Our Colts: I started playing cricket with the Steyning colts aged 6 and being coached by Andy Simmons at the Summer camp. 10 years on at 16 I m proud to have been the captain of one of the most successful colts teams Steyning has ever had. Our team won a total of 9 trophies in 7 years including 4 festivals in a row. We improved every year and it wasn t long before most of our players were being picked for the men s teams. As a team we showed the bigger, richer clubs that we weren t a push over and went from the Under 14 s to the Under 16 s only losing one game. Playing for the Colts was always something I looked forward to and will be something that I miss. But not as much as missing out on the chance to play at the County Ground in the Champions League Final this year due to rain! A big Thank-you to everyone at the club who has helped us along the way. Chris Barnett Colts Match Selection If a player reaches a suitable standard he/she may be asked to represent the club in a match. The coaches and managers will try to give everyone an opportunity to play competitive cricket during the session, however, this has to be balanced against the player s suitability and the needs of the team. Home Games take place at the Memorial Playing Field or Steyning Grammar School. Please check with your team manager. Page 12

Girls Girls matches are 8-a-Side: Matches played on Thursday evenings. Contact Details: Richard Poyser (Manager) Mob: Training night: Fridays from 6:30 until 7:45 pm Coaches: Richard Poyser In 2017, we had an influx of new players in u11 and 12 age groups which is great news for the future as, due to numbers, we tend to enter a mixed age team in the older girls League. Last year we had a good season in the U15 Girls league, with many competitive performances and a great win against Burgess Hill. In the Festival we combined with the U13 Colts team and between us, we improved throughout the competition finishing with a win. I really hope the new players from last season all re-join this year and bring a few more friends too. We are currently competing in an indoor Colts League, which is great experience for the coming season. We will be entering the U16 Girls League allowing all the players from last year to play again. See you all for indoor training in Feb and March Richard Poyser Page 13

Under 8 s and below (School year 1 to year 3 ) Training Night: Friday from 5:30 6:15 pm Co-ordinator: Michelle Poyser michellepoyser@btinternet.com Mob: Age: Children must be in year 1 or above to attend. Due to the young age parents MUST ensure they are prompt to sign out the children at the end of the session. Coaches: Andy Simmons Dennis Goldsmith Bart Poyser Nathan Tyler Tim Redding Benjamin Bower Parents/carers: Are You Itching to get Involved on Friday Nights? Join in the fun by supporting a coaching station. This is a great way to give back to your community, be part of the actives and develop new skills. A huge thanks to the three dads who regularly supported the coaches. In order to run the session we need more helpers this year. If you are good at interacting with young children then your support as a member of the register crew will be very welcome. Contact Michelle if you are interested in supporting the Mini Colts. Mini Colts We are looking forward to seeing you all in the summer for lots of fun activities. You will be building on the fielding, batting and bowling skills you developed last year. Cricket Tournament for the U9s and U8s We ran an U8s and U9s mini competition in 2017 which was a great success and we hope to run more tournaments in Page 14

Under 9 s (school year 4) Identilam League: Matches played on weekday evenings Manager: Mark Groves mark@groveswindowcleaning.com Training night: Fridays from 5:30 until 6:15 pm Coaches: Andy Simmons Mark Groves will be running this age group in We wish Mark and the team good luck for the coming season. Under 10 s (school year 5) Identilam League: Matches played Saturday am. Training night: Fridays from 6:30 until 7:45 pm Manager: Cecily Tidley Coaches: Andy Dodd We had great fun this season, from nail biting finishes to runaway wins. Having started the season slowly we got our first win against Horsham Trinity, this was the start of many more team performances that saw our boys and girls start to come together as a team. We lost a few matches during the season but the children came back stronger, with improving skills to win the last 2 games against West Chiltington and Southwater. As we look forward to Winter Nets, I am sure that all the children will continue to develop their skills with the hardball and become a squad that will rival our competitors in the up and coming league. Thank you to the parents that have scored, umpired and made teas this year, your involvement comes with gratitude but most of all, allows all the children involved to play and enjoy cricket. Page 15

Under 11 s (school year 6) South Area League: Matches played Sunday mornings. Home matches normally at Memorial Playing Field. Manager: Mia Glass miaglass@gmail.com Training night: Fridays from 6:30 until 7:45 pm Coach: Andy Simmons U10s had a very enjoyable season with a good number of players in the squad giving all those who wanted to play the opportunity to do so. We finished the season around mid table in the IDentilam League. There were some excellent individual performances during the season but most importantly the team performed strongly together and were getting better and better as the season went on. The only problem was that the season ended too early for our liking as most of our players would have liked to carry on with matches. Our mantra for the season was to enjoy the game and do our best which is what we will continue to do next season! Page 16

Under 12 s (school year 7) Identilam League: Matches played Saturday morning. Contact Details: Abby Cochran pothillhouse@googl .com Training night: Fridays from 6:30 until 7:45 pm Coaches: Bart Poyser Abi Cochran will be managing this age group this year. The team would like to thank Chris Mandry for all his efforts over the previous years as team manager. Page 17

Under 13 s (school year 8) South Area Young Cricketers League Matches played Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm Contact Details: Paul Isaacs (Manager) paul@otusliveincare.co.uk Mob: Training night: Mondays from 6pm until 7:30 pm Coaches: Mike Stevens George Isaacs Well a great season in many ways. Great individual performance and teamwork culminating in finishing second in the Identilam league by 1 point to Horsham it could not have been closer!! Looking at the statistics everyone contributed with the bat, ball or fielding every player got both runs and wickets this season. A few notable performances to highlight from the season Jaiden Semple Hughes scored a total of 142 (89 best score) in the festival, Billy Maple scored a total of 168 runs second highest in the league and a total of 145 runs in the festival. Strong bowling performance from Daniel McGuire, Dylan Dalgleish Quinn, Joe Stevens and Will Walton had a great first season as wicketkeeper/ batsman. Team captain Billy Maple has been selected once again for the Sussex area squad congratulations. Clearly evident as in previous seasons was the great team work, all the players supported each other both on and off the field. A key attribute of the team has been never giving up, they always kept going in every situation, we saw some spirted efforts and notable achievements. Well done to all the boys a great season in the league and festival matches you should be proud of yourselves. Page 18

Under 14 s (school year 9) Identilam League Matches Sunday mornings at Memorial Playing fields Contact Details: Shona Honey (Administration) shona.honey@gmail.com Training night: Wednesday from 6.00pm Coaches: Bart Poyser At the start of the season, we weren t sure that we would be able to field an U13s team. We had lost our manager and players were thin on the ground. But the club pulled together with fantastic support from David Egginton who became our team manager, Andy Simmons and Bart Poyser who led weekly coaching sessions and Richard and Michelle Poyser who offered continual support to steer us in the right direction. Without them, this season simply would not have been possible. With the back-up team in place, we were able to recruit some new players and, bolstered with some younger players, we fielded a team for each league match and entered a joint girls/u13 team for the festival. We had some close matches in the league, and the team grew in strength and confidence throughout the season, leading to a very competitive and enjoyable festival. The following players were chosen by the coaches for awards. Batting: Jake Parr Bowling: Dan Anderson Fielding: George Tremewan Coaches Award: Ben Lane All Rounder: Noah Minchell As a team, we d particularly like to thank the parents who stepped up to make the matches possible, in many different roles. Steve Collins, Steph Wilkinson and Mark Minchell were regularly found umpiring, scoring and rallying the team. Lisa Piggot, Sally Parr, Sally Anderson, Polly Finch, Kirstie Minchell provided much needed teas. All in all, a season about team effort. Well done all. Page 19

Under 15 s (school year 10) Matches Mondays 6:00 pm at the Grammar School. Training: Thursday Evening Contact Details: Marco Spano (Manager) Coaches: Tel Mob Andy Simmons marco@rocciallp.co.uk As U14 s in 2017 we performed very creditably in the league finishing 3rd having been promoted. The boys progressed over the season and I felt the season came to end too early for many of them as their belief in their ability grew. Winter nets are going to be crucial in 2018 to make sure we hit the ground running and hopefully we will have another good season enjoying ourselves and remaining competitive. Looking forward to it. Under 16 s (school year 11) South Area Young Cricketers League Matches Wednesday from 6:00 pm at the Memorial Playing Field. Training night: TBC Contact Details: Tim Warren (Manager) Coaches: Tel: Mob: Tim Warren tw.timwarren@gmail.com We had an excellent 2017 season, building on last season s achievements and establishing ourselves as one of the most competitive teams in our league and area. We were runners up in both the league and our u16 Festival group. Again we combined fine individual performances with some excellent team play. Our lesson this year has been the importance of perseverance! A hat trick to salvage a tied league game and long periods on the receiving end in a Festival game showed it really isn t over till it s over. a lesson to take into next season and beyond. Once again we got things running really smoothly throughout but only because of the great support and willingness to pitch in, often at short notice. Thanks to all for that it really does make a huge difference. Special thanks as always to Andy for his coaching and support. Page 20

Senior Cricket Ladies Ladies matches are 8-a-Side: TBC Contact Details: Karen Duck (Manager) Training night: TBC Coach: TBC We are taking in new players so would welcome anyone interested, experience not necessary, just a keen interest in sports, team spirit and having fun. Please contact Karen if you are interesting in joining us. Steyning Sixers - U19's Karen Matches evenings or Sunday mornings. Training night: adult training Tuesday evenings. Contact Details: Coordinator: TBC TBC Our second year in the competition and we made it to finals day after narrowly missing out the previous year. In the league we had some close and exciting games, winning 5 and only losing the 1 against Brighton & Hove. After beating them on blisteringly hot day at the Neville (you won t hear that said very often), we lost by 1 run off the last ball at Steyning, having entertained the crowd with a combined total of 303 runs. The players and club received some very complimentary feedback from the away teams regarding the effort we put into hosting our games, giving the players and supporters the full T20 Blast experience. Thanks to all those who helped to make these games such a success. So to finals day, early on a chilly Sunday morning in September at Horntye Park, Hastings. Steyning were drawn against Cuckfield and chose to bat. We got off to a great start with an opening partnership of 66 and continued to score steadily to set a decent target of 148 for the loss of 5 wickets. Cuckfield also started well losing their first wicket on 56 and although they carried on scoring at the required rate they regularly lost wickets. Last over, 140 for 7 needing 9 runs to win but unfortunately for us their no.8 hit a 6 off the second ball and finished the game off the next one. Making finals day was a fitting way for Oli Collins, Sam Barnett, Gus Simon and James Yarrow to bow out of colts cricket to fully focus on their senior cricket. They leave the U19 s in the capable hands of Sam Sutterlin, Tom Chalmers, Bart Poyser, George Isaacs and the very talented U17 s. 23 First XI Captain Luke Chapman Vice - Oli Collins Luke Chapman will be captaining the team this season with Oli as vice captain. This will hopefully be a winning combination following Luke's success with the 2 nd XI and Oli's success with the U19s last season. Second XI Captain Simon Grant sgrant@rgare.com Vice - Ryan Matthews and George Isaacs A brilliant season for the 2nd XI, to be crowned champions of division six is an incredible effort and everyone who was part of it should be really pleased with themselves. One game in particular that really stands out for me and made us all believe we would become champions is the game against Stirlands 2nd XI at Home. To bowl a side out for 33 and to knock them off with all our wickets still remaining was great effort but an even better effort to beat the rain, which almost everyone thought the game would be a washout. A big thank you to everyone that helped out and supported us this year we really do appreciate it! Looking forward to another successful season in division 5. Third XI Captain Steve Collins, stevecollins3@live.co.uk Vice TBA The 3 rd XI continued to introduce new colts into the senior game, with some of the previous year s intake moving up to the 2 nd XI already. We had a great team spirit throughout the season and had we had better fortune along the way we could well have been promoted. Our cause was not helped by the fact that we had to concede one of our games to a promotion rival due to lack of players and we lost two games to the weather, both against sides that were subsequently relegated. However, winning 7 of our 14 games played and bringing in new players made for a successful season. There are lots of positives to be taken forward and notable performances from the new colts were Jake Martin and Zayn Khan, both with their first 50 s in senior league cricket and 86 not out for Ben Spano off just 64 balls, who knows what he could ve gone on to score that day if we hadn t have run out of overs. A massive thank you to the rest of the team, Jackie and Rosemary for scoring and the more mature element of our playing squad for their support and approach to each game, their role should never be underestimated and is vital for the progression of our younger players. Going forward we will continue to develop our colts by providing the stepping stone to the next level. The new season will bring about an exciting challenge following the league restructure. Page 23
