Welcome to the lodge newsletter Welcome to the November issue of our lodge newsletter. The lodge is overjoyed to show you what we have been up to, and what we are working on for the future. The lodge has many fun events in the upcoming months. If you have any comments for the next newsletter or questions about any events mentioned in this article, please send it to Enjoy! Make sure to visit our lodge webpage for constant updates on the lodge's activities. Welcome New Members This year, over 600 deserving Scouts and Adults were elected to the Order of the Arrow and completed their Ordeal. We wish to welcome each new member and welcome them to our brotherhood. You have joined a brotherhood with a rich history of providing cheerful service to others. The Order s first purpose is to recognize those, like yourself, who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. As a member, you are entrusted with fulfilling the other three purposes of the Order: Promoting responsible outdoor adventure, developing leaders, and crystallizing the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others. You are a member of Totanhan Nakaha Lodge, of the Northern Star Council. The Order of the Arrow acts through the Lodge to express the values it has embodied since its inception in 1915: Brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service. As an organization grounded in outdoor adventure and cheerful service to others, exciting opportunities await your involvement. Throughout the year, we offer service opportunities, leadership training and fellowship events. Make sure you take advantage of these occasions. And most important, plan on attending your next conclave to seal your membership by becoming a Brotherhood Member in the OA. Page-1

Section Conclave 2017 Section Conclave 2018 An OA chapter is like a Scouting District, an OA Lodge like the Boy Scout Northern Star Council and the Section is many Lodges. The Lodges are from all around like Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Iowa, and Montana. There are over 5,000 Arrowmen in our Section which is Section C1-A. We had a conclave for our section. Section Conclave this year was very fun and exciting. We had 35 people from our lodge attend this year. We had training sessions during the morning and in the evening. We had games and other fun activities. Such as tomahawk throwing, pow-wow, gaga ball, and archery. On Saturday night we held elections for Section officers. Coming next fall!! Section Conclave This is a conclave for our Section, C1-A. There will be fun activities and leadership classes. In the morning we have a bunch of leadership and OA classes and in the afternoon we have activities such as. Section Conclave will be at Camp Wilderness next year. The dates are Sept. 7-9, Save that date! Do we have your correct Address? Our primary method of communication is through . Please make sure you have your current on file with us. If you want an individual address or your address changes, please send your OA ID, Name and new address to: TLNChapterReport@gmail.com Don t miss out on any announcements. Page-2

Founders Award Founders Award nominees have been picked and they will be announced at Winter Banquet. Introduced at the 1981 National Order of the Arrow Conference, the Founder's Award recognizes Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates that he or she personifies the spirit of selfless service, as advocated by founder E. Urner Goodman and cofounder Carroll A. Edson. The award is a handsome bronze medallion bearing the likenesses of E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson, with a wooden base and a brass plate suitable for engraving. Available for uniform wear is a gold-colored arrow suspended from a red ribbon. Lodges may petition the national Order of the Arrow committee to present between two and four awards annually, depending on the number of members in the lodge. If the lodge presents more than one award, at least one must be awarded to a youth under the age of 21 Lodge Leadership Development LLD is an event for all Lodge and Chapter officers. It's a great way to meet new people from our lodge. This year, LLD is at Christ the King Church in New Brighton Youth and Adult leaders make sure you sign up when you receive your registration. LLD is great for learning new leadership skills and it's also fun because we have games that go on during this event. All chapter officers should come to LLD because they teach you how to run you Chapter effectively. There are classes for both adults and youth. LLD will be held Friday December 1st through the 2nd Page-3

Vigil Conclave NOAC 2018 Vigil is the highest honor you can get within the Order of the Arrow. They have a special conclave for the Vigil candidates to satisfy the requirements for the ordeal. Vigil Conclave was held the weekend of the 23rd of August. We sashed 65 new Vigil honor members. We had more than 50 people there to help the candidates complete their Vigil. It was held at Stearns Scout Reservation. It was a very fun time. Vigil nominations for 2018 are due at the January LEC. Thank you to all Vigil members who helped with planning, staffing, meal preparation, and ceremonies. From the Editor I m Daniel Kimball from the Paul E. Wethern Chapter. I m in troop 509. I ve been in Scouting for as long as I can remember and I m a life scout. I like to do lots of close up magic so if you would like to see a card trick just ask me. I joined the Order of the Arrow just a couple years ago. I plan on getting all the information that I have out to all members and to handle all the social media the way I need to Daniel Kimball Vice Chief of Communications Mark your calendars for the National Order of the Arrow Convention! It will be at Indiana University, Bloomington. The approximate dates are from July 30th to August 4th. At NOAC, you meet Arrowmen from all around the country to learn leadership skills, play games, and support our lodge in competitions such as the ceremonies tournament (of which we are the reigning national champions!). You will stay in college dormitories and infest the sports stadiums and lecture halls. If you are interested in going, please contact Doug Farmer at farmer.doug@comcast.net. We have a total of 65 slots for our lodge so make sure you sign up fast. To sign up, visit Page-4

Fall Fellowship We just held our Fall Fellowship for It was very fun and you should go to the 2018 one. After everyone checked in we gathered in a circle and sang our song. We then started playing games. There were many board games and card game to play. If you didn t want to play those we had access to the gym. Later on in the night we got lots of pizza and played lodge ball. Some people were wearing costumes while playing lodge ball. Lots of new friends were made at this event. Thanks to Trailblazer for making and hosting this event. Winter Banquet Coming in January, our annual Winter Banquet. This year s banquet is being held t Base Camp by the MSP Airport on January 13 th from 5 to 8. At the Winter Banquet, we join in celebration of the accomplishments of our lodge this past year. Four Founders awards are awarded at the banquet. Youth participants are eligible for door prizes. Watch for an announcing the registration procedure. Page-5

OA High Adventure Are you aware of the various opportunities available to Arrowmen at the BSA s various high adventure bases? Every high adventure base has adventures for a family-friendly cost where you devote a bit of service for a life-changing adventure, available exclusively to Arrowmen. To lower the cost even further, the lodge has additional scholarships available. Go for a week at a discounted rate, build trails, provide service and in return, do a trek for your choosing for a second week. Two weeks of high adventure for less than the cost of a single trek. Apply now, spots go quickly. For more information, visit Lodge Officer or Adviser. For scholarship information, contact any Social Media Our Lodge s social media accounts have been busy keeping Arrowmen informed on our lodge s activities. Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Membership Dues Have you made sure to pay your dues this year? Every year, Arrowmen must pay their yearly dues of $15. This goes towards many things, such as scholarships, ceremonies, and awards for distinguished Arrowmen. You can pay your dues inperson by printing out & filling out a form, or online at Lodge flaps may only be worn by members of the lodge. You are not a member of the lodge without being current on dues. tnl-oa Page-6
