3 Dear Teachers, Parents and Dancers, We are pleased to announce the Taipei Feis 2013, which will take place on Sunday 1 st December We would like to welcome dancers from all regions to participate at our feis this year, which will be held in the CPC Corps. Guo- guang Conference Hall, a wonderful venue situated in the heart of Taipei s downtown district. We are delighted to welcome Margaret Cleary ADCRG from Los Angeles as our judge this year. All 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in trophy competitions will be awarded a trophy and the 1st place winner will also receive a sash. All 1st places in traditional set dance competitions will receive a trophy. Every dancer who attends our feis is a prizewinner as medals are awarded for every place. We will also run grade exams the day before the feis on Saturday 30 th November, from preliminary grade up to grade 6. The purpose of the Grade Examination Scheme is to provide a structured framework within which dancers can progress towards an achievable goal. Upon completion grade exam attendees will receive an official An Coimisiun certificate indicating their final grade results along with a written evaluation of their exam performance. The closing date for grade exam applications is 20th October Taipei is a wonderful city for sightseeing and shopping. It has a wide variety of great hotels and restaurants to suit everyone. We look forward to welcoming dancers from all regions and our teachers and students will be happy to help you in any way we can to make your visit and experience an enjoyable one. 8 Rialacha na Feise - Feis Rules 1. Entries will only be accepted from dancing teachers currently registered with An Coimisiún le Gaelacha for the years 2013/ Ages to be taken from 1st January 2013 (Whatever age you turn in 2012, you dance under that age, e.g. your date of birth is 16th April 2002, you dance Under 11 all year long). 3. All levels are open to ALL REGIONS. 4. If a Beginner competition has 6 competitors or more, the first 2 places advance to the next grade regardless of ties. If a beginner competition has 11 competitors or more, the first 3 places advance to the next grade regardless of ties (RTME ruling, Sept. 2007). 5. If a Primary competition has 6 or more dancers, the first place advances to the next grade, If a beginner competition has 11 competitors or more, the first 2 places advance to the next grade regardless of ties (RTME ruling, Jun. 2011). 6. Beginners Grade competitions are confined to dancers who have never won 1 st or 2 nd (also 3 rd prize, please refer to rule 4) in any competition for that particular dance. In Beginners Grade competitions only basic steps may be performed. 7. Primary Grade competitions are confined to dancers who have never won 1 st (or 2 nd prize, please refer to rule 5) in any competition for that particular dance other than in Beginners Grade. 8. Intermediate Grade competitions are open to all dancers who have not previously won first prize for that particular dance in Intermediate or Open Grade under the same or higher age limits. 9. Dancers will perform 32 bars in all Beginner, Primary and Intermediate solo competitions. 10. Traditional Set Dance competitions are a choice out of 7 traditional, St. Patrick s Day, Blackbird, Job of Journeywork, Garden of Daisies, King of the Fairies, Jockey to the Fair and Three Sea Captains. If you win a first place in any traditional set dance competition you move on the next level in all 6 traditional. 11. Where there are five dancers or less for Beginner, Primary and Intermediate competitions, the results will not affect their grading. 12. The Feis organizers will use 40 bars for 2 - hands and lead, body and the first figure for 4- hands and 8- hands. 13. Team dances (four hands and upward) must be performed in accordance with the An Coimisiún handbook Ar Rinci Foirne. 14. Within the limits specified in the Rules of An Coimisiún the organizers may at their discretion cancel or mixed competitions with insufficient entries.

9 15. Competitors must be in costume and ready to dance 30 minutes before their competitions are scheduled to start. 16. No refunds will be made. 17. Music will be played at the recognized Mainland European speeds: Beginners Primary Inter./Open Reel 121/ / Light Jig Slip Jig Single Jig Heavy Jig Hornpipe Objections must be lodged in writing within one hour of the announcement of the result of a competition accompanied by a fee of $25.00 USD. 19. The use of video and/or digital cameras in the hall is not permitted, except in Beginner & Primary competitions (CRLG Ruling Dec.2011). 20. Feis organizers cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained or for the loss of, or damage to property or belongings which may occur during the Feis. 21. The adjudicator s decision is final. 22. The lodgement of an entry will be taken to mean that a teacher and their pupils understand these rules and undertake to abide by them. 23. En Pointe/block work is not permitted for dancers up to and including the Under 12 age group. 24. Makeup will not be permitted for any dancer in the first two grades up to and including the Under 12 age group worldwide. 25. The dress code in accordance with An Coimisiun rules will be strictly observed i.e. for the sake of modesty, and in the interest of safety to young people dancers will not be permitted to walk around the Feis scantily dressed.
