket Tour in late January.

5 Cricket 7A s Result: Hale 4/89 defeated Scotch 8/50 Comment: Scotch won the toss and sent hale into bat. At the end of 20 over Hale were 4 for 89. Lincoln Allen bowled very well taking 2 for 2 off 3 overs. This means he has taken 5 for 2 over the past two weeks. Scotch struggled against some very good Hale bowling and could only manage 8 for 50 off their 20 overs. Hale's bowling attack was the best Scotch have faced all season and were extremely hard to put away for runs. Some silly run outs did not help however ben Gale scored a very good 17 not out at the end. Well done boys on a great season and hope to see you next season.

6 Tennis Scotch College vs Hale 1sts Result: Scotch 18 defeated Hale 6 Comment: Our final rubber for the season was against Hale the current W.R. Corr Cup holder. We were missing our #1 and #4 through injury, which meant all players had to move up 1 or 2 rankings. Ben Webster playing at #1 got us off to a great start winning his two sets decisively 6 0, 6 1. Harry Burrell continued the trend winning 6 1, 6 2, playing two places above his rank. Simon Ferreira played with tenacity to win his singles 7 5, 7 5 and later his doubles with Harry, 7 5, 7 5. Ben Mahon and Elliott Buzza won their doubles 6 4, 7 5. Scotch ran out winners 18 sets to 6 and remained undefeated throughout the season. 8C Result: Scotch 92 defeated Hale 55 Comment: The Scotch 8C boys were on a run of four consecutive wins prior to Friday's game against Hale, and they were focused on making it five in a row to end the term. Although the Hale boys got off to a good start, winning most of the early games, Scotch rebounded excellently winning overall, a comfortable victory. Victory was even more rewarding when

7 Tennis the boys and I looked at the scorecard to see that everyone had won their games, albeit in very close circumstances. Lachie and Frans won their doubles 6-5; Charlie and Ethan 7-6; Paul won his singles 7-5, Carson 7-6, and Seb and Josh' doubles match ended 5-4. It was incredibly rewarding to see how much the boys have improved over semester, with boys such as Carson and Lachie playing for the first time and ending the year in the top 5 players, and winning their last four games each. Special mention must also go to Josh who is going home to Canada and played his last match for Scotch. He won his Singles 6-2, 1-0 and as previously alluded to, his doubles 5-4 8A Result: Hale 88 defeated Scotch 81 Comment: The 8A Tennis team had their final match of the season against Hale on the fantastic grass courts at Scotch College on Friday. Hale were undefeated heading into the match and the Scotch boys were keen to test their skills against the strong opposition. The matches were played in very good spirits and Scotch fell just short of defeating Hale; losing 81 games to 88 games. I would like to thank the boys for a wonderful season and for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and great manners. They have been fantastic ambassadors for the College all season and I look forward to closely watching their future tennis development.

8 Water Polo Scotch College vs Hale 1sts Result: Scotch 14 defeated Hale 10 Comment: Scotch College started the game a little disorganised and did not follow the game plan. We were lucky to be down only 3-2 at quarter time. Throughout the second quarter our defense was tight and Harry Adler kept us in the contest with some great saves. We began to move more in our attack but we could not find the back of the net even with some great opportunities. Hale led 5-2 at half time but we felt we were still in the contest. The third quarter started very poorly for us and Hale led 9-4 with 3 minutes left in the quarter. There was a flurry of goals in the final 3 minutes of the quarter and Scotch College went on a 4-1 run. This built our momentum and we felt in the contest at three-quarter time despite being down We carried this momentum into the final quarter and we won the quarter 6-0 with 5 different goal scorers. Scotch College won the game due to players keeping their cool and sticking to the game plan practiced at training over the last 2 weeks. It was a pleasing win against a quality opposition but it counts for little if we can t replicate it in Term 1 next year when it counts. For the time being though it was nice to be the first team to beat the Hale School 1sts at their new pool. Scotch Goals Tom Prior 6 Toby Muir 3

10 Volleyball Scotch College vs Hale 1sts Result: Scotch 3 defeated Hale 0 Comment: The boys put together a performance that they can be very proud of. As is often the case, the foundation for the win was set with a very good hitting warm-up, that appeared to intimidate Hale somewhat and lead to them having a very shakey start to the match. The Scotch boys, began confidently and built an unassailable lead in the set which allowed them to take an early 1-0 lead in the set scores. Hale rallied in the second set, but a very good defensive effort, saw our boys making a number of saves which kept us in rallies that looked to be over. This again appeared to break Hale late in the second set as they had thrown everything they had at us, but hadn't seen a return from it. Set 3, was a tight set. Scotch unfortunately allowed a little complacecy into the match and were guilty of attacking balls that best be played in a more conservative manner. This increased the error rate allowing Hale to take some easy points off us rather than making them earn them as we had in the first 2 sets. Very pleasingly, in the back end of the set with scores pretty even, the Scotch boys very impressively took control of the match. Closing points when the opportunities presented and forcing pressure on Hale at the serve receive. Best performance for the year.
