1 2018 U.S. Figure Skating Challenge Series Eastern, Midwestern, and Pacific Coast Challenge Series Competitions will take place from October, 2017 March,

2 U.S. Figure Skating is pleased to announce the Challenge Series program. This program is open to synchronized teams at the nonqualifying levels in the Eastern, Midwestern, and Pacific Coast sections. EVENT OVERVIEW & ENTRY FEE: Teams will register with U.S. Figure Skating as participants, in the series. There will be a one-time entry fee of $85 per team to cover administrative fees and the cost of awards. There is no per-skater fee. Teams will select a minimum of three synchronized competitions they intend to compete in, and will earn points for their placements in these competitions. Points earned, per event, will be tallied and the series standings published. Teams may choose to compete in more than 3 events, with their top three finishes counting towards the series standings. In order for a team to earn points within the Synchronized Challenge Series, they must be registered with U.S. Figure Skating as a participant prior to competing in the synchronized skating competition that they plan to earn placement points from. LEVELS OFFERED: Snowplow Sam Synchro, synchro skills 1, synchro skills 2, synchro skills 3, preliminary, pre-juvenile, open juvenile, open collegiate, open adult and open masters. COMPETITIONS: Teams may enter any participating competitions they choose within their respective Section. Teams are also able to enter one competition outside of their section that will count for points. Only their top three events will be counted for points. Teams must designate the events in which they intend to compete, on their entry form. POINTS: Points earned will be weighted based on the number of teams entering any particular competition event, so the teams that place the highest in the largest group will receive the most points. Please see Chart A for details. Note that Snowplow Sam and Synchro Skills events will be conducted under the U.S. Figure Skating Synchro Skills program rules, which do not allow more than 6 teams in any group. The most points any team can receive in one competition is 10. If there are more than 10 teams in one competition group, first place will still receive 10 points. In the event of a tie in the team s total score for the series, the tie will be broken by the sum of the team s top 2 placements out of their best 3. For example, if a team receives point values of 4, 6, and 7 in their 3 series competitions, the tie breaking total would be 13. ACCOUNTING: Within 24 hours of each competition s conclusion, the Chief Accountant will be required to the event results to Sarah Arnold (sarnold@usfigureskating.org), Athlete Development Manager. U.S. Figure Skating Headquarters will track and report all series standings. AWARDS and SERIES STANDINGS: All competitors will receive a pin for participating. Teams placing 1-3 in each level will receive a medal. New this year, winners of each division will also be awarded a trophy! The standings will be published on and winners will be recognized in SKATING magazine. Participant pins will be mailed by January and medals and/or trophy will be mailed to the team contact listed on the entry form, approximately 2 weeks following the conclusion of the last event in the series.
