3 2.1 DURATION OF MATCHES Scheduled Play Matches shall be two day s scheduled duration Scheduled Fixture of Matches A scheduled fixture of matches for the season for each particular grade shall be arranged and approved by the CAW Board Change of Scheduled Fixture If a ground becomes unavailable or unusable, the CAW Board has the right to move the match if possible to another venue, otherwise the game will be declared a Draw. 2.2 HOURS OF PLAY AND INTERVALS All first grade matches will commence at 1pm. All second grade matches will commence at 1.30pm All C Grade matches will commence at 1.30pm Tea interval from 3.15pm to 3.35pm. Afternoon session 3.35pm to completion of Overs. Drinks breaks 5 minutes maximum. 2.3 CONDITIONS OF A DAY S PLAY Overs and Innings (a) (i) Provincial Competition A scheduled uninterrupted days play for Provincial 1st Grade shall consist of 80 overs. A scheduled uninterrupted days play for Provincial 2nd Grade shall consist of 72 overs Note: An uninterrupted day s play means there has been no loss of time, and or change of innings through dismissal or declaration. (ii) Where the team batting first declares or is dismissed prior to the close of play, the team batting second shall receive: The overs remaining on the first day, less 3 overs for change of innings, and the full allocation of overs on the second day. 3 rd and 4 th innings are permitted when overs allow. With every change of innings, you must deduct 3 overs from the remaining overs unless the change of innings is done at the tea interval, or during an unscheduled interruption, then no overs will be deducted. (iii) In Provincial 1st Grade the batting side is entitled to 80 overs in an uninterrupted days play. In Provincial 2nd Grade the batting side is entitled to 72 overs in an uninterrupted days play. 3

4 (b) (i) District Competition - A scheduled uninterrupted day s play shall consist of 70 overs. Note: An uninterrupted day s play means there has been no loss of time, and or change of innings through dismissal or declaration. (ii) Where the team batting first declares or is dismissed prior to 70 overs (close of play), the team batting second shall receive: The overs remaining on the first day, less 3 overs for change of innings, and a further 70 overs on the second day. 3 rd and 4 th innings are permitted when overs allow. With every change of innings, you must deduct 3 overs from the remaining overs unless the change of innings is done at the tea interval, or during an unscheduled interruption, then no overs will be deducted. (iii) The batting side is entitled to 70 overs in an uninterrupted day s play. (c) (i) C Grade Div 1 - A scheduled uninterrupted day s play shall consist of 60 overs. Note: An uninterrupted day s play means there has been no loss of time, and or change of innings through dismissal or declaration. (ii) Where the team batting first declares or is dismissed prior to 60 overs (close of play), the team batting second shall receive: The overs remaining on the first day, less 3 overs for change of innings, and a further 60 overs on the second day. 3 rd and 4 th innings are permitted when overs allow. With every change of innings, you must deduct 3 overs from the remaining overs unless the change of innings is done at the tea interval, or during an unscheduled interruption, then no overs will be deducted. (iii) The batting side is entitled to 60 overs in an uninterrupted day s play Commencement of Play in CAW Two Day Pennant Matches The CAW Pennant Committee has the right to call any, or all two day games off before 11am on the first day of a two day match. Those games will be played as a one day Pennant Match the following week. Note: This rule applies for two day matches through the season. It does NOT apply to any final matches. 4

5 2.3.3 Adverse Ground/Pitch Conditions where 60 minutes or less of play is lost in any day s play during the season. (a) Where 60 minutes or less is lost in total due to adverse ground/pitch, weather or light conditions prior to commencement or during any day s play, then play will be extended by the amount of time lost and the scheduled overs for the day will be completed. (Re: Para 2.3.1(a) (b) and (c). (b) Where the team batting first completes its innings other than by compulsory closure, the team batting second shall receive any overs remaining on the first day, minus 3 overs for a change of innings, plus the scheduled number of overs on the second day. (c) Where 60 minutes or less in total is lost on the second day only, the match shall continue until the required number of overs are delivered or a result is achieved, whichever comes first, unless both Captains agree to continue Adverse ground/pitch where more than 60 minutes of play is lost on the first day s play during the season. (a) If greater than 60 minutes is lost, the side batting first shall be entitled to half the calculated rescheduled number of overs available over the two days. Eg: Total available overs without interruption is 160 (80 x 2). 90 minutes are lost, less the 60 minutes of extended time. = 30 minutes lost = 8 overs (1 Over = 3.75min or 4 Overs = 15min) Total overs now available = Total overs remaining = 152 (76 x 2) Overs are rounded down to an even number. The match now becomes a 76 over game. (Unless (b) below occurs) (b) Where the team batting first completes its innings other than by compulsory closure, the team batting second shall receive any overs remaining on the first day, minus 3 overs for a change of innings, plus the rescheduled number of overs on the second day (c) Where no time is lost on the second day of a reduced over match, compulsory closure will occur when the rescheduled number of overs determined on the first day is reached, regardless of whether or not the team batting second has commenced their innings on the first day. (d) Where more than 120 minutes are lost in total due to adverse ground/pitch, weather or light conditions prior to commencement of the match, or during the first day s play, the match shall revert to ordinary conditions. Refer to PC (a), (b) and (c) (e) Where more than 120 minutes are lost in total due to adverse ground/pitch, weather or light conditions prior to commencement of or during the second day s play, the match shall revert to ordinary conditions as per the laws of cricket. ie: no compulsory closures. Should a result not be able to be achieved in the overs remaining, the match will be determined a draw. 5

Should a result not be able to be achieved in the overs remaining, the match will be determined a draw. Note: The highest ranking side of that final will be declared the winner. (b) Where more than 120 minutes are lost in total due to adverse ground/pitch, weather or light conditions prior to commencement of, or during the second day s play, the match shall revert to ordinary conditions as per the laws of cricket. ie: no compulsory closures. Should a result not be able to be achieved in the overs remaining, the match will be determined a draw. Note: The highest ranking side of that final will be declared the winner. 6

7 2.3.7 Over Rate The CAW Board expects Clubs to play an average of at least 16 overs per hour, with the exception of: When an authorized medical personnel is required on the ground and/or for a player leaving the field due to serious injury. A lost/replacement ball and miscellaneous issues. 2.4 TWELVE PLAYERS AND GRADE LEVELS All grades have the option to name 12 players on the Team Sheet, where any 11 can bat, any 11 can bowl per innings and the wicket keeper must be classed as a bowler. Only 11 are allowed on the field at one time and 10 wickets is classed as an innings A player is only permitted to play in one Club side per Pennant round of matches except under PC A player can only drop one Grade at a time and they must play in that Grade before they can drop another level, unless they have missed two consecutive matches in the grade that they are being dropped from. Note CAW BY LAW PREPARATION AND MAINTENANCE OF PLAYING AREA Mowing the Outfield Alter Law 10 (a) The outfield shall be mown at least once in the week leading up to any day s play. (b) Day Two, the outfield shall be at a length comparable to as it was on Day One. (c) In the event of a Two Day Pennant Match occurring on two consecutive days, the outfield is not to be mowed after stumps on Day One or prior to play on Day Two Rolling of the Wicket In the event of a Final being played on consecutive days, with the batting side s Captain s approval, the curator shall roll the wicket for up to 7 minutes between innings during the day and/or up to 15 minutes prior to the start of Day Two. This must be done in front of at least one of the umpires. 2.6 WATERING THE OUTFIELD FOR TWO DAY MATCHES OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS In order that the condition of the outfield can be maintained throughout the duration of a match, oval management/curators must first be granted approval by both Captains and Umpires to water the outfield after the first day s play. Similarly, the oval management/curator may wish to lightly water adjoining pitch under preparation for an upcoming match. Agreement must be reached prior to the commencement of the match before any such watering will be permitted. 7

8 2.7 COVERING THE PITCH Refer to PC and WIDE BALL Law 25.1 will apply with the addition of the following: If in the Umpire s opinion the bowler is attempting to utilize the rough outside of a batter s leg stump, or is bowling down the leg side as a negative tactic, the Umpire will call and signal Wide Ball unless the ball passes sufficiently within the reach of the batsmen for him to be able to hit it with his bat by means of a normal cricket stroke. Refer to Law 25.1 Judging a Wide. 2.9 INNINGS AND RESULTS First Innings and Outright Results Law 13.1 shall apply as modified: A Two Day Pennant Match maybe of two innings per side subject to the provisions of Law 13.2, but may achieve outright or first innings results within the provisions of PC 2.1, 2.2 and The Follow-On Law : 100 runs in a Two Day Match THE RESULT AND MATCH POINTS Match Points (a) For an outright win after leading on the first innings 10 (b) For an outright win after a tie in the first innings 10 (c) For an outright win after being behind on the first innings 6 (d) For a tie where both teams have completed two innings 5 (irrespective of first innings) (e) For a first innings lead (to be retained even if beaten outright) 6 (f) For an outright loss after leading on the first innings 6 (g) For a tie on the first innings (and no outright result) 3 (h) For an outright loss after a tie in the first innings 3 (i) For a loss on the first innings 0 (j) For an outright loss after being behind on the first innings 0 (k) Win by Forfeit (maximum points from that round/grade) (l) Abandoned, incomplete or drawn matches with no first innings result 3 Plus the average bonus points from that round/grade or their own bonus Points whichever is higher. (m) Abandon matches due to inadequate/suspect ground/pitch preparation (Refer to PC and ) 8

9 Bonus Points For each run scored, the batting side receives 0.01 points in any innings. For each and every wicket taken in each innings, the bowling side receives 0.25 points Averages For the purposes of ascertaining averages, the following system shall be adopted. The batting average for a team shall be obtained by dividing the total number of runs scored by the total number of wickets lost. The batting average against such team shall be obtained by the total number of runs scored against it by the total number of wickets taken. The former shall be divided by the latter. The team having the higher quotient shall be considered to have the better performance Incomplete Match An incomplete match is any match that has not achieved at least a first innings result, including matches that do not achieve a start, but excluding matches that have been declared a forfeit Umpires and the Result Law 2 shall apply with the addition of the following: Any query on the result of the match is defined in Laws and shall be resolved as soon as possible and a final decision made by the Umpires THE CAW FINALS SERIES Finals Series Match Conditions The CAW Finals shall be played under the same playing conditions as a Two Day Pennant Match in the normal season, with the exclusion of PC and and they are to be replaced with PC and Venues for the Finals Series Refer to PC Umpires for the Final Series The Umpires for the Finals series shall be solely appointed by MBCU. 9

10 Results in the Final Series (a) In all Final Series Matches, the lower ranked side must defeat the higher ranked side by firstly a First Innings Result or secondly by an Outright Result to be declared the winner. (b) Any other result, other than those mentioned in PC (a), would mean that the higher ranked side would be declared the winner. (c) In the first week of the Finals, the two lowest ranking losing sides are eliminated. (d) In the second week of the Finals, the two lowest ranking losing sides are eliminated. (e) The winner of the Grand Final of any Grade will be declared the Premier of that Grade. (f) In finals, the winning team is responsible for entering the match result and summary for both sides. Each team is responsible for uploading their own scores onto the CAW Cricket Victoria website by 8pm on the Sunday. Any club failing to do this will be fined $250 per team per final THE CAW FINAL, QUALIFYING FINALS AND SEMI FINALS Final Systems At the completion of a season s scheduled matches, the CAW Board will play the Finals series as either a Final 4, Final 6 or Final 8. For a Final 4: 1 will play 4 2 will play 3 For a Final 6: 1 will play 6 2 will play 5 3 will play 4 For a Final 8: 1 will play 8 2 will play 7 3 will play 6 4 will play Final 4 The Grand Final will be played off between the two winnings sides from the Semi-Final Final 6 The Semi-Finals will be played off between the 3 winning sides and the highest ranking losing side. The Grand Final will be played off between the 2 winning sides from the Semi-Finals Final 8 The Semi-Finals will be played off between the 4 winning sides. The Grand Final will be played off between the 2 winning sides from the Semi-Finals. 10

11 Determining Ladder Positions for the Finals (a) If there are sides with an equal number of points, the qualifying finalists shall be determined by quotient calculated below: (i) Divide the total runs scored for the season by the total wickets lost for the season. (ii) Divide the total runs scored against for the season divided by the total wickets taken for the season. (iii) Divide (i) by (ii). (b) The team having the higher quotient shall be considered to be the higher ranked side. (c) If the teams still remain with the same quotient, a coin will be tossed to decide the higher ranked side Determining the Premier The Premier team for the season shall be the team who wins by either a First Innings result or an Outright Result. In the event of a draw, a tie or an incomplete match occurring without a First Innings or Outright Result being achieved, the highest ranked team in the Grand Final will be deemed the Premier CAW BOARD BY-LAWS Playing Conditions If a Playing Condition is not referred to in this document, refer to: Pennant Match Playing Conditions PC Meaning of Ordinary Conditions Ordinary Conditions means the match reverts to no automatic declarations and for every 7.5 minutes lost, the Umpires have to remove 2 overs off the total of 80 overs allowed in a day. (a) A winner will only be declared if one side has been bowled out and the batting side has passed the runs scored, or has had more runs than the side that has been bowled out. (b) For a Final, if the winner is not derived from (a) or (b), then the highest ranking side shall be declared the winner My Cricket Team Allocations On any CAW entered team on My Cricket you will only be able to enter or have 13 names on the team list 11
