1 JUNIOR ONE TERMINOLOGY: To be demonstrated only, facing the barre and to be executed on both feet SINGLE SOUNDS Step: a change of weight from one foot to the ball of the other foot, making one sound Toe Tap: a knee movement; strike the tip of the toe on the floor and release it immediately. 9 INTERMEDIATE ONE Under the terminology section of the Intermediate division, a student must be able to demonstrate and give the verbal meaning of all the sounds from the previous levels. Also, counting is required. A student will be given a two bar tap step and will be asked to count it out loud. DOUBLE SOUNDS Single Pick up: spring into the air from one foot, brush the ball of the same foot backward and land on the ball of the same foot, Pick up Change: spring into the air, brush the ball of the same foot backwards and land on the ball of the opposite foot, Trench: spring into the air while scraping the outer edge of the supporting foot or take off foot in an outward action to the side, and land on the ball of the opposite foot. Weight must cross the center line. *(a pick-up trench has a brush) Toe Stand / Double Toe Stand: as in prev. level but can be done from a step, or like a releve on one foot, or both feet together Double Toe Drops: Drop one toe twice, or alternate feet Hop Flap: A combination of a hop and a forward brush with the take off foot Done on one foot, TRIPLE SOUNDS Preparation for Wing: Double Wing: spring into the air from both feet simultaneously scraping the outer edge of both feet outwards, brushing both feet in and landing on the balls of both feet-hop Double Cramp: Hop followed by two heel drops Leap Double Cramp: Leap followed by two heel drops, Jump Double Cramp: Jump followed by two heel drops,(the heels can be together or alternating feet.) 3 Count \yalking Riff: riff forward, step & a 1 MULTIPLE SOUNDS AH cramprolls can be classified as multiple sounds providing they are done in one count or less. Hop Cramproll: Hop, toe dig, heel drop, heel drop. The first heel drop is the same foot that you began the hop on. Count: (in 2 beats): 1 and a 2 or and 1 and 2,(in 1 beat): a and a 1 *The hop cramproll changes feet. Flap Cramproll; Forward brush followed by a simple cramproll Count: (in 2 beats): & 1 and a 2 or (in one beat): and a and a 1 or a&aal Shuffle Cramproll: Shuffle followed by a simple cramproll Count: (in 2 beats): and 1 a and a 2 or (in 1 beat): and a a and a 1
10 Multiple Sounds (Int 1) cont. Pass Cramproll: A cramproll that travels from side to side across the centre line. This cramproll drops the outside heel first Therefore it changes weight or feet. Count: (in 2beats); and 1 and a 2, (in 1 beat): a&aal Double Flap: 2 running flaps in 1 count Counted: a and a 1 Hop Double Flap: A combination of a hop and a forward brush on one foot, followed by a running flap on the other foot. This will change weight or feet, (done in 1 count) Counted: a and a 1 5 Count Walking Riff: forward riff, heel drop, heel walk, toe drop a&aal 4 Count Walking Riff: forward riff, heel drop, step a&al AMALGAMATED TERMINOLOGY Maxiford (with pick up change) Can begin with a lep, hop, flap Double Shuffle Drawbacks: back brush, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, shuffle, heel drop, step Basic 3,4 and 5 count walking riffs Shuffle Grab-Off: shuffle pick up change, step (crosses behind) with ball change in the motion of a grapevine, a&aal, &2 MUSIC The candidate must understand what creates the difference between 4/4 Fox Trot and 4/4 Beguinne as well as clap the rhythm.
11 ADAPT TAP THEORY INTERMEDIATE TWO Terminology from all previous levels must be demonstrated and explained. Counting is also required. TRIPLE SOUNDS Pick up Cramp: single pick up followed by a heel drop Pick up Change Cramp: pick up change followed by a heel drop Single wing: spring into the air simultaneously scraping the outer edge of the shoe outwards, brush the ball of the foot inwards and land on the ball of the same foot Riffell: forward riff followed by a back brush Hop Flap Cramp: hop flap followed by a heel drop Swap Wing: similar to a single wing but land on the opposite foot MULTIPLE SOUNDS Assemble Cramprolls (with brush and/or skuff): scuff or brush followed by a hop cramproll. The first heel drop is the same foot you began the hop on. This cramproll changes feet. Counted: and a and a 1 Pick up cramproll: single pick up, toe dig, heel drop, heel drop. You must drop the same heel first that you land the single pick up on- Counted (in 2 counts): and 1 and a 2, (in one count): a&aal Pick up change cramproll: pick up change, toe dig, heel drop, heel drop. The first heel drop is the heel of the same foot that you land on from the pick up change. The pick up change cramproll does not change feet. Counted (in 2 counts): and 1 and a 2, (in 1 count): a&aal 4 Count Double pick up: brush back, pick up change, step (a and a 1) Basic Seven Count Walking riff: Maxiford, Cramp: maxiford with a heel drop, usually before th toe tap (can also be done after the toe tap or also on the first foot.)
12 INTERMEDIATE THREE All terminology from previous levels and a thorough understanding of counting. TRIPLE SOUNDS Swap Wing: similar to a single wing only land on the opposite foot MULTIPLE SOUNDS Double Flap Cramproll: double flap with 2 alternate heel drops Hop Double Flap Cramproll: hop flap, flap with 2 alternating heel drops (this changes feet) AMALGAMATED TERMINOLOGY Grab-off Cramproll: grab off followed by 2 alternating heel drops (drop the heel of the foot that does the shuffle or the foot that lands the pick up; it's the same) Riffell Drawback: forward riff, followed by a backward brush, heel drop, step Wing Cramp: single wing followed by a heel drop Swap Wing Cramp: swap wing followed by a heel drop Cincinarti Pick up: brush back, buck, shuffle, single pick up, step Shuffle Draw Back with 7 Count Walking Riff: back brush, heel drop, shuffle, heel and 7 count walking riff MUSIC Each student will be required to clap and count a number of bars within various time signatures. As well, a candidate will be asked to count an 8 bar section of the unseen combination. AH steps in this level are based on rhythm and musical ability plus knowledge of counting. Students must show clarity and shading of footwork. AH steps must be stylized and show an ease of movement throughout. Quality and clarity of footwork, lightness and a strong sense of rhythm and style is necessary at the level to enhance the student's advancement.
