1 MLFT Newsletter Thursday, June 21 st :00 P.M. Tim Cammisa Tim Cammisa has been addicted to fly fishing and fly tying for about as long as anyone can remember. Although he and his wife Heather live in western Pennsylvania, fly fishing has taken him all over the country, with his fly fishing "home base" being in the State College area. Some of Tim's favorite waters include the mighty Delaware (where he has guided) and Missouri Rivers; though discovering small streams with wild trout still continues to excite him (his son Angelo especially likes this, as he gets to be the "fish spotter!"). Tim is one of the new generation of fly fishers who have taken to social media to promote and teach the sport. A fly fisherman and fly tier for nearly 30 years, Tim started making fly tying tutorials and posting them on YouTube, which permits users to upload their own homemade videos on just about any topic. Last month. Tim O Neill Light Spey for Local Waters Tim O Neill gave a very interesting presentation on fishing with two- handed Skagit Spey rods. He focused mainly on tackle required and less on technique. The method is intriguing. My brother, who lives in Oregon, has been urging me to get into spey fishing for many years. However, I never

2 thought that it had any use for eastern trout fishing. The rods and technique lack subtlety for most trout fishing. The two handed rods excel at casting heavy and/or large flies. Perhaps these rods might be well suited for bass and shad fishing in the Delaware or Schuylkill rivers. Anyway, I went out and bought a modest rod ($250.00) and plan to try it for bass this summer. I will let you know how my experiment works out. If it fails, you can expect to see the rod at our December auction. First Annual A Thousand and one Fishing hats contest! The Winners Great contest! It bought out the best and worst in the club. It was a lot of fun to see the creativity and love that we put into our fishing hats. Summer Upper Delaware camping trip July 27th, 28th and 29th at Pleasant Valley Campground This event was just added to our spring/summer schedule. This is just an opportunity to get together and enjoy some excellent fishing. The club will not be providing food at this trip Fall Fly tying classes are now Scheduled 2018 Fly tying classes

4 MONDAYS At Plymouth Township Parks & Recreation (2 classes) Fly Tying- Beginner class SIX WEEKS CLASS / Starting Monday October 1st 2018 This will be for people with no experience and or up to one year experience in fly tying. For the first night students do not have to bring in any fly tying materials or tools. The teacher will go over everything they will need on the first nights class. Mondays, 10/1 / 7:00 PM- 9:00 PM Price: $46 Res / $58 NR Fly Tying- Advanced class A Step Beyond Catskill Fly Patterns This will be a special class covering all Catskill dry fly patterns with matching wet fly s. This will be for people who have experience in fly tying and wanting to improve their skill level. This class will teach how and why I have improved these classic fly patterns over the years. And will also show why they are much more successful with these new improvements. The first night students need to bring there own tools and some materials for tying dry flies. Everyone can use the teacher s materials as needed for the first night. 5 Results of Coburn/Penns Creek trip Penns Creek is beautiful and totally different than the Poconos. It was very difficult to fish in the high water, but fish were biting. Some people caught fish, others did not. Center County is also beautiful Amish countryside. Very nice trip. Is Fly-fishing an Addiction? Folks, I just read a report in the N.Y. Times that the World Health Organization has declared that video games are addicting. Fly-fishing may be just like just like opioids. Video games are threat to the nation s health! Could it be that Fly Fishing is also an addiction? Some members of this club clearly appear to be addicted. For example, they leave their wife and children home to go and catch trout. So Sad! I have an idea. Perhaps we can get Fly Fishing declared an addiction and then the club can become a fly fishing treatment center and get government funding. We have lots of D s to offer help. 6 Directions to Club Meeting Site: Greater Plymouth Community Center 2910 Jolly Rd, Plymouth Meeting PA From Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276) Take Exit 333 (Norristown - old exit 25). At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Plymouth Road. At the light, turn right onto Germantown Pike West. Continue approximately one (1) mile, through four (4) traffic lights (not counting the left hand turn light at Sandy Hill Road). At the fifth light, turn right onto Jolly Road. The Community Center is on the right at 2910 Jolly Road. From Blue Route (I-476) Take exit for Germantown Pike West (Exit 20). Continue on Germantown Pike west for approximately one (1) mile, through five (5) traffic lights (not counting the left hand turn light at Sandy Hill Road). At the fifth light, turn right onto Jolly Road. The Community Center is on the right at 2910 Jolly Road. From Route 202 Follow Route 202 to Germantown Pike. Travel EAST on Germantown Pike, through five (5) traffic lights. At the next traffic light, approximately half a mile, turn left onto Jolly Road. The Com- munity Center is on the right at 2910 Jolly Road.
