I would like to report that the 3 rd annual Chili fly chaired by Jim Soque was huge success. After being postponed due to weather, it was held on Sunday Jan 16 th. The club and board want to give Jim, all the people that helped and the members that braved the freezing temps, a huge THANKS!!!! It s WRAM show time again. The Suffolk Falcons will be sponsoring another bus trip on Saturday February 26, The per seat ticket price will be $25 including soft drinks and bottled water. The trip itinerary will be the same as last year. Depart Westhampton Gabreski bus station at 8:00am Depart Route 112 Patchogue (old Home Depot) at 8:25am Depart South Shore Mall at 8:50am Arrive at the WRAM show at 10:30am Depart WRAM show 3:00pm Drop off at all pickup points The 56 seat coach will be provided by Hampton Jitney. If you are interested contact Mark Santora via at santoraz@optonline.net and he will get your name on the list and tell you where to send the check. Nick Miceli has pre ordered tickets to the Wram show. The club is defraying half the cost for club members. He has taken preorders and if you are interested contact him. The club ordered 30 tickets and some are already spoken for. First come First serve. I know its cold out and everyone is busy building for spring! Why don t ya bring something down to the February meeting for show and tell. We have a lot of new members that would love to see what a plane looks like with no plastic covering on it. We have a lot of skilled builders and craftsman in the club. Let s share some of it. Last but not least. DUES ARE DUE. Make sure you get them in before the 10 dollar late fee kicks in. 2 From our treasurer Membership renewal time has arrived! Current members need to send a copy of the new 2011 AMA card, renewal form, check for $50.00 and a SASE to: Nick Miceli, 450 Waverly Ave, Suite 9, Patchogue, NY Don t forget: Dues should be paid by the end of December but no later than the end of February. There is a $10 penalty for late payment. The Early Spring Fashion is in!!! If you are still sporting one of the hats on the left ( or no hat at all ), it is time to upgrade to the brand new LIARS hat, on the right!!!!! The new shirts and the hats will be available for sale at the February meeting. Only a few left!!!

3 Here is the Grand Chili Master preparing the chili and a picture report of the event. The weather was perfect (maybe a tad nippy!!!), but the moods were warm and friendly.

9 by Avey Shaw Right now it is cold. The winter is coming on. I sit here in my basement pondering what my next building challenge will be. I have one of those electric space heaters that takes hours for it to get the area just warm enough for me to stop shaking which is a p r o b l e m I h a v e w h e n I a m w a r m a n y w a y. U n d e r t h e s e circumstances, it is hard to make any decisions building. When it is col d, there are some detrimental effects. Since my hands shake, I cannot cut balsa accurately. The glue takes longer to set. My brain sl ows down and I make mistakes. I have to read the instructions many times before it sinks in. Cleaning up with ac etone is brutal after painting if you get any on-you. It wil l freeze your finger nails-off. B esides, all that working in a hooded parker-does not lend itself-to building. for the first time in many, many years, I believe I will this year go by and not add anything ne w to my hangar. There are-other reasons for this decis ion. One of them is I have twenty airplan es hanging like meat carcasses in cold storage in my basement. This leaves me not too much room to move about. My wife complains I am intruding into her space down here. But the most compelling reason is A.R.F. At present most of the popular aircraft designs can be purchased in A.R.F. When they cover that list in sizes up to one-third scale they will then come out with more obscure types. I see that is happening already. I always went for the lesser known aircraft. The quality I hear is getting better. The cost to building might very well be comparable. So why then bother to build. That would be a reasonable assumption. No, not just yet for me. That would be taking too much away from the enjoyment of the hobby. I know it is not logical to someone given the facts that if you could have something ready made for approximately the same price as doing it yourself you would choose to have it ready made. Yes, and I agree. However, not in this hobby for me at this time. Yes, I believe this year will go by adding nothing to my hangar. I do have some repairs to catch up on. Avey Shaw PS:. This month I have added to the page, maybe next month it will be you.
