1 FIGURE SKATING - FEMALE AGE GROUP(S) years of age as of July 1, years of age as of February 6, ZONE TEAM COMPOSITION The maximum team size shall be: 8 competitors per zone (8 female) 1 coach per zone (1 female) 1 chaperone per zone (1 female) The maximum team size shall be: 1 competitor per SO Level per zone 1 coach per SO Level per zone (3 female) (3 female) FILL POLICY There will be no fill policy in effect. The only exception will apply in the case of a second place tie broken by the referee at a zone competition. In that case, an athlete ranked third will be eligible as a fill if any zone that cannot fill a complete team. If a athlete cannot fill their zone position, then an eligible athlete will fill the position based on the following order: A athlete from the host community. A athlete from the host zone. A athlete from the zone that has the highest number of participants. A athlete from another SO affiliate. 2 FIGURE SKATING - FEMALE, ELIGIBILITY Athletes Skaters must meet the minimum standards set by the Alberta Winter Games Committee for all athletes. Athletes shall compete in the zone in which she resides. For Alberta Games Eligibility Policy information please visit Coaches NCCP Certification Coaches must be a minimum of Level 1/Primary STARSkate Certified and must meet the following accreditation standards: Be a current professional coaching member of Skate Canada Hold a valid First Aid certificate Coaches team coaches must also be Competition Introduction Trained under the National Coaching Certification Program. Only the assigned team coaches with proper coaching accreditation at the Alberta Winter Games will be allowed at rinkside during warm up and competition. All coaches and chaperones must be at least eighteen (18) years old by the start of the Alberta Games. AFFILIATION Only current amateur members of Skate Canada who are in good standing may compete in the Alberta Winter Games. Members in good standing will have paid their current membership fee to Skate Canada through their home club. PROVINCIAL GAMES REGISTRATION FEE AND DEADLINE All zone team competitors, who qualify to compete at the 2014 Alberta Winter Games (excluding coaches and chaperones), are required to pay an individual registration fee of $ This fee will go towards offsetting the costs related to transportation, accommodation, meals, zone identification, medals, athlete entertainment and sport competitions. This fee must accompany the athlete s registration form for the Provincial Games. 3 FIGURE SKATING - FEMALE, EVENT(S) Junior Bronze Ladies Freeskate: A 2.0 minute (+/- 10 seconds) freeskate program to music. All competitors must have passed Skate Canada Junior Bronze Free Skate test but no higher complete freeskate test. Skaters must follow the Skate Canada Junior Bronze Well Balanced Program Criteria. Senior Bronze Ladies Freeskate: A 2.5 minute (+/- 10 seconds) freeskate program to music. All competitors must have passed Skate Canada Senior Bronze but no higher complete freeskate test. Skaters must follow the Skate Canada Junior Bronze Well Balanced Program Criteria. Juvenile U14 Ladies Singles: A 2.5 minute (+/- 10 seconds) freeskate program to music. All competitors must have passed Skate Canada Juvenile Singles Competitive Test but no higher complete competitive singles test. Pre-Novice Ladies Singles: A 3.0 minute (+/- 10 seconds) freeskate program to music. 4 FIGURE SKATING FEMALE, SPECIAL OLYMPICS EVENT(S) Level 1 Eligibility: A skater competing in Level 1 must be working on the elements for Level 1 but no higher. This level is intended for the skater that has passed CANSkate Stage 1, but no higher than Stage 3. Level 1 Freeskate Program: The freeskate program will not exceed a time limit of one minute (+/ - 10 seconds). Music must be instrumental. The program must be well balanced and include items from each of the categories listed below. No element can be repeated more than twice, and if repeated it must be used in combination or sequence. This level is intended for the skater who has passed CANSkate Stage 4, but no higher than Stage 5. Level 2 Freeskate Program: The Level 2 freeskate program will not exceed a time limit of 1 minute 30 seconds (+/- 10 seconds). Music must be instrumental. This event is intended for skaters who have passed Stage 6 and are entering into the STARSkate Test Program. Level 3 Freeskate Program: The Level 3 freeskate program must not exceed the time limit of 1 minute 30 seconds (+/- 10 seconds). Music must be instrumental. The program must be well balanced and include items from each of the categories listed below: Skate forward Backward Spin Jump (Maximum 4 jumps) Turn Spirals/Footwork Forward Edges (Inside and Outside) Inside Spread Eagle Crossovers Backward Slalom (One Foot) Backward Drag Sit Spin Backspin Waltz Jump (required) Salchow Toe Loop Half-Flip Half-Lutz 1 combination or sequence Forward Mohawk Backward Three-Turns Footwork Forward or Backward Spiral The skater is not required to perform a set number of skills, however the skater will be judged on the quality of the performance and the content. No elements above their respective levels are to be included in the program. A mandatory 0.2 deduction will be made for each illegal element and these elements will not be scored in the value of the program. (Example: a skater performs an illegal jump they receive a 0.2 deduction for an illegal move and they lose a jump element from their program as the jump is not counted. 7 GE FIGURE SKATING FEMALE, ENTRY AND ZONE PLAYOFF PROCEDURES For the Juvenile U14 and Pre-Novice categories, skaters will be selected for the Alberta Winter Games from the results of the 2014 Sectional Championships. Skaters will declare their eligibility for consideration to compete at the same time that they register for the 2014 Skate Canada: Alberta NWT/Nunauvt Sectional Championships. For Juvenile U14 and Pre-Novice categories, the top 2 skaters in each category from each zone will be determined based on points from the officials results at the 2014 Skate Canada: Alberta NWT/Nunavut Sectional Championships. The selection for the Pre-Novice women will begin from the fifth placing skater. Pre-Novice women who are attending Challenge as part of the Select Team are ineligible. For Junior Bronze and Senior Bronze categories, a free skating competition will be held in each zone, should there be sufficient numbers to warrant it, otherwise zones will be combined. The top 2 competitors in each of the Junior Bronze and Senior Bronze categories and the top Special Olympics skaters will comprise the Alberta Winter Games team. Ties and Alternates : If after the zone playoff competitions, a competitor withdraws from an event prior to January 18, 2014, the next placed competitor in that event may replace the withdrawn competitor. If a tie occurs, review the tie breaking procedure to decide the alternate. In the case of a tie for first place, both first place skaters will advance, the third place skater becomes an alternate. In the case of a tie for second place, the placing of the referee will break the tie.
