8 The River Suir Ireland s second longest river and world famous for its dry fly fishing. It is a wide (30m/100ft) limestone river/spring creek flowing for 114 miles to the sea at Waterford port. The river has easy access and wading is a pleasure with a level gravel bottom. are very selective, so long fine leaders are the norm with flies ranging from size 12 to 22. The River Suir produces some very large trout also which are mainly caught during the summer evenings or during the day on streamers. It is a pleasure to fish and Clonanav has access The fish average size is from 20 to 40 cm (8 to 16) inches, larger fish are also caught. With many slow glides and pools the fi sh to several private beats along its length offering a good variety of fishing.

10 The River Nire A gin clear spate/freestone river flowing from the Comeragh Mountains through the Nire Valley until its confluence with the some much larger fish. The fishing is mainly on dry fly and nymph with some streamer fishing during high water. river Suir. It is a narrow river (12 m/35 ft) with a ripple and pool formation. Access is easy/moderate but wading is over moderate sized rocks. Main hatches include BWO, Spurwings, Sedges, Stoneflies and a good deal of terrestrials. Best flies are Comparaduns, Klinkhammers, Elk hair caddis, Black gnat, small bead heads The river has a good stock of fish from 20 to 30 cm as well as

12 The River Tar A lime stone river very similar to the south of England chalkstreams. A wide (45 ft/15 m), shallow river, with a healthy growth of flowering ranunculus weed. The bottom is level, making of the Knocklmealdown mountains, through lush pasture land. A beautiful river and very similar to the chalk streams in southern England. wading easy. It is noted for its remarkable dry fly fishing due to the shallow nature of the river. The river has a good stock of fish from 20 to 30 cm as well as some much larger fish up to 45 cm The River Tar is a lowland stream flowing through the foothills

14 Salmon Fishing At Clonanav Fly Fishing you will have access to some of the best salmon fishing available in the south of the country. We have access to several beats on the Suir- over 8 miles in total. Beatsare spread along the length of the river, which means we have excellent fishing available despite water levels. The river Blackwater is only 30 mins drive from Clonanav Fly Fishing. We operate in conjunction with Fortwilliam fishery, offering guiding on their excellent beats. Fortwilliam operates 4 miles of the lower Blackwater on double bank beats. These are ideal for the avid fly angler offering excellent opportunities to fish for fresh run fish. The river Suir is the second longest river in Ireland and boasts some runs of some of the biggest fish in the country. 16 Fly Fishing School Andrew Ryan is one of Ireland s best known fly fishing instructors and guides. Owner of Clonanav Fly Fishing School and Shop he has been guiding for over 20 years on the river Suir and tributaries. He first qualified as a REFFIS Instructor in 1993 at the age of only 18; one of the youngest instructors to ever be awarded the qualification. Andrew Ryan is a member of APGAI Ireland, and holds the FFF Masters and THCI which are the highest casting instruction qualifications in the world. Learn to Fly Fish the Easy Way! Beginners are most welcome and will learn to fly fish the easy way. At our school you will learn to set up your tackle correctly, cast competently, learn which flies to use and much more! With a little bit of luck you might even catch a fish! The initial tuition commences in our purpose built centre where you are given a presentation on tackle set up fishing techniques, knots, flies and much of the theory involved. Casting then begins on our casting ponds where the basics in casting fly are practiced. Our specially designed lakes are ideal for this as you have plenty of space to learn the basic casting stroke. You will have an excellent opportunity to observe and catch fish here. In the begginers class you will learn to overhead cast, roll cast, and shoot some line. Much of the casting is video recorded and played back so you can see faults. In the afternoon techniques on casting fish are taught ie dry fly, wet fly, nymph and you will be given the opportunity to practice your casting and hopefully catch a fish!

17 For anglers that wish to improve their casting skills we suggest a series of individual lessons that offer personal tuition with an Instructor. Before the lessons begin we can go through what elements you wish to improve and organize a lesson plan that will help you achieve these goals. We have a series of Improvers courses for those who wish to improve their fishing skills.. Salmon fishing is often perceived to be very difficult, but join one of our new courses and learn to Spey cast the easy way. These one day intensive courses are the ideal way of getting into salmon fishing and you will learn single and double spey, switch casts, how to spot salmon lies, and much more!.
