Learn to Skate: Parent/Tot Learn to Skate with your young child. Learning with a parent can make it more enjoyable for the parent and the child. Basic skills are taught to both skaters. Learn to Skate: Beginner Just Starting? This beginner class focuses on fun and safety. Skaters will learn basic safety guidelines while on the ice as well as forward skating and forward gliding. If you have never taken lessons before, we recommend that you take this class first. Learn to Skate: Pre-Alpha Once your feet are firmly planted on the ground, or rather the ice, Pre-Alpha is the class for you! Participants learn to glide on two feet and then on each foot independently. Skaters are also taught the introductory edge moves known as swizzles and wiggles! Skaters must pass Pre-Alpha before entering the Alpha class. Learn to Skate: Alpha Now that you are really moving, you are ready for Alpha class! Students learn forward stroking and crossovers. Skaters are introduced to skating in both clockwise and counterclockwise Skating Hockey Programs Programs Skating Programs RDVSportsplex.com Summer

Learn to Skate: Beta With forward skating mastered, Beta class is the next step! Backward stroking and crossovers in both directions are the primary focus of the class. Participants are also introduced to another method of stopping with their blades. Skaters must pass Beta before entering the Gamma class. Learn to Skate: Gamma Beginning skills are under your belt, so you are now ready for Gamma! Skaters are taught basic turning skills such as forward outside three turns, mohawks and hockey stops! Skaters at this level can skate forward and backward, so the Gamma class concentrates on maneuvers that enable the skater to shift properly from forward to backward skating. Gamma class introduces techniques and moves that help skaters transition back and forth on their edges. Learn to Skate: Delta Basic turns are refined in the Delta class. Inside three turns and forward edges are introduced to help skaters develop control, edge quality and flow. Coaches focus on proper balance and body alignment. Learn to Skate: Synchronized Skating Skaters will learn the basics of synchronized skating while also improving basic skating skills needed to move up through the levels of our Learn to Skate program. The skaters will learn basic synchronized elements such as blocks, wheels, circles, and intersections. Skaters will learn to skate in unison to a tempo. Skaters will learn basic hand and arm hold positions. Skaters will have the opportunity to learn and practice a program that will be performed in our RDV Sportsplex Ice Show or RDV Sportsplex Competition (additional cost). Skaters who pay full price for the Learn to Skate Synchronized Skating class may choose to enroll in our Saturday Learn to Skate class at 11:15am for half off the regular enrollment price.
