1 NAIRN COUNTY CRICKET CLUB NEWSLETTER 2015 Another cricket season has come to an end. As Chair there are many positives which I can report on. We received very generous funding for new green keeping equipment and clothing from Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation, Nairn Rotary, Mercedes Benz Highlands and Jan Stuart. Green keeper, using the new equipment Ball sponsorships for each match from The Play House, Balance Sport Clinic, Househill Coffee Shop, Pat Fraser, Jac's, Mr D's and Highland Deli, also helped raise funds that covered the costs of the balls and Club's membership fees. We also had 2 fundraising events, the Nairnshire Challenge, which is a good team building exercise

2 and the Ladies Tea which was a huge success, involving ladies from different sectors of the community, with special guests Kay Jackson from the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation, Yvonne Cotter from Rotary and Jan Stuart Seniors: The seniors receiving their playing shirts from Nigel Fuller from Mercedes Benz Highland. Thanks to Andy Cresswell for the senior leadership this season.

3 On the cricket pitch we started slow with no wins in the first part of the season. The team which is a very young side averaging age of 22, struggled to find their feet, changing opening pairings each week which did not seem to work. Two new players joined the Club, which seemed to inject the boys with hope. Iain Lednor and Martin Bronkhorst added a new wicket keeper and much needed batting power. Both players have made an impact, as they have helped settle batting and bowling positions which have led to some impressive wins by the team. After a bad loss against Fort William on the very first outing, Nairn returned the favour with just an impressive win at home, bowling the Fort Bill boys out for 24 runs. Nairn lost narrowly to Ross County by 4 runs, and could not return the revenge away due to rain. Northern Counties fell victim to another of Nairn's wins when they slumped to a 30 run loss after cruising to a looked like easy win. Elgin also felt the lash of Nairn as they were bowled out for 34 runs, after Nairn scored 228 for 7, the first ton of the season going to Adrian Neill eventually been caught on 106. Impressive bowling figures by Patrick Gerring with 6/11 and 6/12, Calum Forsyth 6/13 and Martin Bronkhorst 5/19 showed how much the boys had improved from the beginning of the season. Adrian Neill, who plays for Aberdeenshire and Nairn, made Scottish cricket history when he took all 10 wickets against Watsonians in Edinburgh in May. Watsonians then took revenge on Arbroath denying them the Eastern Premier National League title by beating them in the last match of the season.

4 Reserve Competition T20 title in the Reserve League was also one of those that slipped away by losing to Buckie by 2 runs, after an impressive win over Forres earlier on in the day. In the Reserve Cup final Nairn faced Forres at Forres due to the Links been unavailable. Nairn played well to reach the final, beating Huntly to reach the final. Forres beat Nairn with 2 over's left. Thanks to Steven Neill for this year's contribution as reserve captain Occasions: Martin married Jasmine, we wish them many happy years together Andy and Esti became a little cricketer richer on the arrival of baby Struan Juniors: James Findlay joined the team as junior match co-ordinator, organising the hardball matches for both U/14 and U/16. Nairn also started slow losing their first opening matches, but finished off strong, ending both leagues in second position. Much improvement has been seen in Jason Brandsma, Gabriel Gallman Findlay, George and Henry Kerr, Shane Hayward and leadership from Ruaridh Summers.

5 Some of the junior hardball players like Henry, George and Shane have been coming to senior nets which has helped their confidence, in facing the hard ball. Thanks to the senior players for making them feel welcome. Lastly, thanks to James for all his efforts and time spent on the cricket pitch. 6 Mini's No mini matches were played this season, which was a disappointment for both players and parents, this after winning the Eadie Walls soft ball league for the last 4 years. Weather also played a part, as the first 2 rounds were cancelled due to rain. Another matter was that too many of the players in the mini group, were very young and not experienced enough to take part in this league. A game vs Northern Counties was organised, but was cancelled due to the weather. Next season would be different as these little ones will have grown and become stronger for bowling the distance require d, and become more attentive on the field when fielding. My thanks go to Andy Cresswell, Patrick Gerring and Alex Green for coaching the mini's. Community Millbank won the Nairn Kwik Cricket Festival, and finished 7th in Scotland after the tournament in Perth. Thanks to Iain Lednor, Iain Macleod, Patrick Gerring, Alex Green and Martin Bronkhorst for their help at the Nairn Tournament.

7 Nairn Academy took part in the Emerging Schools tournament and beat Milne's High School from Fochabers to reach the finals in Perth. Nairn Academy came second in this tournament. Thanks to Paul Weller for the help of transport. Family Day The Club also had a family Day where parents joined in to play cricket footie and a father and son cricket match. Different competitions where held to test the skills of players and some of the fathers joint in to tests their skills.

8 Northern Counties in their first competitive match against Nairn Union, took place 150 years ago, on the 16th June Nairn Union became Nairn County in This clash took place on the 19th September 2015 with Nairn winning with 3 balls remaining. Nairn's oldest player Alan Watson took everyone by surprise by taking a hat trick, at the ripe age of 72. The team as follows: Back: Jason Brandsma and Alex Green. Middle: Adrian Neill, Iain McLeod, Fraser McBean and Steven Neill. Front: Alan Watson, Neil Gibson, Iain Lednor, Patrick Gerring and Magnus Neill. Year end function: Nairn held their first combined prize giving on the 3rd October at the Club. The usual family game took place, with buffet and prize giving. The following players received recognition for their efforts during the season. U/14 - Batting: Henry Kerr - Bowling: Shane Hayward, both these players received trophies at the MCA in the Gordon Baxter League. Most improved Player: George Kerr, with mention of Ronin Brandsma.

9 U/16 - Batting- Gabriel Gallman Findlay : Bowling - Jason Brandsma Leadership: Ruaridh Summers Junior player of the year: Jason Brandsma, he also received the Batting Award at the MCA for the U/16 Colts League Seniors: Batting - Steven Neill 415 runs, and also received the NOSCA Young Player of the year Award Bowling - Patrick Gerring 24 wickets 5 wicket hauls: Patrick Gerring, Calum Forsyth, and Martin Bronkhorst.
