Bring a plane, a dish, and your best friend. th Tuesday, October 7 : club meeting, 7:30 pm! Regular Scott Holsople with the ADDICTION! Scott Holsople loves to fly as we all know, and a few weeks ago he took this baby to the air, and boy does it ever perform! Now, understand, this is Ken Reesey's plane, but we all know that they often come to the field together, and Scott often flies Ken's planes, and this is what happend this particular night. Scott loves the way it flies, and it does 3-D with ease, plus everything else too, flat spins, edge, inverted, you name it, and this plane complies. Ken purchased this ARF from Precision Aerobatics.com, which is an Australian manufacturer of RC equipment. The Addiction Model, has a 50 inch wingspan, and weighs in at only 25 ounces with the 2200 Mh battery! The plane is made with

2 lots of carbon fiber and balsa and powered by a PA Thrust 20 outrunner motor and uses a 30 ESC. The plane comes as an ARF at $169 bucks, but that is just the beginning. The Addiction! After that, you have to shell out $126 bucks for the motor, 4 mini-servos at $29 a piece, add in the chrome spinner and prop and it tops out at over $450! You know what they say, big toys for big boys! But Ken says, "its just another airplane" in his collection in the basement where Scott lives when he has a fight with the wife! Well this plane really performs and has had great reviews online. Due to all the carbon fiber, the antenna has to go outside the plane to eliminate interference. I enjoyed watching Scott take it through its paces. Ken likes to fly it too of course, but Scott can take it to its limits! The amazing thing is when you go over to pick it up off the ground, you are amazed at how little it weighs. If you want a light weight electric plane that really performs, this Addiction might be the one for you! Above is a closeup of this thing hovering, which it does very well. I picked this picture of another version of the "Addiction" off the company website. As you can see, it comes in several different covering styles. Club Helps Cub Scouts... The Penns Woods Council held a Cub Scout Day Camp in New Germany on July 7 t h and our club was there to help out. Bruce Thomas, Neil Woffinden, Zane Kough, and Roger Luther each took a few of their aircraft to the Day Camp and gave a demonstration to over 100 Cub Scouts in two groups. We presented to the first group while the other group ate their lunch, and then the second group joined us for the same demo. Bruce talked about electric aircraft and how they work, and then flew his Dehavilin Beaver, which was a big hit with the boys. (and a few girls) Roger talked

3 about glow and gas engines and ran his Pulse XT engine for them. Neil showed the group how aa plane looks while under construction, and passed around an uncovered wing to let them feel how light balsa wood really is. Above Bruce Thomas explains Electric's The boys were given the chance to ask us questions, and of course all the normal ones were asked. How much do they cost, how high do they fly, how far away can you go, and of course, "Do you ever crash them?" Zane flying his heli for the boys. All in all it was a fun day for us, as well as to over 100 Cub Scouts and leaders. It was also a way for the club to give back to the community. Neil explaining how a wing works. The Day Camp had all sorts of activities for the boys, archery, crafts, etc. But several of the leaders said our presentation was definitely a highlight of the Camp! We will be no doubt asked to come back again next year. Bruce actually flew his Beaver, but we had to hand launch it, and due to the high grass, it flipped over upon landing, but that was expected. Zane then flew his helicopter to great reviews, the boys liked that as well. We didn't even get an oranage T-shirt! The boys really enjoyed the day, and all of us enjoyed talking with them too. Who knows, we may have an unknown RC Club member in the group who will join the Johnstown Club one day.

4 July Family Picnic... Sunday July 27 t h was our monthly family picnic, and this one was a big success! We had 5 folks come up from the Valley Brook RC Club, plus we had a very nice turn out of our club members. Quite a few of the ladies were present, and they always make the cook out special with all sorts of fancy dishes. Ken Shilling brought his gas corn cooker and boy, the fresh corn on the cob was superb! Bruce Thomas, Bonnie Luther and Mel Rumbaugh ready to take on the feast! The gang sitting down to a fine meal! The folks from Valley Brook were impressed with the turnout, since they have a much smaller club, they never can come up with a gang like we had that day. Everybody had a wonderful time, with no major mishaps. Thunder storms were expected and they did show up around 6 pm just after we completed the dinner. So, most of us packed up under some sprinkles, and about 6:15 it really came down. The picnic was a big success though, and everybody enjoyed the day. The folks who made the trek up from New Florence way included Connie and Duane Carney, who is also a member of our club, Marlene and Mel Rumbaugh, plus Ray McGarvey. They all were impressed with our weekly cookout and our flying field. Maybe next year we can plan the two visits again, us going down to Valley Brook, and them coming up to visit at our field. 5 The Rumbaugh's and Grecek's enjoy the day! Herb Ewald plays with Nicole's little one. Frank took a little kidding since our last newsletter featured him with his arm around Marlene. We tried to get him to pose with both women, but he was just too shy! It was a fun day for everyone who showed up, that's for sure. Don't miss the next Family Cookout, it's slated for Sunday, August 24 t h! The corn is a cookin! Many thanks to Ken Shilling for bringing his famous corn cooker out for the day. The local corn on the cob was fantastic! How some of us feel when we have trouble doing something on the computer...we call our grandkids who KNOW the answer!

6 Preparations are underway with test flights at the field, and last minute adjustments. Sunday, August 3 r d, Paul, Mark, and Ken make some last minute changes to Mark's plane, and upon take off, it looped and damaged the firewall and canopy, causing a quick trip back to the house for repairs. Saturday, August 2 n d Club Member Caleb Butler celebrated his 87 t h birthday, doing what he loves to do, fly model airplanes! Congratulations Caleb, keep'em flying! As you all know, Caleb is one of the few remaining founding club members. We appreciate all you have done for the club over the past 53 years. Happy Birthday! Toledo Trek Time Again.. Well the "Half A Boys" are at it again and the plans are complete for six of our club members to make the annual trek out to Toledo for the Old Timer event held there every August. Again making the trip are Ken Reesey, Scott Holsople, Ed Develin, Paul Yuhas, Mark Turzak, and Jim Patterson. Mark poses with his Old Timer entry. The gang left on Tuesday, August 5 t h!

Many thanks to club member Bill Rosage who made this nice plaque remembering those club members who have passed on. The number of former Johnstown RC Club members who have passed on is almost as many as the current membership! These individuals have taken their last flight, and it's nice to remember them at our field where they all spent so much time flying RC. The new tribute plaque at our field. August Club Meeting... Due to the Toledo Trek, plus the AAABA baseball tournament and vacations, we only had 6 club members attend the club meeting on Tuesday, August 5 t h. We new it would be less than normal, but at six, we think this was an all time low for our attendance. We had a round table discussion about planes, engines, building, covering, detailing, you name it, we covered it. Actually it was a great meeting and we all enjoyed just "talking shop". One of the topics covered was the need to pump out the port-a-john. Roger said he asked Herb to handle talking to Craig, the owner of Kamsik, the firm who handles this deed. We broke up about 9:20 after all the topics were discussed.
