If you are a regular reader of this newsletter you may have noticed that many of the want ads that had been posted for several months were removed from the last issue. The policy going forward is to allow posting of a free ad for 2 months. Additional time will have to be requested and will be considered by the editor. On this Fourth of July, I m reminded of the 56 brave and honorable men who signed the Declaration of Independence. Many of them suffered terribly for that extraordinary act. Freedom is never free. 3 3 A couple of messages from Lyne Biesemeier - Lyne has asked us to let the membership know that the welding equipment that belonged to Dave is available to someone, if they will make a donation to the chapter scholarship fund. It is located in Gene Horsman s hangar at the Erie Airport. Please contact Gene at if you would like to look at it. Also, she reports that she and seven other members of the family will be at Oshkosh for the Memorial Wall Service, where Dave s name will be inscribed, on August 3rd. If any of the chapter members are still there that weekend, her family would really like to meet them. (Editor s note: I plan to be there on that Sunday, and I know of a few others who will probably be there also. It would be great to have a good showing to honor our friend and past President on that day.)

5 5 Latest Updates and Information By Scott Serani Our Saturday, June 7 th gathering was all about work on the Gyro and B25. Final clean up on the Gyro generated a list of last few components needed in order to try and fire up the engine in our upcoming July 5 th work session. More riveting, back drilling and dimpling of two large portions of the B25 skin was completed. What a great work crew we have! Our June 21 st meeting was held at Lynn and Pat Miller s home and started off with Kanyon and Egan presenting a class on Aerodynamics they did a great job in preparation and presentation. Nice job guys it was rewarding to see two of you who had never really met each other before Young Aviators figure out how to get together in the off hours and jointly prepare a great ground school that included bringing balsa wood rubber band airplanes for all. Doug Montgomery was introduced to everyone as one of our newest adult coordinators who has accepted the challenge of being the focal point to find parts and materials for our YA projects. Doug is now establishing a communications mechanism for all of us in charge of various elements of the projects to feed him our needs/wishes and try and find them in the most economical means possible. The rest of the gathering was a special farewell picnic in honor of Destiney Krell. About 40 people were in attendance (Aviators and families) to say thank you to Destiney for being the inspiration to this group 5 years ago and to wish her the best as she now heads off to Florida and embark on her Embry Riddle chapter of her life. Destiney there are an awful lot of young people (and adults as well) who have you to thank for what this group has become! A special thank you also to Lynn and Pat Miller for hosting the picnic -- and to Pat Miller for her effort in putting together a 14 minute video collage of Young Aviators pictures that dates back to the beginning it is a very touching, reminiscent video. Special Congratulations to Ashley Redding who was unable to attend the going away picnic for Destiney because she was competing in the US Open Team Hanmadang Championships (Taekwondo) in Colorado Springs. Ashley took a fourth place on Friday and a Silver Medal on Saturday! Way to go Ashley! OUR NEXT FORMAL MEETINGS: July 5th 11:00a - 2:00p Meet at the McEwen hangar for project work on the Gyrocopter and B25. July 19th 11:00a - 2:00p Meet at the McEwen hangar for a Ground School Class on Airspace being presented by John Kellogg (alias LJ ) followed by project work. Because our regularly scheduled 1 st Saturday meeting in August (8/2) may be interrupted by Oshkosh AirVenture that week, special emphasis with be given to readying all materials for the August 9 th Erie Airfare (see below). Erie Airfare August 9 th -- The Young Aviators will be showing off and demonstrating all of their projects (Simulators, Gyrocopter, B25, etc.) in an effort to entice other youngsters to join the group.
