Welcome to Knaresborough Cricket Club! Knaresborough Cricket Club is proud of its place at the heart of the town s community and last year celebrated its 200 th anniversary. Our ground on Aspin Lane has great facilities, including outdoor training nets and a clubhouse with function room. Our aim is to become one of the top cricket clubs in the region. Alongside our successful senior teams, we have a thriving junior section that offers cricket coaching and competition for children and young people aged 5 to 17 years of age. All coaching is led by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people. Our young cricketers enjoy opportunities to develop in a friendly environment, meet others who share their aspirations and compete at their own level in the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League. The Club has been accredited with Clubmark, which the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) awards to clubs that meet quality criteria for their cricket programme; duty of care and safeguarding children; sports equity and ethics; and club management. Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues seriously and that we strive to provide a high-quality and welcoming environment for young cricketers. We welcome parents and carers to all training and competitions and value your support. Junior cricket development is a top priority for Knaresborough Cricket Club and we are keen to hear your views on how you think we are doing and receive any suggestions for improvement. If you have any comments or queries, or would like to become involved with our junior activities, please do not hesitate to speak to any of us. This membership pack brings together key information about the forthcoming season. We look forward to seeing you in the summer! Kelly Ward, Club Welfare Officer Richard Perham, Junior Club Chair Jonathan Corcoran, Senior Club Secretary 1

Pre-Season Training: Indoor Nets This year s pre-season indoor nets training has been taking place on Sunday evenings in the Sports Hall at King James s School in Knaresborough. There is one remaining net session on 3 rd April (there will be no session on 27 th March as it is Easter Sunday). The cost is 2.00 per session per child, payable on the night. If you can make 3 rd April, just turn up and play! Training is open to both boys and girls by age group, with timings as follows. Age Group Under 9s (Years 3 & 4) Under 11s (Years 5 & 6) Under 13s (Years 7 & 8) Under 15s/17s/seniors Time 5 6pm 6 7pm 7 8pm pm Cricketers should wear non-marking trainers and sports kit (whites aren t needed). Please bring all your own equipment (bat, pads, helmet) if you have it there will be spare available for the younger age groups if needed. Under 9s will be playing with soft balls, but from Under 11s upwards a hard corky cricket ball will be used and all players must wear a helmet and box when batting. Summer Training Junior training sessions will take place on Friday evenings at our Aspin Lane ground from Friday 15 th April until Friday 22 nd July. Sessions will begin at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm (apart from Under 7s, who will finish at 7.30pm). Please note that training will take place during half-term (on Friday 3 rd June). This means that, weather allowing, there will be 15 training sessions. When training has to be cancelled because of poor weather, we will parents as soon as possible and post a message on the Club website. Boys are grouped for training and matches by age, as follows: Under 7s (school years 1 and 2) Under 9s (school years 3 and 4) Under 11s (school years 5 and 6) Under 13s (school years 7 and 8) Under 15s (school years 9 and 10) Under 17s (school years 11 and 12). Girls train and compete in a mixed-age group. Please make sure you send your child along with plenty to drink. 2

Please ensure you make arrangements for your child to travel to and from training. We appreciate it if children arrive promptly and are collected on time (if they are not making their own way home). In the event of wet weather, please do not leave your child until you are sure that the session has not been cancelled. If you are think you may be delayed picking up your child, please you advise one of the coaches when you drop them off. There s a great atmosphere at the club on Friday evenings and many children and their parents enjoy staying on after training is over to catch up with friends. The bar is open from 6.30pm and there is a tuck shop. Please note that if your family chooses to stay at the Club after 8pm on a Friday evening your child is no longer the responsibility of the coaches. Please ensure that they keep off the cricket square, do not climb or kick footballs at the screens and around the scoreboard, and do not drop litter (big bins will be put out on the corner of the grass). Equipment and kit Club training kit consists of trainers, cricket whites or tracksuit bottoms, with a light-coloured top and a warm sweatshirt or cricket sweater. Bats and balls are provided, although you may find that your child wants their own once they find they like the game. Children from Year 5 and upwards play with a hard ball and will need to wear a cricket box, helmet, pads and gloves again, kit is available to borrow if needed. Helmets with a faceguard or grille must be worn when batting against a hard cricket ball in matches and in practice sessions. Wicket keepers must wear a helmet with a faceguard, or a wicketkeeper face protector, when standing up to the stumps. For more detail, see Helmets are widely available and are covered by a British Standard for a full list of helmets meeting this standard see Please ask for advice if you are uncertain about what kit to buy. Match Kit From Under 11s upwards, whites and a Knaresborough Cricket Club shirt and cap must now be worn for matches. Knaresborough kit can be bought from the online shop on our club website. Matches We have entered the following six teams into the Nidderdale Junior League: Under 9s Under 11s 11-a-side Under 11s Pairs Under 13s Under 15s Under 17s. 3

In addition, our mixed-age girls team will play matches within the girls league that is part of the Nidderdale Junior League. The Under 7s will take part in a tournament in June. Each age group has a Team Manager, who will be in touch once the season gets underway with information about upcoming fixtures. The Team Managers are as follows: Under 7s John Sixsmith Under 9s James Sutcliffe Under 11s Kelly Ward Under 13s Andy Ward Under 15s Tony Sadler Under 17s Tom Wilson Girls Mark Weatherill Parents and carers are responsible for making arrangements for their child to travel to and from matches (when selected). Your Team Manager will provide details of venues and what time your child needs to arrive. Registration and Fees This year, registration will take place on the first night of training, Friday 15 th April, from 6pm. Training will begin at 6.30pm. If your child is unable to come that night, you will be able to register on the first Friday evening training session they attend. Registration forms and information will be available for completion and checking on the night. This summer, the fee for all age groups from Under 9s to Under 15s will be 50 per child. This covers the membership fee and insurance ( 10) and all coaching for the season ( 40). The fee for Under 7s will be 35 per child ( 10 membership fee and insurance; 25 coaching). Reduced rates are offered for two or more children: there will be a 10 reduction on the total cost of two memberships; and a 15 reduction on the total cost of three memberships. The fee should be paid at the time of registering, either by cash or cheque made payable to Knaresborough Cricket Club. Please note that, as last year, if your child is selected to play in any matches there will be an additional fee of 1.00 per game (payable on the evening of the match). All fees are put towards junior cricket development. Junior membership of the Club provides that parents/carers of the junior member are given nonvoting membership of the Club. However, any use of facilities (for example social, training, playing) may incur such charges as applicable to adult members. 4

Joining partway through the season If your child registers after half-term (from 3 rd June), the fees will be reduced as follows: 30 for U9s to U15s ( 20 coaching plus 10 membership) for U7s ( coaching plus 10 membership) Child Welfare Knaresborough Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents/carers associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore members are encouraged to be open at all times. If anyone has cause for concern or complaint about any aspect of the club, this should be shared with Kelly Ward, the Club Welfare Officer with responsibility for junior members ( ). The club has adopted the ECB Child Welfare Policy, a copy of which is kept by the Club Welfare Officer.
