3 Rules, Regulations & General Information For All competitors and spectators, please read carefully before submitting entries and packages. 1. All Pro/Am teachers, professionals, and amateur couples are required to have a 2016 Registration Number with the NDCA. (Pro/Am students do not need to be registered.) Register online: For more information on NDCA registration, contact: Eleanor Wiblin NDCA Registrar PO Box 22018, Provo, UT, (801) Material danced should be based on the NDCA approved syllabi. Lifts are allowed only in solo exhibitions. All Closed categories will be invigilated for compliance with the NDCA approved syllabus lists. 3. Teachers can only have one (1) entry per dance, level and age combination. 4. Pro/Am Competitors and Student/Student Competitors are allowed to dance two (2) consecutive divisions. For example, a student may dance all the Bronze (pre-bronze, intermediate bronze, full bronze and open bronze) divisions plus all of the Silver Divisions. Newcomers may dance Newcomer through Open Bronze. 5. Adult Amateur Competitors may dance in any two (2) consecutive age categories for which they are age-eligible. Preteen/Junior/Youth Amateur Competitors may dance in their correct age category plus one (1) age category older. Preteen competitors, whether in Pro/Am or Amateur events, must dress according to current NDCA dress code, regardless of age category of entry. Amateur Competitors may dance any 2 consecutive proficiency levels in a given style; proficiency levels may be different in different styles. 6. Solos are limited to 4 (four) per student. The maximum duration per solo is 3 minutes, including entrance and exit. You must provide your own music on an individually labeled cd with student s name and solo number. Please note on the entry form if you want your solos to be danced on Thursday morning (T), or Friday morning (F), or any morning Thursday or Friday (A). The five solo routines with the highest average scores will be invited to compete in the Top Solo Grand Prix on Friday Evening to determine the Overall Top Solo for the 2016 Hawai i Star Ball. 7. Scholarships: In order to register for a scholarship, student must dance a full round of single dance entries in the same category and level as the scholarship. A full round shall be 4 Smooth single dances or 5 Ballroom, Latin, or Rhythm Single Dances. 8. The organizer reserves the right to cancel any event -- Pro/Am, Amateur, Student/Student or Professional -- with fewer than three (3) entries. Every reasonable effort will be made to notify any affected competitor of such cancellation. The organizer may also choose to combine events by merging age or proficiency levels of events with fewer than 3 entries without prior notification to the competitors. 9. The organizer reserves the right to lower prize money awarded in events with fewer than 3 entrants by ½ the amount promised. 10. No responsibility for loss of theft of articles left in changing rooms, ballrooms, or hotel rooms can be accepted by The Hawai i Star Ball, by the organizer, David Alvarez, or any of his officers, or by the NDCA Inc., and neither can they be held liable for injury sustained by persons attending the event. Everyone attending The Hawai i Star Ball does so at his or her own risk. All persons attending The Hawai i Star Ball, whether as spectators, competitors, officials or guests shall be bound by current NDCA rules and, by participating in any capacity in The Hawai i Star Ball, will be obliged to adhere to them. 11. HOTEL The closing date for hotel reservations is August 28, 2016 to guarantee a room at the Sheraton Waikiki. Our room block is limited, so please make reservations early, and mention the Hawai i Star Ball to get the correct room rate. All hotel reservations are the responsibility of the participants unless on VIP package. There are a limited number of rooms available 3 days before and after the competitions dates. Please book you rooms early. 12. PAYMENT POLICIES The closing date for all entries is August 22, Late entries will be accepted if the schedule is unaffected by the late entry. Late entries will be subject to a $50/couple late fee. Entries remaining unpaid on August 22, 2016 will be assessed a late fee. Payment must accompany entry forms. Entries are not considered to be complete without payment. Entries and/or payments made after September 1, 2016, must be in the form of a Certified or Cashiers Check or Credit Card. No personal or business checks will be accepted after September 1, Entries will not be accepted on the phone. Faxed or ed entries will only be accepted with a JCB, American Express, Discover, VISA or MasterCard payment. You will receive confirmation of your entries and packages. Please check very carefully that no mistakes have been made. Credit Card Payments will be assessed a 3% non-refundable administration fee. Make checks payable to: Hawai`i Star Ball Mail all entries and payments to: Hawai'i Star Ball Entry Processing 115 Via Lee Santa Barbara, CA REFUND POLICIES Packages, entries and room reservations can be cancelled, in writing, until four (4) weeks prior to the event. Refunds are subject to a $100 service charge. Refunds will be made within 30 days after the event. Entries scratched or missed during the event are non-refundable. No cancellations will be accepted after August 20 th, Page B.1

4 Top Awards & Prize Money Hawai i Star Ball Top Teacher, Top Students and Top awards are based on both entries and placements. Each entry, whether for single dance, multi-dance challenge or scholarship event will receive a single entry point. Placement points will be awarded according to the following schedule: 1-2 Dance events 1 st = 8pts 2 nd =7pts 3 rd =6pts 4 th =5pts 5 th =4pts 6 th =3pts 7 th =2pts 8 th =1pt plus 4pts/recall 3-5 Dance events 1 st =20pts 2 nd =15pts 3 rd =10pts 4 th =8pts 5 th =6pts 6 th =4pts 7 th =2pts 8 th =2pts plus 5pts/recall The 2016 Hawai i Star Ball will award the following Top Teacher awards 1 st Place (minimum 350 pro/am entries): $7,000* 2 nd Place (minimum 250 pro/am entries): $4,000* 3 rd Place (minimum 200 pro/am entries): $3,000* 4 th Place (minimum 150 pro/am entries): $2,000 5 th Place (minimum 100 pro/am entries): $1,500 6 th Place (minimum 100 pro/am entries): $1,000 7 th Place (minimum 50 pro/am entries): $500 8 th Place (minimum 50 pro/am entries): $400 9 th Place (minimum 50 pro/am entries): $ th Place (minimum 50 pro/am entries): $ Places will be awarded; however only the amount of money qualified for will be given out. For example if the 1 st place Top Teacher has only 300 pro/am entries, he or she will receive $4,000, not $7,000. In the same scenario, if the 2 nd place Top Teacher also has 300 pro/am entries, he or she will also earn $4,000. If all minimum pro/am entries are met, then the prize money will be awarded by placement as determined by points earned. 10 Formation Team Entry Form Name of Routine Team Director Type of Routine (e.g Smooth/Standard Medley, Mixed Medley, Latin, etc. Age Category - please circle the appropriate age category Pre-Teen (0-11) Junior (12-15) Youth (16-18) Adult (19+) Formations will take place during the Saturday Matinee Session. Teams must consist of at last 4 dancers. Routines are limited to four (4) minutes (including walk-on and walk-off). Lifts and drops are not permitted for Pre-Teens, Juniors, and Youths. Music must be on a CD label with group name and the name of the routine and delivered to the Music Director at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time. Formation team must comply with all other applicable NDCA rules and regulations. All Team Members must complete the Release Agreement on Page E11 and include with Registration.
