1 LOGBOOK AUGUST 2018 EAA602.org EAA 602 ADIRONDACK CHAPTER EVENTS AUGUST 28TH 6:30 EAA MEETING EARLY MEETING TIME 6:30 Dinner starts at 5:30 Sept 2 Breakfast Whitfords Photo provided by: Corey Drapala President s Hangar Patrick Morris EAA What's been going on: Sept 15 - Breakfast Cooperstown Klein Kill September Meeting to be held at C&R John Peck did a presentation at our July meeting on his experience at Airventure volunteering at the One Week Wonder project. The project took a kit plane and with the help of Airventure attendees completed the build in the one week of Airventure. I wasn t aware he was doing this and when the videos started popping up about activities going on at Airventure, I saw John! He ended up being in quite a few of the clips about the project. We learned from his presentation why. He spent a fair bit of time there and it sounded like a rewarding experience. Thank you John for sharing. On July 29th a few of us decided to take advantage of the forecast and give the Irondequoit Inn on Piseco Lake a try for breakfast. At last years Piseco breakfast at the airport a representative of the Irondequoit Inn spread some flyers around with information that they were open for breakfast daily and would transport pilots from the airport. It is only ¼ mile walk so that is an option also. Well as luck would have it the forecast was a little off and there were some low clouds around. Out of the four planes only one of us made it. I was riding with an acquaintance who flies a Searey. My first ride in a seaplane and what a neat experience and an awesome ride. We took a little different route then the others and didn t have an issue although it was evident that there were areas a little worse than others. In the

2 photo of the airport you can see the Irondequoit beach and in just to the left. Bill and Elaine Wade drove in and we hitched a ride to the Inn with them. The Inn is nicely done and the food was good. A definite thumbs up for a breakfast fly in location. On August 18th Shelli organized a dinner at Sam s in Johnstown. 24 members made it out for dinner and we had a nice relaxing night visiting and enjoying a nice meal. This was a great way to share our club friends with our family members who don t fly. I hope we do it more often. Doug Sterling put out the word that there was a breakfast at Island Bob s on August 19th and the weather was good. I heard of a few that made it in, but I didn t see any photos! Upcoming Events: August 28th meeting will be our last meeting of the season at Fulton County Airport before we transition back to the C&R in Galway. We will start food at 5:30 and have the meeting at 6:30 so that anyone flying in can get home before losing the light. Mark Keneston will likely be at our meeting to do a quick show and tell about being the CubCrafters Northeast representative. He will be bringing a CarbonCub on amphibious floats to look over. September 2 - Breakfast at Whitford Airport [B16], Weedsport, NY September 15 The last Cooperstown breakfast of the season and the fall Klein Kill breakfast. That s a tough call as they are both really good ones. The calendar of events are slowing down but that doesn t mean there are not some great new destinations out there. I am looking forward to a cooler cockpit and smoother air, but not the shorter days.

Photo provided by: Shelli Saupe As pilots and airplane owners, I am sure at one time or another we have all thought about the day when we had to sell our airplanes. for some of us it was a routine thing, as through our flying careers many airplanes have been bought and sold. I have always considered myself to have been very fortunate and blessed to have been lucky enough to have owned one airplane. As we have all experienced the process of getting our pilots license and then working around the aircraft rental crapshoot, the day that you bring your first airplane home is one you will never forget. Now there is no more waiting around on those beautiful mornings to go flying. With your own plane you can go any time you want and you just can t wait for the next time to go. I was very fortunate that through my experiences with EAA 602 there were a number of likeminded pilots who had the same enthusiasm and interest, that I was always lucky enough to have plenty of people to go flying with on any given weekend. Through all those times my faithful Champ stood me in good stead and helped me enjoy many adventures, fly to some great destinations and make many friends. I always thought that I was going to be one of those pilots whose family was going to have to pry the stick out of my hands before I gave up my airplane. Time and age and experience begin to change your perspective on things, and I started to look at my life a little differently. As crazy as this sounds, flying didn t hold that excitement experience that it did when I was a 60 hr. nugget who couldn t wait to get into the sky. So a thought that 10 years ago would never have crossed my mind, kept slowly creeping into my thought process and along with some recent events helped me decide it was time to sell N I am very happy with the person I sold it too. He has that I want to master this new airplane and fly it to lots of new and exciting places. He has an air strip of his own so I know she will be staying on the grass runways she was built for and now I hope she will be flown regularly and with some luck still be flying when she hits her 100 birthday in 38 years. It would be a hoot and an honor to have helped her make it to that milestone. I am not giving up flying, fortunately I have been offered some airplanes to fly and I plan on taking advantage of those offers. I am also not dropping my subscription to Trade A Plane, because who knows. Maybe someday the right deal will come along and the challenge and adventure of learning to master a new airplane will be just too much and I will once again be an aircraft owner. Airplane or no airplane I will always be a pilot. I will also continue to strive to help pass my experience and knowledge along to younger pilots and future aviators to pay it forward in hopes of them having the ability to enjoy aviation as much as I have enjoyed it.
