1 DEBORAH BURGOYNE NORTH AMERICAN INVITATIONAL (20 TH ANNIVERSARY) Wyandotte Figure Skating Club SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17 TH & 18 TH, 2018 US Figure Skating Sanction #26245 Skate Canada Sanction # The Deborah Burgoyne North American Invitational will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-u.s. Citizens. ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL: Skaters must be amateur registered members of U.S. Figure Skating and shall compete at their test level as of January 20, 2018 or one level above, but not both. Skaters must not compete below their test level. At the referee s discretion, men and women may be combined into a single event, and events may be divided or combined by age group, or canceled. Events are governed by the rules of that event as set forth by U.S. Figure Skating including changes from 2017 Governing Council. ENTRIES: Online Registration at is preferred. Checks and voucher still need to be printed and mailed. All entries must be postmarked no later than January 20, Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Committee and will require a $25.00 late entry fee. Any change to skating level or event after the deadline is subject to a $15.00 administration fee. A $25.00 service fee will be assessed for returned/nsf checks. If these fees apply they must be paid before the skater competes. AGE CATEGORIES: The following age categories apply to all events: Young Adult: 18 to 20 years Class I: 21 to 35 years Class II: 36 to 45 years Class III: 46 to 55 years Class IV: 56 to 65 years Class V: 66 years and over

2 FACILITIES: All events will be held at the Benjamin F. Yack Recreation Center, rd Street, Wyandotte, Michigan. Wyandotte is located 20 miles southwest of Detroit, with the closest airport being Detroit Metro. The ice surface measures 85 wide by 185 long, with rounded corners and a hockey barrier. Dressing Rooms will be available. MUSIC: The official competition music must be turned in at the registration table at the time of check-in. A duplicate CD should be readily available. CDs must contain one 1 (one) track readable on a standard CD player. Music may be picked up at the registration table following each event. Every reasonable care will be taken, but the Wyandotte FSC cannot be responsible for CDs left at the end of the competition. Please have separate CDs for practice and competition. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, (Wyandotte Figure Skating Club), and (Benjamin F. Yack Recreation Center) accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. JUDGING SYSTEM: IJS will be used for the Free Skating events at the Silver through Masters levels for SINGLES FREESKATING EVENTS ONLY and the 6.0 Majority Judging System will be used for ALL other events. All competitors skating in these events need to submit the planned program content form online. This form is found in the Member s Only section at The deadline to submit the form is February 1, REGISTRATION: Registration will be open one hour before the first event and run through the last event of the day. The registration table will be located in Small Warming Room (inside the arena, next to the concession stand). Competitors must check in at least 1 hour before their event. PRACTICE ICE: You will be notified of practice schedules and tentative competition schedule as soon as it is provided by the referee. It will be posted on No music will be played on practice ice. SCRATCHES: If you become unable to compete, please be courteous to your fellow competitors and organizing committee by contacting wyandotteskater@msn.com as soon as possible. No refunds will be issued for scratched events. AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to 1 st through 4 th places. the time of the award ceremonies. Check the awards schedule for OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official bulletin board will be maintained in the Registration Room (located inside the arena.) It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive one hour prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition.

3 INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES: U.S. Figure Skating Rule MR 5.11 Coach Compliance In order to be granted access to work within U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned activities, each coach must complete the following requirements on an annual basis by July 1: A. Must be a current full member of U.S. Figure Skating - either through a member club or as an individual member; B. Must complete the coach registration process through the U.S. Figure Skating Members Only site, submit proper payment for the annual registration fee of $30 and, if 18 years of age or older, successfully pass the background screen. C. Must complete the appropriate CER courses (A,B, C or D) depending on the highest level of students being coached as of July 1. See rule MR D. Must submit proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. The local organizing committee/club will have a list of compliant coaches who are cleared for a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure Skating events without compliance is an ethics violation which is reported to U.S. Figure Skating and PSA. Dramatic Skate, Light Entertainment Skate, and Duet events are separate events, and a skater may enter any or all of these events. Format: Dramatic Skate: Programs should express intense emotional connection and investment in the music, choreography and theme concept through related skating movements, gestures and physical actions. Light Entertainment Skate: Showcase program that should express a carefree concept or storyline designed to uplift and entertain the audience through related skating movements, gestures and physical actions. Props and Scenery are permitted. Please refer to the National Showcase guidelines for specifics on props, scenery, and costumes. Technical skating skills and difficulty will not be rewarded. Jump difficulty is not rewarded in showcase; therefore, jumps, if choreographed, should be performed with style, flow, and confidence. The 6.0 judging system will be used. One mark will be awarded by each judge for each performance. No technical skating mark will be awarded.

Programs should incorporate various elements of expressive movement and skating moves, to enhance the skater s interpretation of the music, rather than technical elements. The music will be played during a 30-minute off-ice session and twice during an on-ice warm-up prior to the performance. o The room will be attended only by the adult monitor assigned to play the music and the competing skaters in that group. Skaters after the warm up will go back to a room, with no music being played. Skaters will be brought to the ice when the previous skater finishes. All competitors in an event will interpret the same music. Props are permitted but must be brought into the room prior to listening to the music, and be taken to the ice only when the skater is called to perform. Props may not be prepositioned on the performance surface. Current guidelines and procedures for non-qualifying showcase competitions can be found at under Programs on the National Showcase page. Masters - Skaters must meet the requirements of the Adult Gold Free skate or any Masters Pairs event or have passed one Pre-Gold Dance Test. Adult - Skaters must meet the requirements of the Adult Bronze free skating or Pairs event, or the complete Pre-Bronze dance test. Skaters may not exceed the Adult Gold Free skate or any Masters Pairs event, or any Pre-Gold Dance test.

6 Adult Competition Series: This competition is participating in the inaugural season of the Adult Competition Series. The Adult Competition Series was developed to provide a series of events for Adult 1 through Adult Bronze levels. Skaters will accumulate points based upon placement in the Free Skate and Compulsory Moves events. Skaters must compete in both the compulsory moves and the free skate event in at least two participating competitions during the Series season with one of the competitions being the Nonqualifying competition associated to the Adult Sectional Championships in their home section; however only the skater s best three point finishes (calculated by adding the points from the compulsory moves event and the free skate event together and in case there are multiple events with the same point total, the events with the better tie-breaker results will be counted) will be used towards their total point accumulation to determine the final Adult Competition Series winners in each section. Skaters must be registered ($20 fee) with USFSA for the Adult Competition Series before participating at DBNAI to have their points earned collected. Please review the Adult Competition Series Handbook for the complete list of rules and to register for the series at

The second mark shall be for program components. General event parameters: The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted to the number of times element is executed, or length of glides, number of revolutions, etc. unless otherwise stated. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program. The minimum number of required spin revolutions is indicated in parentheses following the spin description. Revolutions must be in position.
