BBC Cricket Goal Statement Brisbane Boys College Cricket supports the mission of the College by providing students with the opportunity to participate in cricket as a part of the co-curricular life of BBC. Boys will be encouraged to develop their competitive spirit, reach their potential and enjoy the progression and success that is a part of cricket at BBC. Cricketers who represent Brisbane Boys College acknowledge and embrace the spirit of cricket and the laws of the game. Brisbane Boys College is committed to developing young men of character, creativity, resilience, determination and courage by being involved in the wide range of co-curricular activities offered throughout the year. The BBC Cricket program will offer excellent conditions and enthusiastic and experienced coaches to assist in the personal, physical, spiritual and emotional development of all the boys who are involved. All that we do will focus on providing benefit to the boys and to add value to their lives. The Culture of the BBC Cricket Program Led by the First XI squad of cricketers and First XI coaches/director of Cricket, a clearly identifiable set of core values have been established. These core values are: Community mindedness Resilience Self-discipline Integrity Positive relationships Living these core values is essential to achieving a positive cricket culture for all involved with BBC Cricket. It starts with the First XI squad and filters through the entire BBC Cricket program. Our drive is to challenge each cricketer to wonder, to plan, to believe and to execute and enhance the vision and to leave the school with a distinctive BBC personality and character. 3 Program Values To ensure that all coaching staff are trained to provide a player-focussed learning and playing environment for boys of all levels of ability. To provide participants in the program with sound technical and social skills, and to develop and encourage team work and tolerance. To cater for all students and promote cricket as a valuable tool for lifelong health and wellbeing. To promote a safe, secure, disciplined and quality learning environment to ensure players are able to optimise their skill learning. To recruit, support and train accredited coaches and managers to develop the most effective teaching practices and seek participation feedback to ensure continued satisfaction. To encourage children to play confidently and creatively to build self-esteem to develop a love of learning and a strong sense of belonging and self-worth. To support young cricketers by providing up to date technical information to develop individual skills. To keep abreast of world best practice development programs to ensure we deliver up to the minute content. BBC Cricketers Cricketers take pride in the understanding of the importance of the team as a group representing our College. Cricketers acknowledge the role of the team captain, other team members, the team coach and the other coaching staff as well as the Director of Cricket. Cricketers demonstrate this by displaying loyalty and compassion to each other, by accepting the role as representatives of the College and by supporting each other to abide by the core values. Cricketers require complete honesty and accept that every member of the team has a role to play in consistently achieving the shared standards and expectations. Cricketers strive to be regarded as the best team we can possibly be. The measure of this is by our attendance and performance at training, our presentation at training and on match days, the teams on field achievements and by continuing to raise the bar in respect of our own performances. Cricketers acknowledge and follow the traditions of the game and the College while encouraging and accepting ways that will enable all boys to create their own traditions and history. Success Cricketers at BBC will strive to live the core values of community mindedness, resilience, self-discipline, integrity and positive relationships and aim to fulfill the ideals of participation, progression and performance. As a result, success is measured by the extent to which, as cricketers, boys have: Developed playing skills in the pursuit of excellence; Made a positive and lasting contribution to the game and to the College; Competed honestly with skill, courage, commitment and sacrifice; and Enjoyed their cricket. Coaching The standard and success of the BBC Cricket program will be largely determined by the ideals of participation, progression and performance, and the quality and relevance of the coaching and support network that occurs within it. Therefore finding and developing suitably qualified people working within sustainable and effective coaching and support structures is a priority. As part of this process, BBC Cricket has developed a cricket coaching curriculum to act as a guide for the coaching staff within the program. It includes a clear pathway of progression in various skills, a structured coaching program, effective lesson plans, common skills and drills that BBC cricketers will implement during training in the hope that players will be able to make the link into the pressures of the game. This is a guide aimed at supporting one of our most important resources, the coaches of the teams, at the most basic level. The BBC Cricket program wants to improve the coaching programs and the quality of the cricket practices in order to attract, develop and keep players. To be effective, practice sessions need to form part of a coordinated coaching plan, and be well planned, well organised and well run. Each session must have objectives and a structure, be varied and challenging, create match-like scenarios and encourage decision making, and allow all players to get something out of it to improve their own game. In this way the BBC cricketer develops, enjoys practice and looks forward to attending the next session. Planning is crucial to successful coaching. All coaches need to be determined to make a difference in the program by being organised, reliable and skilled. Coaches show the way in terms of preparation and enthusiasm for the cricketers at BBC. The BBC Cricket Curriculum Plan is designed to assist all stakeholders: 1. To provide a clear outline of the cricketing calendar for all stakeholders. 2. To clarify the role of the cricket stakeholders within the program. 3. To allow BBC Cricket coaches to set up effective delivery structures that will assist the College program achieve effective training sessions. This curriculum plan will have a focus on the basics, as identified by Queensland Cricket, in regards to the batting, spin and pace bowling, fielding and wicket keeping. These will be used to help shape coaching structures and philosophies throughout the season.
