2 General Skating Session Safety Rules For the safety of everyone attending the skating sessions please follow these rules. Breaking the rules could result in you being asked to leave the skating floor, or the session. 1. No food or drink to be eaten on the skating floor including chewing gum, please only eat or drink in the sectioned off seating area. 2. Correct equipment should be used. Skates should be clean and safe at all times 3. Mobile phones must not be used while skating. 4. No smoking, alcohol, or illegal substances are allowed anywhere in the sports centre. 5. If you spot liquids, food or objects on the floor, please inform a member of staff immediately. 6. Non-skaters accompanying young skaters must keep to the outside of the floor near to the walls. 7. All skaters must skate in the same direction, this will normally be counterclockwise, but will be directed by the skating coaches. 8. Do not carry skaters while on the skating floor, a fall from height can cause serious injury. 9. In the event of a fire alarm the coaches will open the fire exits, and ensure everyone leaves, please remember the outside surface is rough so please take care when on skates, only take your skates off once safely out of the building, do not return to collect possessions, wait until the staff of the sports centre or coaches advise you it is safe to do so before re-entering the building. 10. Anyone seeing anyone or anything suspicious or of concern should immediately report it to a member of staff or coach. 11. Pushing, hitting, tripping, overly fast skating or any unsafe behaviour will result in you being asked to leave the skating floor for 10 minutes, repeated occurrences could result in you being asked to leave the session. 12. No bullying or fighting. 13. Please follow any other directions given by the coaches or authorised staff at all times, if a coach raises their hand and shouts stop, please leave the skating floor immediately as someone may be hurt or there may be a hazard that needs to be addressed straight away. 14. Do not take skates off on the skating area, please return to the seated area before removing your skates. 15. Do not cause an obstruction. Avoid stopping suddenly if possible, or standing still while others are skating. Do not walk across the skating area when entering or leaving the hall. If you fall and are unhurt, please get up as quickly as possible. Please remember these rules are for your safety and to ensure everyone has a fun and safe skating session. Your safety and enjoyment are our primary concern. Updated 20/08/2017
3 Policy on the use of photographs and images of children and young people Children and young people can be at risk directly or indirectly as a result of the use of photographs on sports web sites and other publications. These guidelines are as follows: if professional photographers or the press are invited to an event a clear brief as to expectation of the Federation with regard to images and Child protection photographers authorised to take photographs or video must be identified at all times and must display an identification key at all times all skater's parents and carers should be advised that a photographer (s) is(are) present and an indication of their approval advised there must be no unsupervised access to skaters on one to one photo sessions at events photo sessions outside the event or at a skater's home should only be allowed if approved by FARS all person and spectators attending an event wishing to take photographs or video recordings must be registered by the event organiser skaters, parents, carers and coaches must be diligent and inform the organisers if they have any concerns about the activities of any photographers or video operators Concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography or video recordings should be reported to the F.A.R.S. 4 Information on our Learn to skate programmes 01/09/2017 Sussex Artistic Roller Skating Club now offers three programmes of basic skills courses to suit everyone whatever their current skill level. These are open to all; however, the FARS grades require that you join the club as a member. 1. BRFS Basic skills grades - Suitable for anyone, even if you haven't skated before. These grades will be run on a regular basis in the general session, they are a 5-week course that people can sign up for, in these sessions you will do the BRFS grades 1-5 which are suitable for quad and inline skates and cover the basics of falling, getting up, starting to skate and progress to two-foot jumps and power slides. 2. Sussex Artistic Roller Skating Club grades - We start you off with our own club basic skills certificates and when Certificate 6 is passed, you can then move on to the Grade Badges issued by the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating if you wish to. 3. FARS basic skills grades to Gold level tests - If you want to start on the path to competitive dance or free skating we invite you to become a member and can then take FARS grades 1-6 Grades 1-5 can be assessed by our qualified coaches, grade 6 will be judged on a test day by an external FARS Judge.
