To be eligible, skaters must have submitted a membership application or be a member in good standing. Eligibility will be based on skill level as of closing date of entries. All Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills 1-8 skaters must skate at highest level passed or one level higher and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or individual dances. Skaters may skate at highest level passed or one level higher but not both levels during the same competition. Rules: This competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the United States Figure Skating governing non-qualifying competitions, and will be governed by the official rules of the USFS as specified in the Rulebook. The 6.0 Judging System will be used for all events. Entries: Skaters may not compete in more than one category of a given event, except for solo dance. For all events where permitted by USFS, male and female skaters may compete against each other if there are insufficient entries to hold a separate event. Skaters may skate up one level higher in any event, but may not skate below their test level. Any event with a large number of entries below Juvenile will be divided into smaller groups. The competition committee reserves the right to divide or combine any event, if necessary, and to cancel any event (with full refund of entry fee) due to lack of participants. Any other refunds will be at the discretion of the Competition Committee. (Rule 3235). Please review your event selections carefully. Any change of event as a result of your mistake will result in a $25 fee for each event changed. Please make sure you complete the online registration form completely, providing your coach contact information and your USFSA Club information. Fees: $35 for First No Test, Limited Beginner or Beginner Event $40 for First Solo Event (Pre- through Adult) and/or Showcase event with more than one skater $25 for Additional Solo Event (all skating levels) $45 for each Team Compulsory Moves event $50 for each Synchronized Skating Team event PLUS $5.00 per skater (including alternates) Rinks: SUNY Potsdam, Maxcy Ice Arena s ice surface is 85' by 200' Music: Competitors are to have their music for Free skating and/or Showcase events on an Audio-CD labeled with name and home club or on a flashdrive with only the skater s name and home club clearly labeled on it. Please make sure there is only one score per Audio-CD or Flashdrive. A duplicate Audio-CD is recommended 2

3 to be rink-side to avoid problems. Audio-CD(s) and Flashdrives are to be turned in at the registration desk and will be available at the registration desk for pick up after the event. The music for the dance and interpretive events will be supplied by the competition committee and only that music will be played. Vocal music is permitted for Badge and Pre- Free skating and Showcase. While all possible care will be taken, the Potsdam FSC assumes no responsibilities or liability due to loss or damage to any CDs or Flashdrives. Accidents: SUNY Potsdam Maxcy Ice Arena, the Potsdam Figure Skating Club, and its officers and representatives, accept no responsibility for damage or injuries suffered by skater(s), official(s), or spectator(s) during any event of this competition. Awards: Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places; ribbons will be awarded for 4th and 5th places. A schedule of team points will be posted. Award ceremonies will take place off the ice and at designated times according to the schedule during the competition. Schedule: A schedule of event times should be available approximately 1 week prior to the competition date. Information will be posted on the Potsdam Figure Skating Club s webpage at Potsdam FSC cannot make changes to the posted schedule (except in the case of an error on the Club s part).the program with the final schedule including the skaters names and flights will be available at the registration desk the day of the competition. Skaters must register at least one hour prior to their competition event. Practice Ice: Will be scheduled for Synchronized Skating Teams prior to the start of the event on December 14, 2012 form 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Please see attached form for scheduling practice ice. All other events will be provided a brief warm-up prior to their scheduled event time permitting. Once in the village, make a left onto Park Street, following signs for Route 56 South. Bear slightly left onto Route 56 South. Route 56 turns into Pierrepont Avenue. From Pierrepont Avenue turn left onto Canton Drive. Take your first right hand turn (over a bridge) onto Saranac Lake Drive. Parking lot is straight ahead (lot 27). From Ogdensburg: Take Route 68 east to the Canton, NY. In Canton, take Route 11 North to Potsdam, NY. Once in the village, turn right onto 56 South. Route 56 turns into Pierrepont Avenue. 4 Test Track Free Skate Skaters may enter EITHER the new test track free skate program or the well-balanced track free skate program but NOT both during the same non-qualifying competition. Competitors will skate to music of their choice, vocal music permitted. Deductions WILL be made for skaters including technical elements not permitted in the event description. 0.1 from EACH mark for each technical element included that is not permitted in the event description. 0.2 from the technical mark for each extra element. 0.1 for any spin with less than required revolutions. Max of 3 jump combinations or Max 3 spins of a different nature: One must be a combination spin with at least one change of foot and at least one change of position (Min 5 revolutions on each foot). The other spins are the option of the skater (Min 6 revs) All spins may fly One step or spiral sequence fully utilizing ice surface. (see rule 4140 & 45 for description). (See rule 45 for description) Skaters must have passed at least the U.S. Figure Skating novice free skate test but may not have passed tests higher than junior free skate test Time: Senior Test Ladies 4:00 +/- Men 4:30+/- Max 8 jump elements for men and 7 for ladies Any single jumps. Must include at least four different double jumps, one must be a double Lutz. Men: Two different step, one being of advanced difficulty, both fully utilizing the ice surface. Patterns can be of the same nature. (See rule 45) Ladies: One step sequence of advanced difficulty, covering the full ice surface and one spiral sequence. (see rule 4140 & 45 for description). 8 INDIVIDUAL JUMP EVENT Beginner-Senior will present a program without music with the jumps specified for their level. Program times are maximums. Test requirements are the same as free skate levels. No Test through Pre-Juvenile skaters should be prepared to skate on ½ the ice surface and Juvenile through Senior will be skated on full ice. Minimal connecting steps are allowed but will not affect scoring. Only one attempt per jump is permitted. Elements with * must be preceded by footwork. 9 MUSIC INTERPRETATION Skaters may enter only one event level, either at their freeskating level or one level higher. Music is supplied by the competition committee. Skaters will hear the music twice on the ice and once off the ice before they skate for competition. Skaters will be judged on originality, musical and artistic expression and ice coverage. No costumes or props allowed. Technical elements will be judged only on their appropriateness to the music. Judges may or may not be US Figure Skating judges or Skate Canada judges. Coaching is not allowed after the event has started. Showcase numbers are considered as entertainment and will be judged in the following areas: music interpretation, audience appeal, skating performance, choreography and costume. No feathers or dangling beads that may come off the costume are allowed. Judges can be USFS judges and/or interested people from the community who may have little technical skating background. Skaters are responsible for supplying their own music. Vocal music is permitted. Levels may be combined due to lack of entries. **If this event is being used to assist in qualifying for the National Showcase please make sure you check the box indicating this on your Entryeeze Registration. Optional Showcase Event to include more than one skater can be requested. The rules and time remain the same for each level but the cost for a Showcase event with more than one skater is $40. 14 SYNCHRONIZED SKATING Entry fees: All Synchronized Teams are $50 per team and $5 per skater No fees will be refunded for teams cancelling after the deadline date of November 22, Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the referee and will be charged a late fee of $25. Practice ice fees $25 for 12 minute segments for entries received before November 22, 2013 and on a first come first serve basis. Practice ice will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on the morning of the competition. General Rules: The 30 th Potsdam Snowflake Invitational is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and will be conducted under the rules set forth in the 2013 edition of the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook and this announcement. Particular note should be taken of these sections: Rule 3070: Eligibility to compete Rule 2056: Events to be skated Rules : Requirements for each level Rule 29: Duration and Warm-up Periods of Synchronized Team Skating Rule 7020: Clothing - Synchronized Team Skating Rule 7021: The costume of the competitors must be modest, dignified, and appropriate for athletic competition, not garish or theatrical in design. The costume may, however, reflect the character of the music chosen. A. Ladies may wear a skirt or body suits or full-length trousers. Ladies skirts must not be below the top of the calf of the legs for safety reasons. B. Men must wear full-length trousers; no tights are permitted. C. The costume must not give the effect of excessive nudity for an athletic sport. The costume and make-up must not be theatrical and must not highlight any skater. D. Headdresses must be kept to a minimum. Any ornamentation attached to clothing or head must be firmly fastened so as not to fall off while skating under normal competitive conditions. There can be no props on the ice and hand props such as banners, canes, or pompoms are not permitted. Rule 7022: Sequins, rhinestones or jeweled trim may be used in moderation on the clothing of senior, junior and collegiate synchronized skating teams only. This adornment is allowed on the bodice only. Sleeves and skirts are to be void of adornment. Feathers or other materials that could be dislodged upon contact are not allowed. The use of adornments at all other levels is prohibited. Rule 7024: The use of hair pins and bobby pins is prohibited while skating in any synchronized skating competition. Liability: U.S. Figure Skating, Potsdam FSC, and SUNY Potsdam, Maxcy Ice Arena accepts no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the 2013 edition of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. Judging System: All synchronized events will be judged using the 6.0 judging system. 14

The purpose for the competition is to promote a FUN, introductory competitive experience for the beginning skater. Block: Cover the ice and include only one configuration. d. Wheel: A 4-spoke wheel with backward pumps. e. Intersection: 2 lines facing each other, forward 2-foot glide at the point of intersection. RESTRICTIONS: - No additional elements allowed. - Holds may only include shoulder-to-shoulder and hand-to-hand. - No changes or direction and traveling within elements. - No steps or moves in Basic 6 or higher. B. Basic Skills Beginner 2 A team of 8 to 16 skaters. The majority of the team must be 9 11 years old on the preceding July 1. Program duration: 1 ½ - 2minutes +/- sec. Required elements: a. It does not need to be repeated, and does not need to be done in both directions. These levels are part of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program. Basic Skills competition guidelines will be used. There will be no more than 6 teams in each group, and judges must only be members of U.S. Figure Skating at least 16 years old. If there are not enough entries, Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 can be combined, at the discretion of the chief referee. 15

The majority of the team must be under 19 on the preceding July 1. All skaters must have passed the pre-preliminary moves in the field test. Program duration: 2 ½ minutes. Well balanced program: Rule 7250 D. Juvenile: A team of 12 to 20 skaters. Skaters must be under 13 on the preceding July 1 and have passed the preliminary moves in the field test. Program duration: 3 minutes. Well balanced program: Rule 7240 E. Adult Open: A team of 8 to 16 skaters. The majority of skaters must be 19 years or older on the preceding July 1. Program duration: 2 ½ minutes. Well balanced program: Rule 7520 Awards: Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Music: Rules governing music selection can be found in the U.S. Figure Skating rulebook, rules Only or CDs (standard Compact Disk format) will be accepted. CDs: Must be clearly marked with name, event entered and the music length and contained in a hard sided jewel case. Due to compatibility and reliability reasons no music may be submitted on re-recordable CDRW discs. Competition music must be turned in at the registration desk upon registration. Teams must also have an extra copy available at rink side during the actual competition event. The organizing committee will not accept responsibility for damage or loss of music but will take every precaution to ensure its safety.
