FRIDAY FOUR X FOUR EXECUTIVES: PRESIDENT Doug Wilkinson VICE PRESIDENT SHAUNA KIROUAC SECRETARY Bobbie Puttick TREASURER Rachel Puttick RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. SCHEDULE The league shall bowl four consecutive games on Friday evenings and the official starting time shall be 6:20 p.m. SHARP. Latecomers have until the end of the third frame, but no later than 6:30 p.m. to catch up; whichever comes first. The league shall commence on Friday, September 8, 2017 and continue until Friday, April 20, The league will not bowl on December 22, 2017, December 29, 2017 and March 30, Points will be taken the first night of play. The league shall bowl for 28 weeks regular season plus 2 weeks of playoffs. 2. QUARTERS The league shall be divided into four (4) quarters. Based on 26 teams, Quarter winners, that is teams who finish in 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place overall for the current quarter, will be declared at the end of the 7 th, 14 th, 21 st, and 28 th weeks using the regular CTF Lane Assignment schedule. In addition, only if the league has 28 teams, there will also be 2 wild cards declared at the end of the regular season based on total points. Each team can only place in a quarter once with the first occurrence, being the one that counts. Wild card teams cannot have previously won a quarter. At the start of each new quarter, current points won will restart at 0. Year to date points will continue to accumulate. 3. AVERAGES The previous year's finishing average in this league, or highest league average if coming from another league, shall be used for the first 3 weeks (12 games) of league play. A bowler must use last season s average in this league if 12 or more games were bowled, otherwise their highest league average until they have bowled 12 games to establish an average in this league. If a bowler does not have a legal average (21 games) in any league either for last year or the current year, then their average will be established after four consecutive games have been bowled in our league. Page 1 of 5
4. TEAM & LINE-UPS Each team must consist of 4 bowlers only. Teams must have a minimum of 1 female bowler and 1 male bowler. A legal line-up MUST consist of a minimum of 1 regular bowler who is present to bowl. All four (4) bowlers on a team MUST bowl four (4) consecutive games each unless injured during the game. A bowler who cannot complete all four games (4) may use a substitute that night, if available, for partial games only but for no more than four weeks during the bowling season. No partial substitutes will be permitted during Playoffs. Otherwise, no substitute will be allowed for the injured bowler for subsequent games that night. The team shall use the injured bowler's average less 10 pins for the remaining games. Each night of bowling, team line-ups are arranged in ascending order of averages; low to high. The bowlers bowling opposite each other as well as the team as a group shall compete for points as indicated in section 8 below. 5. TEAM NAMES Each team shall decide on a team name and captain the first night of bowling. The team captain will then advise the league secretary of their chosen name by indicating their team name on the lane score sheets. Team names cannot be of a derogatory nature, cannot imply and/or be foul language, nor can team names be used that can be construed as a derogatory saying and/or foul language. 6. LINEAGE & PRIZE MONEY This is a guaranteed lineage and guaranteed prize money league. All bowlers shall be responsible for both lineage ($21.00/night/bowler) and prize money ($5.00/night/bowler), unless the bowler has made arrangements for a spare to pay for the lineage. If a spare pays for the lineage then prize money would still have to be paid by the bowler the following week. Prize money is due and payable, to the lanes (envelope provided) each night of bowling. If a bowler is absent, prize money is due and payable in full upon their return. Failure to pay on time could result in a fine of $1.00 per bowler for every week the bowler is in arrears. Each bowler is also required to pay to the lanes (envelope provided) the lineage and prize money for the last 2 playoff weeks of bowling ($52.00/bowler) in advance but by no later than October 6, Unless alternate arrangements have been made with the lanes, failure to pay on time could result in a fine of $1.00 per bowler for every week the bowler is in arrears. Prize money and Secretary Fee are NOT refundable should a bowler leave the league. 7. ABSENT BOWLERS & VACANCY SCORES If a team is short a bowler, the vacant score will be 135 for females and 150 for males. Page 2 of 5
A team that already has 2 male bowlers and 1 female bowler shall use the female vacancy score of 135. A team that already has 2 female bowlers and 1 male bowler shall use the male vacancy score of 150. For both the regular season & playoffs, if the league has an uneven number of teams, the team bowling unopposed would have to bowl their average less 10 pins in order to take the point. If not, no points are awarded. 8. SCORING During the regular bowling season, scoring will be done by match play. Match play is 100% of the difference in the averages between opposing bowlers. For example: Bowler 1 s average is 150. The opposing bowler s average is 230. Therefore bowler 1 will be given +80 on their score each game to determine who wins the 2 points each game. The point breakdown would be as follows: 2 points awarded for each personal win and 2 points awarded for each team win Points for total pin fall will be awarded to each team as follows (1/1000th): Total pin fall Team A = 3017 Total pin fall Team B = 2545 Team A will be awarded 3.02 points Team B will be awarded 2.55 points 9. HANDICAP Handicap for each bowler is used for individual High Handicap Scores only and will be based on 100% of the difference between the bowler s individual average and 220. Negative handicap will not be used for averages over 220. Team Handicap will be the sum of each individual handicap and will be used to determine the total team points each game as well as the team High Handicap Scores. 10. Pre-Bowling Pre-Bowling (of all 4 games) during the regular bowling season is allowed and must be done in advance of the regular league night. Arrangements to pre-bowl must be made with the lanes by the bowler. Pre-Bowling is not allowed for Playoffs. The only exceptions will be: - in the case of an EMERGENCY (death in the family, broken limbs, in the hospital), and MUST then be voted on by the majority of team captains - if a bowler/team is participating in the CTF Annual Tournament (proof of participation in the tournament must be provided) and the bowler must notify the League Secretary of when the pre-bowling will be done. It will not be acceptable for other than the individuals actually bowling in the Tournament to pre-bowl. All 4 members of a team can pre-bowl providing arrangements have been made with the lanes and then the league Secretary has been notified of the confirmed pre-bowl date. Providing these stipulations have been met, pre-bowling counts for perfect attendance and scores bowled count towards an individual's average only. Page 3 of 5
11. SPARES & PACERS Spares are allowed during playoffs providing they have an established average in the Friday 4x4 League (minimum of 24 games) but are to have an average no higher than 10 pins over the bowler they are replacing. Lower averages are irrelevant. A spare must use last season s average in this league if 12 or more games were bowled, otherwise their highest league average until they have bowled 12 games to establish an average in this league. When a spare is used in a legal line-up, the spare goes into the position where his/her average fits. A female bowler can replace a male bowler and a male bowler can replace a female bowler as long as a legal line-up still exists. Spares can be used from another house as long as the Secretary verifies their average. Spare bowlers from a Sport Bowling League must follow average adjustment as per CTF Average Adjustment Scale. There will be absolutely NO PACERS allowed during league play. 12. SANCTIONING This league will be sanctioned with the CTF. Fees for the season will be $25.00 per bowler. Fees for seniors (65+) will be $23.00 per bowler. 13. SECRETARIAL FEES Each bowler in the league as well as all new bowlers coming into the league throughout the year will be required to pay, to the Treasurer, a non-refundable fee of $5.00. This fee is to be paid to the lanes (envelope provided) by no later than October 6, PRIZE LIST Cash prizes will be awarded at year-end for scratch and handicap, individual and teams scores. A prize list will be distributed by the Prize Committee within the guidelines as set forth in the CTF Rule book. The only trophy that will be distributed will be for the aggregate season point leader. The aggregate season point leader will also receive the CTF Chevrons. 15. PLAYOFFS (BASED ON 28 TEAMS) The three winners from each quarter (determined by their 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place finish in a quarter) as well as, if the league has 28 teams, the two wild card winners (determined by total points taken year-to-date) will compete in the playoffs for the Championship (no repeats). The remaining teams will compete in the Consolation round. Page 4 of 5
To determine lane assignments, a lane draw will be done prior to each week of playoffs. Lanes 1-14 will be used for the Championship Round. Lanes will be used for the Consolation Round. The lanes may change if the league has more or less teams. CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND will be bowled with the 14 qualified teams competing against each other each game. The team with the highest score (including handicap) each game will take 14 points, the team with the second highest score will take 13 points, etc. down to the team with the lowest score taking 1 point. Points total will be added at the end of each 4 game block, the same as during the regular season. That is if you have a total score of 3168, including handicap, the team gets an additional 3.17 points. This is used to help prevent/break ties. Maximum points that can be taken in a night are xx for total. CONSOLATION ROUND will be bowled with the remaining teams competing against each other each game. If there are 14 teams in this round, the team with the highest score (including handicap) each game will take 14 points, the team with the second highest score will take 13 points, etc. down to the team with the lowest score taking 1 point. Points total will be added at the end of each 4 game block, the same as during the regular season. That is if you have a total score of 3168, including handicap, the team gets an additional 3.17 points. This is used to help prevent/break ties. Maximum points that can be taken in a night are xx for total. 16. Quorum The number of bowlers attending the meeting for RULE CHANGES will be the number required for a quorum in order to make any rule changes. 17. GENERAL No one except paying bowlers are permitted on the lanes (this includes children). Foul lines and lane courtesy will be strictly adhered to. A 50/50 draw will be held each week to raise money for our league. The tickets are $1.00 each or 3 for $2.00. Half of the money collected goes to the league, the balance to the winner. It will be carried out between games 1 & 2. All awards and prize money to be awarded at year end will be done at a gathering at a location to be determined at a later date. Page 5 of 5
